what's new in Northern NM/Santa Fe

We were in Santa Fe two weeks ago.

Tapas at La Boca was excellent, and not cheap. They had blood sausage on the menu which I haven't seen too often.

We had dinner at Cafe Pasquals which was very good, but left none of us exclaiming over.

Finally, the drinking chocolate as Kakawa's had us making a second stop for more.

Where to find a cafe in Honolulu that serves 100% Kona coffee?

We try to drink the coffee grown on that island: Hawaii Island, Maui, Kauai.

On Kauai and Maui you can go to the company store for a cuppa.

sedona v flagstaff

Flagstaff is a real town, not a tourist-mystical town like Sedona. If you want restaurants that cater to normal folks then Flag is the place for you.

Tucson trip roundup: Agustin Kitchen, the Coronet, Prep & Pastry, Ghini's Cafe, NoRTH, SEIS, Exo Coffee

Had a meh experience at Prep & Pastry this morning. Excellent service though.

Ghini's is hit and miss we find. Her father's bakery (attached to Ghini's, but separate area, is much more satisfying.

Rec's for Tucson, preferably Japanese

We met a member of the Tucson Sushi club last week. She told that they consider Shogun (5036 N Oracle Rd, Tucson) to be the best in town.

We've been there, seems okay, but Sushi in Seattle is far better.

Any thoughts about Feast in Tucson?

An ever changing menu, a bit quirky, a very creative restaurant. One of our favorite spots in town.

Mexican Food Generally and in Tucson, Question for Hounds at the End.

We are full year Tucson residents. During winter we avoid the restaurants that are popular with winter visitors as they can be overwhelmed by the crowds.

For CPC, we go for lunch on a blazing-hot summer day. Relaxed service and menu presentation. Not overly sweet in our estimation.

Maui - Lahaina

I'd rather go there for lunch, but both are suitable for kids and adults.

Also on the water are Mala Ocean Tavern and Honu. Both quite suitable.

Tucson - Proper and Diablo Burger

Two much hyped food Additions from Flagstaff have recently opened in Tucson. We went to each of them a week apart.

Diablo Burger offers grass fed, no hormones beef. Served on house-made english muffin buns and fries. Our group of four found the burgers to be prepared as requested but the taste was Meh. It's a small, fairly stark, room. Service was fine but those that had glasses of wine noted that the pour size varied greatly. We did not found a reason for returning.

The following week had us at Proper for lunch. When we walked in we started getting good vibes - attractive room, tables and booths, large windows. Nice!

I had the Gatsby. I don't like Blue Cheese at all, and it was no problem to omit it. A good sized lunch, too much for me. I brought 1/2 sandwich home but - oink oink - I did scarf down the frites. My wife had Pork Belly Sliders. Thumbs up!

Dessert - Chili & Chocolate Ganache Tart. A very nice hit of dark chocolate and a zing of chili. We will definitely order this again.

Service - Impeccable and calm.

Music - lively but not loud.
