Where is the best Mexican in Toronto? Does any one know if their daily specials (like the fajitas mentioned above) are only during lunch or are they all day? |

I saw on twitter last night that the host of "You Gotta Eat Here" was thanking Nick Hodge of Ice House for having him. He tried the lobster burrito. Couldn't tell if they had just filmed or if the episode had just aired. Anyone know? |

How far in advance can I slice sweet potatoes for frying sweet potato chips? I boiled cubed sweet potatoes last week and left them for out for 1-2 hours and when I came back to them they were grayish-brown. |

Had the pulled pork burger and fried macaroni balls on Thursday. The fried mac and cheese was ok, the pulled pork however, was dry and even with a whole lot of sauce, wasn't very enjoyable and I ended up only eating about a third. This was the first time I went and will be my last. |

Wow lots of great replies! Thanks for everyone's advice. I'm looking forward to trying everyone's recommendations. We will be arriving tonight, we will try swing by Banh mi Boys for take-out since it's so close to where we are staying. |

Hello Chowhounders! I am trying to recreate the Papas G78 from Grumman at home. Does anyone have any idea on what the put on it? |

Montreal hounds coming to Toronto next week for a couple months. We are two students who will be working in Toronto for the summer. I've been perusing this board for a couple weeks now and feel so overwhelmed with all the possibilities. We will be staying on Bay and Gerrard and will have access to a kitchen. Kensington market sounds very exciting and I will hopefully go often to pick up stuff for dinner. Is there another market around that I also should be looking into? We usually spend our money on brunch as it let's us enjoy restaurants we couldn't afford for dinner service. I would love a couple high end brunch ideas (but under 80$ for two) and a couple lower end recommendations. We are also looking for less expensive (under 35$ for two) places where we can pick up dinner and bring back to the apartment to eat. We love dives, diners and homemade comfort food. We are also looking for one nice celebratory dinner at a more upscale place that won't break the bank (under 150$ for two). Some restaurants in Montreal offer a special after 9 or 10pm where the menu is much cheaper, is this also available in Toronto? Will we be able to find food trucks in our neighbourhood? Are there any we should go out of the way to try? We have no mexican options back home so we are looking forward to trying some over here. Lastly, we are looking for a bakery that has good desserts and a fun ice cream shop. We won't have a car, but are use to taking public transportation. A big thank you in advance! |

Wasn't Dominion Square renovated in 2009-2010? If OliverB has only be gone for a year it's not that new to him. Although Park is good, I bet OliverB can find better in Cali. My "not so new but new to me restaurant" is Osteria Venti. You cannot beat their lunch special at 18$ for two courses (23$ for three). |

That's the best news I heard today! I can't wait. |

Funny I have a huge distaste for rock music in restaurants but I can't remember ever hearing loud obnoxious music during my 3-4 visits at Ice House. |

Announcing Chowhound's Newest Category: Bananas When I logged on, I just saw posts and posts of bananas and was so confused. Took me awhile to get in on the joke :/ |

Café Plume: Since when it is OK to ask a customer to leave before they finish their food? I tend to agree with you. If I spent 7.25$ on a coffee and pastry and was ask if I wanted to take it to go after 75 minutes I might be offended. I can understand other people's positions on this but when you get into the coffee shop business, and you offer a place where people can work from their laptop, you should have clear rules posted about it. I tend to me a very slow eater and I can sip my latte for over an hour easily, and if I was asked to pack up and go, I wouldn't be happy about it. |

Indie Coffee Passport Coming to Montreal Concept is 18 coffee shops, 22$, 7 months Passports are good from April 1st - October 31st. Each shop offers a list of 5 drinks to choose from. You're only able to go to each coffee shop once, but at 22$ it still sounds like a pretty good deal even if you only manage to go visit half of them. http://www.indiecoffeepassport.com/montreal/en/index.html |

San Francisco Style Burritos in Montreal Tried a carnitas burrito from there last week. It was too fatty for my taste. The meat was cubed, not pulled and some pieces were almost entirely fat. The chips and different salsas were extremely good! Especially the spicy green one. I'll have to say Cafe Cantina still has Montréal's best burrito (even though they often run out of ingredients). |

Bizarre but true: Recommend MTL chain restaurants for visiting US relatives? My parents actually had their wedding reception at Chalet BBQ back in the 70s, so in my family, it has always been a fun place to celebrate, regardless of age. |

If their bacon burger is 8.50$, I doubt you'd be able to add an order of fries and have it be under 10$. Burger de Ville however charges 6.50$ for their bacon burger, making the meal under 10$ and being a great value that I get regularly. |

Smile...you're on camera in our dining room! I know I'm replying to a very old post, but I've lived in Montreal my entire life and have never heard of a privacy law in Canada where you must be "forewarned of the presence of cameras". Correct me if I'm wrong. |

What are your thoughts of this restaurant corkage fee policy? "When we looked at the menu, we saw exactly what we expected to see: there is a $20 corkage fee per bottle of wine." |
|

What's the cross street, Monkland? I wasn't able to find anything online about them. No facebook, twitter that I could see. Burger de Ville is a favorite of mine, but I'm always ready to try something new that's nearby. 8.50$ for a bacon-burger sounds a bit high though. |

Sounds exciting! Anyone know the expected opening date? |

Real Neapolitan pizza margherita in Montreal ? I've yet to find a great margherita in Montreal. |

I've also seen 10% off pick up orders. Makes it worth it. |

Montreal Restaurant Help needed I second downtown McKibbins. It's my go-to Irish pub. Montreal Jazzfest is June 28th - July 7th and our Just for Laughs Festival is July 10th - July 28th check the listings if you're planning on coming during any of these dates, there should be lots to see and some fun food trucks to try out. |

Hamburgers are now a special order item at Wendy's I always prefer my burger to have cheese. |

20 foods everyone should know how to cook I'm a very slow eater and delys77 is correct, any good poutine should not be soggy, even if you take a long time to eat it. When we bring poutine home for dinner, I usually put it in the oven for a couple minutes to reheat it and the fries usually stay quite crisp. |

One meal in Montreal based on this list of criteria? Au Pied du Cochon could fit the bill. |

Anyone been to Blackstrap recently? Initially I was very excited to try it but after reading reviews about them always being out of different things and that the pork is too dry, I haven't made much of an effort to make my way there. I'm looking to pick up some BBQ for dinner tonight. What are the chances they will be sold out of ribs and brisket by 7pm? I usually like Dinette Triple Crown, but want to try some place new. I live near Boucan, is that a good option? |

Thanks for the tip Ruthie! I didn't know I could buy their dough. |

New mexican place opening on boul St Jean? From my experience Chipotle is quite decent. And I'd love to have one nearby. |
