Katsura - Westin Prince Hotel

Yes, I absolutely agree.

The teppananyi is another option for diners - not my bag - but I can see the appeal.

LOL. You gave me a side stitch from laughing so hard. That's why I passed up on the milk this week. But I might pick it up for dessert applications this week.

Another thought would be to cut it with some 2%...if you wanted to go the cereal route.

LOL. I saw the maple milk and only thought about putting it in my cereal. Maple custard is a fantastic idea.

I didn't see it at the Warden Costco and I looked high and low yesterday. I guess I'll have to check out another location.

'Shiso Tree JAPANESE Cafe' - Still Great ITALIAN Pasta and more.....!!

Marea is one of my favourite restaurants and the seafood brodetto di pesce is truly delicious. If it is that good, I am rushing out there. I love Shiso Tree.

corn tortillas

hmmm - it looks like they could have been delisted. I was there today and I scoured that section by the pizza dough / misc. refrigerated stuff at NF and I didn't even see labels. :(

Showed up to Costco todate (Warden location) and sadly the Stirling is gone. Wonder if it will come back.

At the Scarborough location, I noted a delicious new product in the frozen section - Select Signatures Light English Muffin Sandwiches (basically a turkey "sausage mcmuffin" with egg whites) 12 per pack about $14.99 (expensive but cheaper than starbucks or mcdonalds) 200 calories.

Had one for breakfast today - the English muffin was slightly smaller than I expected but easily heated from frozen and very decent taste prompting me to want to eat more. :) Good for morning rush to work.

Also the chicken cilantro wontons also located in the freezer section are back after being absent for at least a year.

Noted the Barkthins (dark chocolate with pumpkin seeds and sea salt) are not available any more and the bellavitano cheese. Delisted or seasonal?

Rice cookers - Tiger or Zojirushi?

I guess this post was bumped after almost 7 years! My national is still holding on - but when cooking brown rice, bubbles all over the side. (making a case for my zojirushi!)

Food you can't find in Toronto.

Grateful for what our city has to offer, but if I could ask for one small thing, it would be chicken apple breakfast sausage.

In the US, it seems every grocery store has a multitude of choices for this amazing breakfast meat. For those of us who don't like pork (yes, there are a few of us) - it is amazing to have several chicken apple sausages to choose from (links / rounds / different brands / etc.) :)

Went to the Warden location two days ago and there were no barkthins? Have these been delisted? I hope not. They were part of my January de-tox plan. :)

On another note - found the Martin's Crispy Apple Chips for $6.99 in the chip aisle - dehydrated apple chips. so satisfyingly crunchy and delicious. Only one ingredient - apples.

Dinner with a large group

Beer bistro has a party room in the back. I've rented out a couple of times and we found it was a great place for get togethers. Service is very good and I found the menu options were pretty good.

Suggestions for a restaurant wedding

I have been to weddings at Canoe, La Maquette and Archeo and Academy for Spherical Arts. Weddings were not conventional and very similar to what you envision. I am pretty sure that Archeo, and Academy drinks were just billed. I might recommend that you also think about places you really like and see if you can do a buy out. I know when we were getting married we had considered Auberge du Pommier as a potential venue so this is not uncommon. Good luck! Report back!

Nigiriya Sushi-to-go: A brief first review

I agree. I have been going to Zen at least 5+ years and I can't imagine Jackie saying anything that was remotely meant as a slight.

Perhaps he meant to guide you to preserve the taste versus adding too much, ... he's a nice guy and very respectful of his customers. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt as well.

I prefer the whites generally unless the yolk is runny and oozy and there is buttered toast close by. Num num

Unfortunately, I don't know. I don't recall the specific details except for the "house aged" bit. :)

Shiso Tree Cafe - An interesting 'Pasta' find inside J-Town!

Just bumping this thread...

Had dinner here tonight with the family and it was very nice! We arrived just around 6pm on a Saturday night, and there were only 2 tables occupied. By the time we left, there were several groups waiting for a seat. This place is not hurting for business.

We started with the okinomiyaki fries and smoke salmon appetizer followed by the shrimp okinomiyaki and unagi don pasta. The service was attentive and pleasant. The food was delicious. Especially the mains - the shrimp pasta was savoury with a hint of sweetness, the unagi was creamy, and bursting with flavour. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. We shared a black sesame crème brule. Very rich and nutty. Quite delicious and memorable.

Definitely will be back. Quality food, reasonable prices, prompt service.

Kickin' it old school - dinner at Joe's Seafood Steak and Stone Crab

It's not my usual kind of place but my colleagues selected Joe's for dinner and I thought I would share my impressions of this veritable institution.

Not far from the Loop, my office colleagues and I had a fantastic dinner at Joe's this week. Surprisingly hoppin' on a Wednesday night, it didn't take long for us to be seated at our table once all members of our party arrived.

The atmosphere is buzzy and lively with a mix of clientele. Surprisingly quite a few dates, but for the most part, just business dinners and tourists. It is a casual, semi-formal dress kind of place.

I had the crab cake dinner - fat lumps of crab meat gently bound together with rich mayo and a dusting of bread crumbs - just enough to lend a crisp crust to the cake. It was divine. We shared side dishes of Lyonnaise potatoes and roasted corn. My colleagues had the rib eye and a fisherman's platter (which had an assortment of fresh seafood - scallops, haddock, etc.) My colleague thought the rib eye was amongst the best he ever had. The bite I had was meltingly memorable - juicy, flavourful and the right amount of chew. The seafood platter had rave reviews. She had it grilled and found it was a great alternative to the steaks.

The service at Joe's - phenom. Old school waiters take care of your every need, available when you need them but invisible otherwise. Water glasses were always magically full. Service was as if we were the only ones in the restaurant - it was attentive and detailed.

Joe's is not a bad meal if you are looking for some high quality steak or seafood. There is nothing creative or new here. This is pure old school - fantastic food with superb service.

Bullied for tip at Best Little Restaurant Chinese in CT [Moved from Boston board]

You put that so well.

If I was held to those standards, I might owe money at the end of the week. :) I have a job where people are rarely happy with me.

Bullied for tip at Best Little Restaurant Chinese in CT [Moved from Boston board]

I am absolutely with you. It does vary wildly. It is unfortunate that for us as the customer, we are expected / required to supplement someone's income... Instead of a tip providing a little "extra" for exceptional service, it is expected for crappy or mediocre. It is no longer serves as an incentive for superior customer service.

Some of Chicago's best restaurant

I ate at Topolo several years back and I found it sublime. Honestly, it ignited my interest and love of Mexican food. Fantastic meal, excellent service. I highly recommend.
