Dinner with Executive Boss and Clients [Wilmington, DE]

Moro is very good. It's upscale, but it doesn't feel snobby.

I haven't been to Chelsea Tavern since the changes in the kitchen, but my husband and I really enjoyed the meals we've had there.

Dinner with Executive Boss and Clients [Wilmington, DE]

Iron Hill on the Riverfront might be a good compromise. I've never had a bad meal there. It's not really upscale, but the food is great and can please a wide variety of tastes. Washington Street Ale House is more casual, but along the same lines.

Sullivan's is okay, but a little overrated in my opinion.

Domaine Hudson could be another option, but I haven't seen a review since they were sold to new owners.

Downtown Wilimington DE esp Ethnic

I've only been to Evelyn's once, but really liked it - I had a great fried fish sandwich and took home pieces of carrot cake and red velvet cheesecake (both were amazing). The service was great. I'll be going more often once it warms up a bit and I can walk there from my office for lunch. I have co-workers who go there all the time.

Portuguese in Brick area?

My grandparents moved down to their summer home in Brick a few years ago, and my grandmother happened to mention this morning that they miss the Portuguese restaurants in the Kearney/ Newark area. Any suggestions?

The pan-Asian explosion in Wilmington

My husband and I used to go to Jasmine all the time, but we haven't been back in a while (not because of the food - just found other places). We thought Kooma was overpriced for the quality. I had a great lunch at Rasa Sayang - the food was wonderful, and the server helped my friend and I pick a great "beginner" sampler.

My husband and I really liked what we had at Le Shio. The service wasn't great, but they were a bit understaffed as they has just opened. The server was nice enough, but it's hard to wait tables and bartend. We definitely plan to go back.

You're right - there are a TON of these restaurants in the area. I think Chinese food has gone so mainstream, that this sort of cuisine seems "safe" to people.

New Castle Farmers Market? Any reviews?

I don't live far from there, and I'd love to know if it was worth the trip. Any specific vendor recommendations?

Also (and I hope it's okay to ask here), do you know if there are any vendors that sell puppies? I'd rather not go if that's the case.

Thanks!

Steaks in Wilmington DE?

Iron Hill is great! They have a very diverse menu, including steaks. I can't speak to the steak specifically, but we've never had a bad meal there.

Delaware Anniversary dinner

Our 4th anniversary is Thursday, and I'd like to try someplace new. We've gone to Domaine Hudson the last 2 years, and it's wonderful, but I'm sure there are other places we can go. I'm looking for something along the same price range, or maybe a little cheaper. The Green Room and Moro are a bit out of our range. :)

We will eat just about anything. A quiet place would be nice, but not a requirement.

I was thinking Toscana, which I've been to before and really enjoyed.

Any place that you can recommend?

What can I do with no-so-great apples?

I would never have thought to make apple butter. I'll be home all day Thursday - now I know what I'll be doing!

What can I do with no-so-great apples?

I bought a bag of red delicious apples the other day, and they are kind of mealy. The flavor is good, but I really don't like the texture. Any suggestions so they don't go to waste? My dog enjoys them, but she can't eat the whole basket!

I-95 help - Delaware to Orlando

Peanut pie? That sounds right up our alley!

I just looked at their website and realized that I love their peanuts! We get them all the time from a vendor here at work. I will also recommend the chocolate covered peanut brittle that a friend sent me for Christmas last year.

Thanks! I looked through the first few pages, and didn't see much, but I found some posts from farther back.

I-95 help - Delaware to Orlando

My husband and I are driving down to Florida next week (leaving this Sunday and back next Sunday). I know this is a big range, but I'd love some advice as to where we can stop for lunch/ dinner/ snacks that isn't too far off 95.

I'd rather not end up eating at rest stops the whole time. We don't have much of an itinerary planned (besides a few days near Charlotte with friends on the way down) so anywhere you all recommend will go on a list of addresses to refernce when we feel like we need to stop.

Plus, since we are going down for my husband to play in a softball tournament, I'd probably be able to talk him into anything I want as payback for going along. :)

Thanks!

Wilmington- near the court houses

I really like Bean Bag Cafe. Their address is 913 Market, but the main entrance is on the next block over (Orange, maybe? It's between 9th and 10th). Their turkey chili is very good, and I've never had a bad sandwich there.

Also, Leo & Jimmy's on Market is supposed to be very good. Lettuce Feed You is a SaladWorks sort of place that is a few storefronts down from Qdoba.

Orlando Magical Dining recs?

http://www.orlandoinfo.com/magicaldining/results.cfm

My husband and I will be in Orlando in a week, and we might have a free night. Are there any places on this list we need to try, or some we should definitely avoid?

We'll eat almost any cuisine, but are probably not planning on packing "nicer" clothes - I can probably talk him into khakis, but jeans may be as far we go. :)

Thanks!

Exchange on Market (Wilmington, DE) - Recent experiences?

