Louis Osteen returns to Pawleys
Yes, what a great little restaurant that was. And I'm very happy to learn Tom is still with us. Thanks very much. You might mention to him he's still warmly regarded in the old neighborhood..and very much missed. :)

Any Mexican Pastry stores in Columbia, Sc
They do indeed sell tres leches cakes in several sizes at the location you mention. Don't know the exact name either but to anyone interested in going it's very easy to find as all the shops are in a row and there aren't that many. It has a sign saying paneria, in large letters, above the store if memory serves.
caw caw creek pork
Emil is a great guy. I've been by his storage facility and chatted with him a few times. Very accomodating fellow.
Bacon and shoulder were my choices to start. Caw Caw Creek, what pork used to taste like.
List of things to eat/food experiences to have in South Carolina
Your limited exposure to SC Q is showing. There's some excellent vinegar based BBQ here. You just need to look for it. McCabe's in Manning. Scott's very near Hemingway. Moree's near Andrews. There's more around. But these are my favorites. As a matter of fact, Scott's was featured in the NY Times a year or so ago. Not that that means a helluva lot. But they were able to find some.

Columbia, SC - dinner suggestions post-football?
Terra. Just on the other side of the river. Close to the Vista. Valet parking. Not stuffy. Very good food. Nice wine list. Make reservations as soon as possible. Ask for Donna to serve you.

I wouldn't go anywhere near 5 Points after a game (or any weekend for that matter, all kids there).

The Gourmet Shoppe (http://thegourmetshop.net/) and Earth Fare are both quality recs. For another meat option you could try New York Butcher (tried to post their link but it wouldn't work, sry. I guess you can google it, New York Butcher, Columbia, SC). They are a franchise operation. A good idea is to get on their mailing list to see what the weekly specials are. They will be offering high quality fresh turkeys for the Thanksgiving and the holidays.

Heather's Artisan Bakery is a great place to shop for bread. Check out her site for hours, location and a link to Rosewood Market which may also be of interest to you.

Top Restaurants in Myrtle Beach, SC
We always hit Prosser's ay least once when we're down there. Enjoy Happy Hour at Salt Creek. Pints of Hoegaarden on draft for $2. I doubt there is a better value on the SC coast. Haven't been to Soho.

I really like Dockside, too. When I'm craving a nice piece of fried flounder this is my go-to spot. The other dishes I've sampled are very good as well (shrimp & grits, fried shrimp, rib-eye, chocolate cake, and others I can't currently recall). The view of the marsh is very nice and the service is some of the best I've experienced at the beach. They don't jam the tables right up next to each other either. I appreciate a little more each time I go.

Thai Siam (Arrington, VA off VA29) Questions
I've been to Thai Siam exactly one time. But I'll pass along what I know and what I _think_ I know.
Facts
The number I have for them is 434-263-8577. Got it off the to-go menu. The evening we were there, it was BUSY. The owner spent most of her time boxing to-go orders and tending the register. At times she seemed swamped and harried. (Think one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.) Sometimes the phone went unanswered. There were only two others working with her and that includes the cook (he was busier than she was).
All the dipping sauces we tried were the best I've ever eaten. So good as to stand apart from any others I've had. For those that don't want pork or red meat I'd suggest the duck. I did not love the calamari (but the sauce was exceptional). Get her dumplings.
Guesses
I wouldn't expect her to spend much time on the phone working out a dinner tailored to special wants. Now, after you go a few times and she gets to know you that might change but I wouldn't look for it up front.

I misread your original post. My sincere apologies to you.

You're right about Motor Supply at lunch. Good call. Speaking of Garibaldi's, I had some killer polenta fries there a while back. I'd go just for those.

She's only served us once but I'll be asking for her from now on.

I hope you get something decent to eat. If you make it to Terra ask for Donna to serve you (I am not related to her and derive no benefit whatsoever from this recommendatioin). She can be a lot of fun.

Gotcha. I know the places you mentioned and understand your opinion. I'll recommend Terra on Meeting St. one block west of the "New Orleans" restaurant. Locally sourced, seasonally adjusted and well prepared food. They have valet parking which may or may not appeal to your parents, IDK.
http://www.terrasc.com/
Motor Supply may work but the room is somewhat small, often crowded and acoustically "bright". Wouldn't be my first choice given your parameters. They have a valet as well.
Soltice in the Northeast section of town has some good food and is laid back with a pretty good wine selection.
http://www.solsticekitchen.com/
The Ristorante Divino is solid and quiet but in no way reaches the level of Italian available in Manhattan. They have a valet as well.
Your parents would not like Hunter Gatherer. It has a beer hall atmosphere and a decidedly young crowd, It's on the edge of USC campus.

Well, if we had an idea of where you've eaten and what you didn't like we might be able to more easily recommend a few places.

Not that it's any big deal but LC Poterie is stoneware.
Flavors of Atlanta!
Dio Seijuro, just wanted to say that I read your Duluth rec in another thread. It prompted me to head out that way a few weeks ago for dinner at Budnamu where we enjoyed the stuffed duck cooked in clay. The duck was quite good as were the numerious banchan offerings. My experience is detailed in another post on the South board. So, thanks so much for the heads-up on Duluth.
Flavors of Atlanta!
Yes, in Atlanta you need a car. And, if you are unfamiliar with getting around there, a decent GPS. I go anywhere and everywhere that strikes my fancy without ever looking at a map.
What variety of BBQ is the really good BBQ found all over Florida? What's it called? (Falling off bone, vinegary sauce etc.)
My dear old dad, born and bred in Newberry, FL, once told me that when he was a kid BBQ meant goat. That was Depression Era. I had some as a kid during the '60s when I was down that way. It was strong tasting but tender and not without a certain appeal. I hadn had that particular flavor before nor since.
Sweetzels Spiced Wafers in Florida?
According to the Sweetzels site Wal-Mart, among others, carries them.
