3 day trip for cool cocktails, great food and other tips -30yr old newlyweds

Husband and I arrive Friday morning from Virginia and staying at the W. Currently have reservations Friday night at Trulucks, Saturday at Seersucker, and Sunday at Cowboy star. Thoughts? Nervous about seersucker...

We don't mind walking quite a bit from place to place. Also want to hit linkery, georges, Eddie v's, top of the market, j six?

For drinks, lions share, alchemy, vagabond?

Appreciate any insight in advance!

We are looking for hip/fun atmosphere where we can sit at the bar, barhop, maybe hear some good music...thanks all!

Not your typical Nashville Bachelorette Party...

Thank you all so much. After doing some research on everyone's ideas, this is what I am thinking:

Friday night-Suzy Wong's for Dinner
Cocktails at Play

Saturday-Buger Up for lunch and nash trash tour at 2p

Then dinner and drinks in the Gulch.

Virago for dinner, Sambuca for drinks.

How far is Patterson house? That looks like my kind of spot!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your feedback all!

Not your typical Nashville Bachelorette Party...

We are a group of 10 girls in our late 20s/early 30s heading to Nashville April 8 weekend. We are staying two nights at The Hermitage Hotel and are looking for some seriously fantastic food.

Friday we are seeking a more low key, less expensive option. Something local and fun.

Saturday, we are looking for Southern meets Swank! Looking for an upscale, fun restaurant that can easily accomodate our number. Great cocktails would be a plus.

Any ideas for bars we could hit afterwards? Great mixologists/cocktail menus we should not miss?

We will not have cars but have no problem cabbing it when needed.

Thanks so much!

Local in Richmond

I don't have much new to add but I LOVE Mezzanine and I know they definitely aim to serve the majority of local items. Everything I eat there is fabulous. Just a few of my favorites are shrimp cakes, quinoa cake, pineapple fried rice with rockfish and the chicken with goat cheese. BUT my absolute favorite hands down are the braised short ribs and grits. Unbelievable. Go for brunch and get shrimp and grits...pretty much life changing.

Bachlorette Party Weekend of May 8-Swanky AND Affordable?

Thank you all for your recommendations and help with our dinner in Atlantic City! We ate dinner at The Continental at Caesar's and it was perfect! THANK YOU for the suggestion to eat in the "bubble room". It's called the Sammy Davis Room and we loved the atmosphere. The menu was great! Super affordable and great cocktails...exactly what we wanted! I had the tuna with mushroom risotto and it was delicious, cooked perfectly and filling but not too much. I think it was $17 too which was great. A few of the girls split tapas including the crabcakes (creamy and delicious), sliders (I didn't try but got great reviews), and buffalo meatballs. Everyone loved it and our server Jackie was awesome. Thank you again!

Bachlorette Party Weekend of May 8-Swanky AND Affordable?

LOL, speaking on entertainment... well we definitely booked our dinner reservation but ran into several issues with table service, it's actually only 6 girls so we can't meet the 3 bottle $750 minimums at most of the clubs
:( And suggestions on a better way to book a bottle service? I tried posting under the spirits section but no one answered me! Thanks in advance!

Brunch at the Sidewalk Cafe in the Fan

Thanks for the review! Sidewalk has such a fun, casual brunch, it's one of my favorites! Next time get the Eggs Edwina, named after the waitress who proabably took care you that morning!

Any tips for bottle service in Atlantic City?

Hey All,

Group of 6-8 girls coming to Atlantic City from Richmond and DC for a bachlorette party on May 8 and want to get bottle service at Mur Mur or the Pool at Harrah's. Seems like it's going to cost us around $1000. Does anyone know any tricks of the trade to either get more for our money or pay less? Can't do bottle service in VA so we are a little unsure if this is the way to go. We want to have seating and make it "special" for the bachlorette. I appreciate any help, thanks!

Bachlorette Party Weekend of May 8-Swanky AND Affordable?

Hey All,

Group of 7 girls coming to AC for bachelorette party from Richmond, VA on Saturday May 8. We are spending a lot of money on the hotel (Harrah's) and looks like in order to get table service we are going to have to spend about a thousand bucks as well. So...we are looking for a fun place to go to dinner but don't need a swanky steakhouse. The bride is somewhat of a picky eater so no ethnic food please. Looking for good cocktail menu, fun atmosphere, and an upscale feel without the price (I know this is a tall, somewhat unrealistic, order). Thanks in advance!

