Very good food, beautiful presentation
Thai Place in Downtown Haverhill
3 of us went to lunch on Monday..only customers in there..but it was a lousy snowy day.
We all liked our meals very much. Yellow Panang Curry with chicken was delicous, Seafood Madness and Chicken Garlic all passed the taste test. Food was fresh and came out very hot. We did not care for the pad thai..it was "sweet" like it had brown sugar in it. Would definitely go back again.
George's (new location) in Haverhill????
I don't think we'll go back...like the coziness of Keon's and Bistro 45 and Pow Wow River Grill much better.
Thai Place in Downtown Haverhill
Thanks Scuba Steve..I was hoping you would chime in.
We are heading there for lunch...will report back later!
George's (new location) in Haverhill????
We went the other night for Hubby's birthday. Food was excellent..I had the swordfish and ordered it with Shitake Mushroom Risotto which they charged a $4 upcharge..which was fine. It was delicious and gave a large portion of both fish and risotto. My husband had the steak which was cooked perfectly. Bread/Oil was good, service was adequate. Nice presentation of the meals also..served on square plates.
However, we did not care for the atmosphere in there. It's big and open and loud. Voices from other tables echo. We were sitting near the wall on the side and it was freezing cold. I ate with winter my jacket on!! My long time Haverhill resident neighbor told me it was the Pentucket Bank years old...yah..It feels like you are eating in the lobby of a bank!! I think they could put some partitions up and make it a little cozier in there.
Sat Lunch Hudson/Marlboro/Bolton area....
Was planning outdoor picnic for college friends get together, but looks like the weather won't be cooperating for that..
Any suggestions for a nice lunch place that we can have a leisurely meal, won't be rushed out and can have some good chow.?? Prefer non-ethnic type place as we have some plain jane eaters in the bunch.
Centro Lowell
Went there again last week. Ordered off bar menu.Always great food and selection...marscapone/corn risotto was to die for...one of the best risottos Ive ever had. Had Nicoise salad with salmon..delicious..all fresh local veggies. Nice friendly service at the bar. Ive been several times and haven't been disappointed yet.
Vinnie's at Night
I was there Saturday as well and everything was great.Have never been dissappointed. Prices are very reasonable compared to other italian restaurants. We had Party of 4..we had 1 antipasto appetizer which was plenty for all of us, meals, bottle of wine and several beers and it was $75 a couple which included the tax and tip..and we all took home leftovers!!. I had the beef braciole over the homemade pasta ..it's delicious.Service is always good. Everyone should know it's a no frills place...so people shouldn't be complaining about the lack of ambience.
We'll be back again soon!
Symphony Hall Area-Good Eats?
Going to Pops on Wednesday night.
Any recommendations within walking distance of symphony hall for quick bite to eat??
Will only have about an hour and half before the show. Prefer not too pricey or fancy.
Centro Lowell
Went to Centro for this weekend....2nd time I have been there It was excellent and such a fun place also.We didn't have full meals..My friend and 1 split 1/2 portion Antipasto and Crab/Shrimp nachos..both delicious and was plenty for both of us. We didn't finish either. Everything served looked fabulous. Home made potato chips served at the bar are to die for. A real gem in Lowell. I hope it lasts.
2 New Places in Haverhill- ? Anyone tried them
Thanks..will try soon.
Any new items on the menu?
2 New Places in Haverhill- ? Anyone tried them
I agree w. Treb
Evenfall and Glory are both overpriced, over-rated and underwhelming. ..especially Glory. I had salmon there that was the same as the 99 Restaurant serves except it was on top of 2 butternut Ravioli( yes, that's right 2!!) Both have beautiful atmosphere and interior decorations but it just doesn't have the whole package when your paying those prices. Evenfall has a wonderful chef, Scott Pelletier, who should just open his own restaurant.
Will try Keon's again soon..when the new chef is up and running!!
Clearwater /Sarasota recommendations
Coming down for 2 nights in Clearwater(Sandpearl resort) and 2 nights in Sarasota(Lido Beach area) April. We've never been to this area.
Any places to "not miss"...We like outside seating and dining..good quality food but not too upscale. No chain restaurants for us!!
Like all types of foods..my husband loves raw bars.

Centro Lowell
Tried Centro last night before going to the Trisha Yearwood concert at Lowell Aud.
