ISO: Nata / Portuguese custard tarts in Brampton
So, my sister in law had a nata tart for the first time the other day and swooned. She live in Bramptmon. Does anyone know where one might find these in Brampton?
Toronto’s Best Butter Tarts Aren’t in Toronto
Yeah, they're my second favourite after the Blue Mountain Bakery actually, but I'm far more addicted to their apple cider doughnuts...

Toronto’s Best Butter Tarts Aren’t in Toronto
oh, it's just that many of the places listed don't have butter tarts. But the butter tarts on the list for sure have butter. *grin*
has timothy's tikka house closed down?
There's brown craft paper on the windows and no signs explaining what's happening.
But there are also tell-tale signs of renovation.
Does anyone know if they're just renovating (fingers crossed) or if they've closed down (big sad face)
Can anyone tell me where in Toronto to get back bacon on a bun (not peameal)?
they have a huge charcoal bbq that they set up during the festival to cook and keep warm a million things, but I'd say they wouldn't have room to maintain something like that year round.
Can anyone tell me where in Toronto to get back bacon on a bun (not peameal)?
During the Cabbagetown festival on the 12th and 13th of September this year (always the weekend after the long weekend I think) the Epicure shop on Parliament, just south of Carlton, has them. They're amazing. Thin thin thin sliced back bacon on a bun, no peameal. I also really don't like peameal bacon. But I dream about this sandwich...
Gauntlet has been thrown down!! Need Dinner Suggestion
Does it need to be fancy, or just tasty?
What about a really good roti? There are, of course, many debates on this board about where to get the best one is, but it maybe the kind of thing he wouldn't get in Sao Paolo. My favourite in town has always been Island Foods.
Or, what about Indian? Again, debates rage over the best one to choose from, a search of the board will tell you about options close to where you want to be I'm sure. I generally like to wander through little India and take my chances mostly.
Sushi perhaps? Omi on Carlton is a nice place to bring someone, and it would fit into the 'slightly fancy' category, unlike the other two suggestions I've made.
Breakfast in the Distillery District
Weekday, or weekend? And, if weekend, which day?
Good Hot Dogs in GTA
I love Olympic dogs from Costco. embee, is there any chance you know *which* Maple Leaf dogs they are? I love the idea of being able to get these at grocery store instead of having to wait until we trek out to Costco.
ISO: Oakville resto with patio overlooking the lake
Thanks iamam, looks like that's where we'll be going.
Of course, it also looks like it's going to pour, so we'll likely be dining inside. ;)
ISO a great Mac and Cheese
I have loved the Mac and Cheese at the Senator.
A word of warning about Weezie's, there's meat in it. I also happen to think it's delicious, but the listing in the menu didn't mention that there was meat in it, and my partner is a vegetarian, so it was a challenge. Although, I did get the sense that they were going to fix the oversight in their menu, in case they haven't yet I thought I'd pass it on...
ISO: Oakville resto with patio overlooking the lake
I'm looking for a restaurant in Oakville that has a patio overlooking the lake.
My grandparents are going to be here from BC and I'm meeting them in Oakville for lunch. I'm supposed to figure out where to go, and thought a lake view would be nice.
I should say, my grandparents aren't the most adventurous of eaters, so we're looking for something with a pretty basic menu.
Stoneboats has been suggested...
Any where else?
ISO: Free WiFi and a good latte in Kensington Market
So, I have to be in Kensington Market today for an appointment, but I would like to get some work done beforehand.
Normally I go to Jet Fuel for my free wifi and latte fix, but today I'm looking for somewhere in Kensington Market.
Preferably near the corner of Nassau and Bellevue.
Suggestions?
recommendations for Toronto Centre for the Arts?
Is there any kind of update on this since last year? My grandmother is coming in on some kind of seniors bus tour thing for a matinee of Jersey Boys and I'm meeting her at the theatre when she gets off the bus and we're going to have lunch.
I'm looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful and in very close walking distance (she's not terribly mobile). Honestly, the walking distance is the most important part, but boy, it sure would be nice to have some decent food at the same time.
(Toronto) Does Weezies have a website?
Thanks BokChoi!
I am recommending it to a friend and I generally like to include a website with my recommendations, but this works too. *grin*
(Toronto) Does Weezies have a website?
Hey folks,
I've searched around but with limited (aka: no) success for a website for Weezies. Does anyone know if they have one?
Thanks!
Cultured unsalted butter in Toronto (East york)
Presidents Choice has a nice cultured unsalted butter, perhaps the have an organic version as well?
Chicken balls with sweet & sour sauce... Who's got good ones?
I'm tellin' ya man, China Gourmet chicken balls, all the way. *grin*
ISO: Fresh sauerkraut in Toronto
cool, thanks! I'm located in Cabbagetown, but have a car and am more than happy to travel for food adventures. ;)
Triny Doubles and Aloo Pie
Okay, tell me about Aloo Pie, because, really, that sounds pretty bloody yummy, I mean, just from the name, because really, potatoes and pie, how can you go wrong?
Gourmet Burger Co Review
Have you tried the burger a couple doors down at Johnny G's?
Seriously, on of the best burgers I've ever had (that I haven't made myself of course. *grin*)
Baby shower venues
In that case, what about somewhere like the Old Mill? They have private rooms that are quite lovely.
Mid-Range, locally slanted dinner recs?
One of the nice things at Mill Street is the beer sampler. 4 of their brews in small glasses. My partner and I really enjoyed that aspect. I can't remember what we ate, but it was tasty enough - not a place I'd go out of the way for to get food, but certainly did the trick...
Chicken balls with sweet & sour sauce... Who's got good ones?
I actually really enjoy the chicken balls from China Gourmet. http://www.chinagourmet.tk/ One on Carlton, and one on York Mills.
ISO: Fresh sauerkraut in Toronto
Hey folks,
Does anyone have a recommendation for fresh sauerkraut in Toronto?
I'm sort of assuming that something on Roncesvalles is going to be our best bet, but I'm not really sure where, and am hoping for some guidance.
Thanks!
Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee?
There was a roadshow at Costco the other day selling a variety of coffees, including Blue Mountain. Now, it's no where near as good as the bazzilion dollar Blue Mountain Coffee that I got downstairs in the St. Lawrence market, but it's some damn fine coffee. I'm sure it's not 'real' BMC since it was only $25 for a big costco sized bag of the stuff. But yeah, it sure is tasty.
Baby shower venues
It depends on what kind of an atmosphere you want. If you're aiming for high tea type atmosphere then this won't work but...
My partner and I strongly considered The Academy of Spherical Arts for our shower, because not only do you get to do normal shower things, but you can play some pool and hang out too. It just was a bit more versatile.
Guelph Eats
Oh my. Bombay Cafe 'special lunch'. Sooooooo good. Making me feel like hoping in the car and heading to Guelph.
And Greek Garden, sooooo good. I've yet to find a place that rivals it in Toronto.
Sometimes I really miss Guelph...
Oh, and Bistro Six is no longer Alvin and Glenna, I've been told it isn't really as good any more, but haven't experienced it myself.
Guelph Eats
agreed. I'm kind of craving Carden Street right now. Latino's seems to have gone downhill, which is a shame, I used to LOVE them.