Two dinners in Richmond/Short Pump

Yep, I third that...Boathouse is overrated. Nice for the view and a cocktail but totally out of the way and food is mediocre. I love Azzuro and also really like Osaka Sushi and Steak nearby. Delicious sushi, steaks, and seafood. There is also one in Short Pump by the same owners I believe but for some reason, I don't think it's as good as the one on River Road. Little Venice off Ridgefield Parkway isn't too far and has great steaks and Italian specials. Angela's is another FANTASTIC Italian place on Ridge Road that has wonderful seafood and pasta and is family owned, which I love. Not exactly Short Pump area but not too far either. Let us know where you end up!

Roanoke, VA?

I used to work in Roanoke and often had great sushi and really good martinis at Metro!. It's a swanky place, especially for Roanoke and has great service. If you're looking for good steaks, Frankie Roland is excellent. They also have great martinis! Market 202 is also decent, although a touch overrated. But it's a fun place to go for a drink before and after dinner. There is a farmer's market downtown but I don't know much about it. If you're staying at Hotel Roanoke you can walk to a ton of places, all of the above included. Hope that helps!

Happy Hour Specials in Richmond, VA

Oh I love this post! Starlite is the best on Tuesdays with $2 rails all night as someone else mentioned but it gets a great crowd and is usually a ton of fun. Wednesday is 1/2 price wine night a lot of places but Rowland I know for sure. Thurs, Fri and Sat The Tobacco Company Club has $1 rails from 8-9p then $4 White Grape Vodka and Redbull and $3 Smirnoffs all night. Thursday is Ladies Night at Metro and they have specials but I can't recall what they are. Sunday at Deluxe they have a DJ and $2 rails I believe. Ipanema has $2 drafts on Monday nights. Oh Tobacco first floor M-F 430-7 2.50 rails, $5 Chimays, $1 off call liquor, $2 domestic bottles, $5 Martini specials and a new bar menu (yes I work there!). Hmmmm, I will keep thinking and add more. I want a cocktail!

Richmond help!

La Grotta in Shockoe Slip has a unique wine cellar where they seat large groups semi-privately, I am not certain of the number it holds but it's a great space with delicous food, may be worth looking into.

Blue Light Grill & Raw Bar Charlottesville, VA

I ate at Blue Light last Tuesday before the John Mayer concert at JPJ. Here are my thoughts...they were featuring several different oysters that night some from New England, some from Chesapeake, etc and we weren't sure of the distiction so my boyfriend and I asked for half dozen of each of the bartenders two favorites. At 2.50 apiece, I thought this was pretty expensive for 12 TINY oysters. They were "good", we had cocktail sauce and bacon mignoette and the cocktail sauce was definitely the winner. They were fun to eat but for $30, we probably would get something differently if we returned. I had the scallops with corn and asparagus for my entree and while the taste combo was DELICIOUS, it was served cold. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but it was a little odd. The flavor was so lovely though that I couldn't stop eating it, despite the temperature! The added bacon pieces were a great touch. All in all, it was okay. Service was ho hum. We sat at the bar as we usually do when dining out and enjoy chatting with bartenders, especially since we are from Richmond and were curious as to what else the downtown mall had to offer. Our bartender wasn't really interested in talking, which is fine but left us a little turned off. I would go for a drink, maybe split an entree as an appetizer and then go somewhere else for your meal. Let me know your thoughts if you try it out!

Need Restaurant Recs near Convention Center in Richmond

Hillfoodie, tell me about Belvidere at Broad? I have tried to go a time or two but they were closed, I think it was on a Sunday or a Monday. Do they have steaks and seafood or lighter fare?

I love both Millies and Acacia but I think Millies is more laid back and funky than Acacia. Acacia is more modern, sleek, stark.

Richmond: ISO of lunch & dinner recs for local gems that serve adult bevs & are kid-friendly.

If you make it down close to VCU campus, Ipanema is a great place for healthy, funky foods and to grab a beer. I agree with Janet about Mekong, it's delicious and has really fun cocktails! I am most familiar with the Fan area so if you come a little futher East on Broad St there are lots of gems. Chiocca's on Belmont is a fantastic sandwich shop/basement dive that serves beer and is always entertaining. Weezie's in Carytown is kid friendly and has a full bar, they also serve breakfast. Not the most inventive menu I have ever seen but it's good, solid food. I also like Elephant Thai at VCU.

Breakfast in Richmond, VA

I love Mezzanine for brunch-best shrimp and grits I have ever had, I know The Tobacco Company (who I work for) is open for brunch/lunch for Easter and the entire month of May, and i also enjoy Lulu's brunch. I didn't realize Zeus had brunch, I think I will try it this weekend!