First thing ..It's one of the few places downtown that are open on Sunday!!
It was a little busy and slow service at first but only because everyone arrived at the same time. We sat at the bar..very friendly atmosphere and patrons. The place is beautifully decorated..art deco-ish!! The martini's were good but a little small for 9.50 each.I would stick with wine or beer. My friend and I both had salads- I had endive w/goat cheese and apples and she had marinated flank steak over greens. Both were very good. We split the mac w/ 5 cheeses appetizer- which was superb!! The ultimate comfort food on a cold night. We skipped dessert so I can comment on that. Overall, nice experience..will be going back again to try some other things on the menu. The antipasto appetizer platter looked wonderful as well as the shrimp fritters. I did not see any of the actual dinner menu items but I would assume they would be good based on what we ate and saw at the bar. Finally, another CHOWHOUND worthy choice in Lowell.!!
2 New Places in Haverhill- ? Anyone tried them
Have been to Keons several times..like it..but get a little bored with the limited menu. Maybe the new chef with spark it up. Not a big fan of Essex Street Grill....caters to drinking crowd and food is nothing special. Krugers is good for lunch..but I find it very crowded at night..and lots of screaming kids drinking out of sippy cups. Like Olivia's. The food/service is good...although we sat in the back and got smoked out from the kitchen...they need better ventilation back there. Georges doesn't interest me...looks boring. We do like Bistro 45..nice atmosphere, good food, friendly bartenders and patrons.
2 New Places in Haverhill- ? Anyone tried them
Im with you...kind of "scared" to try either. Alforno still looks like the old RCB..agree..looks kind of scummy from the street. I read in the paper they are trying to get extended liquor license for a '"lounge" upstairs. I heard from 1 person that Thai place wasn't great either and service was horrific.
Haverhill area chowhound choices are slim
2 New Places in Haverhill- ? Anyone tried them
Just wondering...couple of new places downtown Haverhill..
Alforno Trattoria- in the old River City Billiards location (formerly Toula's)
Taste of Bangkok-Thai place in the the old Jimmys IV location.
Feedback appreciated...
Which ice cream cone do you go out of your way for?
I second the Fresh Raspberry ice cream from Benson's in Boxford..they only have for a short time during raspberry season. It's a little more $$ than their regular flavors..but it's awesome.
Glory in Andover??
We went Saturday night and it was good but I'm not sure we'll rush back.
Food and service was average . I agree with previous posts that this place is over rated and expensive. Lounge is dark and lacks a "buzz".
Rustic Kitchen-Theater District
I've seen posts about this place but mostly about the cooking demostrations/classes on Friday nights..which sound like alot of fun and I would love to do after the holidays.
.
However, has anyone been there recently for a regular meal? Looking for a place for 12 people
for before theater show, that's fun , lively, not too pricey etc.
Glory in Andover??
Has anyone been there recently and if so what did you think?
We have reservations for next Saturday with another couple and
always get a little anxious when trying a new place with guests.
Any feedback would be appreciated
Apple Cider?
I too hate the processed kind..tastes like fake apple juice.
Cider Hill- gets my vote.
Cider Hill Farm is in Amesbury..no preservatives or additives..delicious!! They also have a huge selection of different kinds of apples..one's that you don't see at other orchards. I've heard they have good cider donuts too, but I've never tasted them. The line is always too long to wait. They have a nice store with produce/food products and gift items as well as the bakery. It's a nice place to visit.
I just tried another cider from "Fay's Farm" on Amesbury Line road in Haverhill, near the Whittier Voc Tech High School. It was also very, very good..not pasteurized ,no preservatives. Very good too!
PS..Cider goes great with Stoyli Vanilla Vodka and a little shake of apple pie spice..Yum,Yum.
Vinny's Superette- Somerville
Thank-you all for your feedback.Loved Vinny's at Night.
We went there on Saturday and had a delicious meal and lots of fun. Lively place.
I had the beef braciole over the homemade mafalde pasta and my husband
that the seafood extravaganza over fuselli. Ton of seafood in his entree. We both took a home left overs.Great service..good bread..nice wine list..all reasonably priced. Far better than most restaurants in North End!!.
Vinny's Superette- Somerville
Never been..read a few reviews from Boston.com. Looks like a fun place.
Thinking of going there w/ some friends next weekend.
Any recent visits with feedback?
