Tomatillo Bumper Crop - Free tomatillo

I just spent a good chunk of this morning peeling off the papery wrappers to my tomatillos and I realized I have way more than I need. I've got a shopping bag full up for grabs.

email me at hungrygal@rogers.com if you'd like them.

Located in the north-east part of the city - off of the DVP south of the 401.

The Costco Thread - Ontario - 2014 - July to September

bought the chia coconut water popicles this week. umm, different but not bad and half decent trade-off. It's feels healthy so I can live with it but my kids didn't like the chia seeds at all. (But I really wanted the Kirkland premium ice cream...)

I bought a small package of via stevia before committing to the Costco size. Too metallic for my liking. I wished I had bought the Kirkland splenda. :(

Anatolian's Turkish Halal Restaurant - WOW!

Everyone looking for Turkish food eat here! We visited last week for lunch and the place was empty. Three different groups of people came and left without staying. I think people were expecting something quick like bamiyan kabob. There isn't a lunch menu and with the linen on the tables, you kind of feel like it's a bit too fiddly. (Of course, we went during Ramadan so maybe it will be busier now)

We ordered the manti and the lamb kabob dinner. The manti was amazing!! so delicious. garlicky and creamy and very generous. My husband ordered the lamb kabob - delicious, generous and meaty. Also we ordered the zucchini pancake - very dilly and crispy. We definitely will be back but we hope it gets busier because its such a good option. (Though I would ask them to consider a cheaper lunch menu with smaller portions to meet the needs of the neighborhood!!) :)

Where to buy great fresh fish in Boothbay Harbor?

If you're thinking about "cooked" fish - I can definitely recommend the fish fry (haddock) form Trevett's Country Store, Bet's Fish Fry - both equally delicious.

Boothbay Harbor in June (and Rt. 1 in between)

Okay - back from 11 days in BBH... other places we hit...

Trevett Country Store for fried fish and lobster rolls. Better service than I recalled last year. Fish was cooked with a fantastically crisp coating - thing of beauty. Lobster roll was meaty but made with mayo. Husband raved about it.

Bet's Fish Fry - amazing - large portion, beautifully cooked. ate there twice - the fries the 2nd time were fried until they were dry as a bone. Fish was still fantastic. Two full large fillets (basically the whole fish) in their serving.

Andrews' Harborside - still highly reliable. Crab cakes were abit gummy, but boasts 1/4 pound of crab. It's a large, thick cake. Still tasty though. Clam chowder is delicious with a hint of garlic.

Ebb Tide - a BBH institution - the chowders (haddock / clam) are bland and overcooked, but everything else is quite serviceable. The waitresses are superb and efficient and desserts are yummy. Also - the price is right.

Baker's Way - a great reasonably priced breakfast - apple fritters are amazing and huge!

Hope you have a great time in BBH.

Eating our way through this part of Maine now.... So far I can confirm
Lobster dock - tried and true. Annual guilty pleasure for deep fried seafood. Crab cakes are okay, bit too fancy but. I guess that's due to the Throwdown thing. People probably order expecting the recreated dish.
Darmariscotta Grill - still excellent and gracious. (Will have to try King eider and Newcastle publick another time)
new to. BBh - by the parking lot by the water is Shannon's unshelled. Just lobster rolls and hot dogs. Really good and simply prepared. Good alternative to Red's (smaller portion which is price adjusted) but no line up, yet! I will be hitting that place again!
Boathouse Bistro - amazing view of the harbor! Really nice view and delicious food. The steamers were fantastic. Friend had burrata (burrata!) and said it was amazing. They have a happy hour, too.

glidden point oysters - I can confirm, fantastic!

That's it for now... Will post again as we eat!

Boothbay Harbor in June (and Rt. 1 in between)

I hope this isn't too late... we are headed to BBH - this is our fourth year - I will repost if anything has dramatically changed.

