Glendale deposition

If Carousel is the one across from a Cuban bakery I was there many years ago. Is it? I remember having some kind of liver dish that was good. I have never been to Elena's or Raffi's

Glendale deposition

Several years ago we were visiting LA and a van crossed a double yellow to get in the car pool lane almost taking us out. So now we get to go to a deposition for the insurance claim. O Joy! Insert sarcasm

Good part is we will have some time for dinner in Glendale and as I love Middle Eastern food I'm in the right part of town. Hubby and I are currently avoiding grains (health issues) we would like a recommend based on the apps, meats and side veggie dishes of some of the fav places like Shamshiri, Carousel, Elena's or others

Thanks and
Happy Eating

Chef Peter DeRuvo Leaves Cuoco Pazzo

OK reporting back. We tried the duck and it was delish. Instead of the steak we had pork shank with heirloom beans. i didn't ask what kind of beans guess i was thinking a nice creamy cannellini turned out to be cici which was good but didn't have that creamy profile I was looking for. My bad for not asking. Probably would have enjoyed the steak more. We also had the crispy ribs for an app. That was good too. We enjoyed the bread with dipping oil and fresh herbs. All in all a nice dinner. We did not enjoy dessert. maybe we ordered the wrong thing. Brownie with pistachio gelato. The brownie was soso and the gelato was well really yech. It had a grainy texture and no real pistachio flavor. So while I would go back for the duck which to me was the star of the meal I would pass on the sweets BTW the service was outstanding sorry its been a few weeks and I don't remember his name but he had a shaved head and great bod. LOL my dh told me to ad the bod comment

Looking for humanely raised Guanciale in LA Area. .

I finally ordered from LaQuercia and my porky goodness will be here today. They were very helpful and have a great web site that shows the farmers they use and pictures of very happy pigs. Got my Mozza cookbook my guanciale now all I need are some chicken livers and I'm all set for chicken liver toast
Thanks again for this recommendation

Chef Peter DeRuvo Leaves Cuoco Pazzo

I would welcome some thoughts on when a chef leaves. We live about 2 1/2 hours from Scottsdale and only come to the city several times a year. We had plans to come this Thursday and have dinner here. Would it be better to let the dust settle. How big of an effect does the chef leaving have on a new place like this? Thanks for your opinions on this subject.

I'm also going to order some of the proscuitto fat. I've never heard of this. Any ideas how best to use this. Plus they have lardo. I've heard of this but have never had the opp to try it. I have seen Bourdain wax poetically about it on his shows.
The delivery is about 30 bucks to AZ. so I figure I will try a few differant things. The more I order makes it a better deal on postage. Last trip to LA I brought back so many goodies from the farmers market we barely had room for the dogs and we have a CRV

Human Body Exhibit

just a quick report back. We ended up having lunch at Teeter house. We tried 4 items
Warm Duck Salad...perfectly cooked duck breast with charred lettuce and carmelized onions. The lettuce was an unexpected delight with the char giving a pleasant bitter contrast to the almost creamy duck and onions
Fried Pork Tenderloin.. Panko coated for an awesome crispy crust ,just the right amount of wasabi on some yummy brioche type bread. This was good but I would have probably chosen the pork belly in hindsite.
Fried Soft Shell Crab... I thought this would be my fav but probaby too much fried stuff after the pork. So my bad not the dish
Okonomiyaki....This dish and the duck were my fav of the day. DH says we need to learn how to make this dish. Shrimp, cabbage and I don't know all what in this creamy omelet type thang. Nice surprize of pickled ginger with bonito flakes on top that were waving in the A/C making this little bundle of tastyness look alive
I also happen to be a tea lover and the ice tea is perfection here. I was having a hard time choosing between 2 so our lovely waitress brought me both
Guess Nobuo can't do Chefs Choice right now due to bans on fish from Japan

After the exhibit we went to Al-Hana for take home food then to Ranch market for some more goodies to take home. A great chowhound day THANKS

That sounds good. I might be leaning towards Chinese as I think my friend would like that over Thai. I've been to Diamonds before but I don't think that is anywhere in the vicinity.

Asian lunch in Scottsdale

My friend and I will be visiting the Scottsdale Fashion Square on Wed. and would like a recommendation for lunch. Don't know the area but have a GPS and would be willing to travel 10 to 20 miles or more for a chow worthy rec. She mentioned she doesn't like sushi but I think it's just the raw stuff that she"s not to sure about:O)

Thanks

new college student in Santa Clarita???

just looked at Mike's reviews and was reminded of a place I tried last time I was out there Taco Y Burritos El Pato. 2 brothers own this place and the meats are cooked outside on a wood grill. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner. Everything is in the 5 to 8 $ range. As Mike said they put whole beans on the tacos which was kind of strange but they also have grilled onions and jalapenoes on there too which were mighty tasty. Funny I found the menu in my suitcase this morning from when I was out there in April. They are located at 22950 Lyons Ave Newhall 661-254-2585

I thought so but I wasn't sure ;O)

I've read alot of your reviews and if this is your favorite I'm down with that. The pudding dish with rose syrup sounds divine. Any ideas on where to find a mold to make mamoul cookies???

Plus I may be able to squeeze in a visit to Surfas. Someone suggested this last time I was in town. I bought a bottle of elderflower syrup and then realized I couldn't bring it on the plane. This time I'm driving

HELP with yummy fried middle eastern goodness

I've been searching the boards and trying to decide on which middle eastern place I'd like to chow at while I'm in town for a visit. The concept at Hummus Bar and Grille or Itzik"s sounds good and while I like the idea of all the salads and a kabob what I really love are things like (and you'll have to excuse me but I don't know the names) fried or baked turnovers stuffed with meat or little footballs of fried goodness with meat stuffed in the middle. MMMM and real mint tea and desserts with flower waters would be awesome. Have my GPS so can pretty much drive anywhere in LA
Also would like to find a market where I could buy a mold to make mamoul sp?? cookies

Thanks Hounds
