Very cool! It will be great to meet a poster I've been reading for a long time:-) |
Me too! |

I loved Patricia Unterman, and was always curious about her leaving the Chron- anyone have info they would like to share? |
I am curious, what is his pull, or influence? Can he really make or break a restaurant by his review? |
I am going next Tues. with my coworkers for my birthday- really looking forward to it and will report after, glad to have the tips:-) |

Bourdain Parts Unknown: Montreal / Quebec Never a put down, did you see the show?? |
Bourdain Parts Unknown: Montreal / Quebec One woman spoke on the entire show, had less than 6 seconds of air time, and it was about a place that served baloney sandwiches. Women were barely on screen, only in crowd scenes very fleetingly. Tony is really showing a boys club. |

Oh that really sounds marvelous, I will have to check them out the next time I am in Salinas- are the tortillas homemade? |
Oh, this is right by my house, I have been seeing the sign for them since I moved here, I'll have to check it out! |
the owner of Soleil passed away, and I saw a sign there this weekend for a new place- forget the name, but didn't sound African. New owners. |

Less is more...if you want it to be oyster stew, it has very few ingredients. Just oysters, their liquor, butter, milk, salt and pepper. One or two oysters per spoonful. You can add all sorts of things, but it isn't oyster stew if you do. |

oops just noticed typo in the name el Frijolito!! |
It is very popular with my friends who work in Watsonville, didn't realize it had been there that long! |
i have been meaning to try this place for over a year, and finally made it for lunch yesterday. No menus, just pictures of items posted on the wall by the cashier. Small, clean no frill restaurant right off the square in Watsonville. I had a camarones tostada and carnitas taco. They were served with a big (for one person) bowl of chips and salsa. The carnitas was very moist and flavorful, and a very generous portion for $2.00. The shrimp tostada was also generous, and the shrimp was mixed with a very bright tasting pico di gallo. Even though the place is called El Frijolito, I didn't order any beans:-). I will be back when I am in the area. |

Marrow - New in Uptown, Oakland Address please? |

Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA Thanks, that's been pointed out. |
Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA Thanks, and perhaps I wasn't clear, I am in no way attempting to judge any culture, or any part of Korean culture. I enjoyed Tony drilling down on a particular slice of LA. I was struck by there being no women at all on the show until 3/4 of the way through the show- and the comments from David Choe. I apologize for not getting his name correctly. |
Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA Thanks, I meant in the context of this show and my comments...I don't understand what points Ipsedixit was making using those two terms :-) |
Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA Are you Korean? Did this episode seem like a good representation of LA Koreatown? |
Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA What is Gordian and what is inapt? And I was judging Tony if I was judging anyone. |
Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA In what way? What am I missing? Not snarky, but seriously.. |
I used to see them at Nob Hill, but haven't looked in awhile. |
Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA Sorry I got his name wrong, thank you. I am not trying to be pious, I was just struck by the fact that until the mother was filmed there were no women on the show. I imagine that aprox 50% of the people in Koreatown are women. Then the young man saying his mother is not allowed in his house, and leaves food for him outside his door, and he would never marry a Korean woman. Just struck by this. |
Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA And David Chang won't allow his mother in his home, and says he won't marry a Korean woman when they are eating at his parents' home. Nice |
Parts unknown, Koreatown in LA Many things I like about this episode. I like taking one small part of LA, one not usually focused on, and drilling down. But, so far, 75% of show is over, and not one woman on the show??? And the guy who is an artist, didn't catch his name who wouldn't date a Korean woman. Oy |

Photos in restaurants- what's the big deal? Ok my pet peeve is apostrophes where they don't belong:-) it is photos, plural- an apostrophe connotes ownership- the photo doesn't own anything! |

good eats in Anaheim near the Anaheim Marriott Well, Anaheim near Disneyland is.....interesting. Didn't follow any suggestions here for various reasons but ate adequately none the less. First night the group really wanted to go to the Disney street, outside of Disney land, and we had pizza outside at a restaurant called Napoli's I believe. The pizza wasn't bad, prices weren't too overpriced, it didn't suck. Next night just ate at the hotel restaurant, Casa del sol at the Anaheim Marriott. It was pretty good, had wild mushroom ravioli in brown butter sage sauce. Again, adequate, certainly wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but after a long busy day it was nice to not have to go out anywhere. Last night was the best, we ate at an Indian restaurant called Gandhi's Palace I believe, in a nearby motel. It was very decent Indian food at very reasonable prices. Mostly Indian customers, seems to be off the beaten path for the hordes visiting Disney, even though it is just down the street from Disney and the convention center. This is the land of chain restaurants and masses of people, definitely not an area I would seek out, but enjoyed my meals there nonetheless. |

good eats in Anaheim near the Anaheim Marriott actually that sounds right up my alley! |

Stops on I 5 between San Francisco and the Northern CA border I second burger express in Mt Shasta, also Billy Goat Tavern in Mt Shasta, and Gold Rush Burgers in Yreka. Gold Rush makes onion rings from scratch, out of this world, but only open for lunch. I have heard Putah Creek Cafe in Winters is good, but I have never tried it. Stay away from Lily's in Mt Shasta. |