Bakers Way - my husband really liked the lunch menu there - Vietnamese / Thai - it's a nice break from the usual seafood fare
Downeast Ice Cream - oh so good
Kaler's - nothing special / not terrible but not great
Lobster Dock - beautifully done deep fried seafood and boiled lobsters.
Pemaquid Co-op - it's okay = we have kids and found that Shaw's which is on a working dock is abit more appealing for the kiddos.
Trevett Country Store - nice lobster rolls, surly service

Other options we like:
Damariscotta Grill - delicious, well prepared
Glidden Point oysters - we usually stop in for several dozen
Dunton's Doghouse - great / inexpensive roadside lunch
Andrew's harborside - probably our favourite place -delicious, my favourite crab cake and clam chowder
Red's - I know you don't want to stop there - it is a tourist attraction but also an institution - best lobster rolls hands downs.

TORONTO - WE NEED TURKISH FOOD

I passed by yesterday on my way to Target... wondering if they were any good and then hoping they have manti. Looks like they do... Maybe I will request dinner there for Mother's Day! :)

The Costco Thread - Ontario - 2014 - April to June

I had the same question - I have not seen them in either the Warden or Vaughan location in over three weeks.

Crazy Tomato Trattoria to become Fratelli Village Pizzeria

Clearly. The service was fantastic and I felt like they catered enough to the kiddies to keep us away from Jack Astors... at least for now. :)

I believe it was priced at 3.49 which I took as a here to stay price. But I am totally paranoid about de-listing. Costco is so mean by giving me things I love and them taking them away (I am talking about the marcona almonds, barkthins, calvin klein jeggings :), bellavitano cheese, Fleur de sel, previous version of Costco pizza - off the top of my head...

Crazy Tomato Trattoria to become Fratelli Village Pizzeria

Finally made it to Fratelli's this Saturday. We could never get to the Scarborough location, so the EY location was super convenient. We arrived at 5pm when they open and it was soon fairly packed within the hour. The food was delicious - kids and husband had the pizzas and I had the penne alla vodka. The pizza is not like Queen Margeurita or LIbretto, with a slightly thicker crust. The service is very friendly and speedy. They were great with the kids and you could probably be in and out of there within an hour. Felt like they had a legion of regulars. Definitely will be back. Kids loved it and price is right.

Sterling butter is back. I don't know if it was discontinued chain wide but was at the Vaughan location this week (normally we shop at Warden). I stocked up - just in case. :)

Katsura - Westin Prince Hotel

Yes, I absolutely agree.

The teppananyi is another option for diners - not my bag - but I can see the appeal.

LOL. You gave me a side stitch from laughing so hard. That's why I passed up on the milk this week. But I might pick it up for dessert applications this week.

Another thought would be to cut it with some 2%...if you wanted to go the cereal route.

hmmm - it looks like they could have been delisted. I was there today and I scoured that section by the pizza dough / misc. refrigerated stuff at NF and I didn't even see labels. :(

Terra Delyssa Organic Tunisian Extra Virgin Olive Oil - New at Costco

This is being sold at my local Valumart (underhill location) it is $2.50 for a bottle (I think it was 500ml) - not organic. I saw it today. I didn't buy any but I am willing to take a flyer.

The Costco Thread (Ontario - 2014 - part 1)

At the Scarborough location, I noted a delicious new product in the frozen section - Select Signatures Light English Muffin Sandwiches (basically a turkey "sausage mcmuffin" with egg whites) 12 per pack about $14.99 (expensive but cheaper than starbucks or mcdonalds) 200 calories.

Had one for breakfast today - the English muffin was slightly smaller than I expected but easily heated from frozen and very decent taste prompting me to want to eat more. :) Good for morning rush to work.

Also the chicken cilantro wontons also located in the freezer section are back after being absent for at least a year.

Noted the Barkthins (dark chocolate with pumpkin seeds and sea salt) are not available any more and the bellavitano cheese. Delisted or seasonal?