It's within walking distance of my office, and my new boss asked me to pick a good place for lunch for 3 of us on Friday. The menu is no longer on the website for some reason.

I enjoyed it when I went there after it first opened, but I was hoping for a more recent review, especially information about the prices.

I was also considering Deep Blue or Washington Street Ale House...

Why I love the Border Cafe

I am totally with you! My husband and I go there more than we should. The salsa and chips are the best, and the guacamole isn't bad either.

I do wish they'd ask before refilling a drink, though. I always feel bad when they bring one over at the end of our meal and I cannot possibly consume any more liquids.

The salmon with the chimichurri/ salad/ corn and black beans is one of my favorite meals of all time.

Newark Delaware and environs

Border Cafe is always a good choice! Make sure to try the frozen sangria.

Not far from there is Potstickers, which my husband and I also enjoy. It has a variety of asian dishes - sushi to dumplings to stir-fries. It has a nice atmosphere, but it isn't too expensive in my opinion.

Dunkin' Donuts 99cent B'fast Wrap - HA!

Exaclty. I had one recently, and it was pretty good. A lot of breakfast sandwiches seem too greasy to me, but this wasn't at all. It's small, but I think it's a decent portion for the price. Add in a portion of the surprisingly good hash browns, and it's not a bad breakfast, IMO.

Dinner in Richmond

I just sent my husband the link to The Black Sheep, and I think we have a winner. We aren't going to be able to have a whole night out b/c his best friend (who we see maybe twice a year) will be in Richmond for the tournament as well. I get a nice dinner and then an evening of drinking by the hotel pool!
It will probably be a game time decision. I'll come back with review of wherever we end up.

Dinner in Richmond

My husband and I will be in Richmond this weekend for a softball tournament, and I was promised a night out on Friday. :) Can anyone recommend a good place for dinner? We will be staying at the Sheraton on West Broad Street - the hotel info says it is in the West End.

We will eat just about anything, but are on a budget. I'd like to spend under $75 for 2. I'd rather be able to make a reservation, but we could wait a little bit if the place is worth it. We don't want anything too fancy - just good food and a good atmosphere. If jeans are acceptable, it would be a plus, but not a dealbreaker.

One recommendation I received was Comfort, which definitely seems our speed.

Thank you!

2 Pavlova Questions

Thanks! I had searched, but I guess I didn't use the right keywords.

I have been wanting to make lemon curd for years. Now I have a reason!

Mother's Day Salad Ideas

Dried cranberries are one of my new salad staples, especially in a salad like that. They are just sweet enough.

2 Pavlova Questions

I am making Ina Garten's pavlova on Monday for Mothers' Day. It was a HUGE hit last year, so I am going to make 2 this time.

1) Can I double the recipe, or would I be better off making 2 separate batches? I don't bake very much, and I am deciding whether the ease of mixing it once outweighs my fear of not dividing the mix correctly onto the pans.

2) What do I do with 8 extra large egg yolks? Can I store them easily for something? I've always just thrown them away, but that was for smaller batches of meringues. 8 is a lot to waste.

Thanks!

Wedding toast for wine, salt and bread

I am part Lithuanian, and my husband and I were give wine, bread, and salt as our first meal to share as we entered our wedding reception. They represent joy, work, and tears as the 3 elements of a life together.

Has anyone been to "Pollo Tropical"?

No - I live in Delaware. :( I've been to the one in Clifon by my family, and still talk about it months later.

Closest excellent pizza to Wilmington, DE?

Mazzella's is very good. I've noticed the crust gets a bit soggy when we go overboard on toppings (marriage=compromise:) ), but I am picky about my pizza, and it's one of only a few places around here I like.

Nick's Pizza Subline is across the street. We got pizza from there once a few weeks ago and it was also pretty decent.

Seeking steak in Wilmington, DE

Firebirds is across from Christiana Hospital, near Potstickers and AAA (and Olive Garden/ Red Lobster, if you want to admit to knowing where they are :) ). It's a chain, but we've had nothing but great meals there, both here and in NC. It's pretty decently priced for a steakhouse, too, in my opinion.
Warning - they don't take reservations, but they do call ahead seating. It seems like they are getting pretty busy, and I'd definitely call ahead. We waited a few minutes on Monday night, and when we called at 6:30 or so, it was about a half hour wait. I'm sure weekend will be worse.

Seeking steak in Wilmington, DE

We ate at Firebirds the other night, and we will definitely go back. We;ve been to one in North Carolina a few times with friends, and everything has been great.

I had a filet with bleu cheese sauce, and the steak was cooked perfectly for me (medium rare). I'd definitely recommend it over Sullivan's at least.

Has anyone been to "Pollo Tropical"?

My family in Clifton, NJ got takeout from there once. It was so good! Everything we had was delicious, especially the guava barbecue sauce. I wish there was one closer to me.
My husband and I are actually going to visit them this weekend - now I'll have to make sure we get there.
