New BBQ find is the best - watchout, Lansdale

I withdraw my comments about Fletcher's being the best. I apologize for not trying Smoke Daddy's first. I am a Smoke Daddy's convert. Uncle Greg's is good but Smoke Daddy tops him.

Fletcher's BBQ - takeout and delivery, and small counter

I posted the "watch out Lansdale" entry last year. I officially renege my comments. I'm a Smoke Daddy's convert. No comparison. I'm actually sorry I posted without doing my homework first. Also tried Uncle Greg's, which was good. Still prefer Smoke Daddy's. In the name of full disclosure, I haven't tried Oink Johnson.

Ristorante Toscano in Lansdale

Tried this place for the first time tonight. We wanted something not over-crowded and more relaxing than some of the larger places. It's BYOB and the food is great. The front is deceptively small, yet inside there is plenty of room. The number of specials was astounding, the service was terrific, and a couple of piano players arrived and started playing during our meal. We tried a salad special and the sauteed calamari from the menu. The calamari was like none I'd ever had (and I've had a bunch) As main courses we had the Basa fish special and swapped out one of the toppings/sauce for another (waitress told us that if we didn't see it, he could make it, so I figured I'd ask). The other dinner was a veal with a balsamic reduction. The olive oil on the table was high quality, so much that we asked if we could buy some. The chef/owner came to the table and chatted for as long as he could stay out of the kitchen without falling behind. We wandered into the attached market/deli and he brought out another of his special appetizers to try -- a fried pickle, which was surprisingly good. He told us they have a special gnocchi night and a Souperbowl party the week before the real Superbowl. Anyway, long story shorter, I highly recommend this find.

Rosey's BBQ coming to Ambler!

Well it should be interesting to see Rosey's vs. Wooley's!

I would love to hear all of your opinions if you do try this place. I am going to try Smoke Daddy's and Oink Johnson after reading these posts.

Finally tried Mina Cucina in Springhouse

I just read the entire thread. All I can say is that I've tried Mina twice. Both times, not so good. That fried spaghetti was a turn off and seemed to be just a way for them to put something very inexpensive on the table. I can't even remember exactly what we ordered because it wasn't anything memorable. I'd to to Il Giardino almost any day of the week instead. I say 'almost' because a Saturday night there is a disaster. To their credit, they get overwhelmed, but they cannot handle it. We tried takeout a few weeks back and not only did we find ourselves waiting for an hour in their little lobby with a few other families who were in the same predicament, but they messed up the order in the end anyway. Other than that experience, the food there is much better than Mina, in my humble opinion.

Thanks for your comments! We will definitely try Smoke Daddys'. There was nothing overcooked about these ribs, though. I'll be very interested in your review of Fletcher's, too. Have fun in down South!

New BBQ find is the best - watchout, Lansdale

My husband spotted Fletcher's BBQ in Roslyn, PA the other day and we were compelled to give it a try. It's on Easton Road near the Willow Grove Mall, and is family owned and operated. We tried it out tonight, getting a couple of takeout platters to share. I can only say that it was truly amazing, the best ribs I've had. Period. The ribs were truly falling off the bone. I like Rosey's, and tried Uncle Greg's a few months ago. No comparison on this part of the meal. Mac n' Cheese was also very good, as was the cole slaw and the beans. We also tried a meat sampler platter, with brisket, pulled chicken and pulled pork. All of the meat was outstanding. Will be interested in hearing the BBQ aficionados' opinions! Smoke Daddy's Barbecue fridays and saturdays at the Lansdale Eagles Club

Hi. I've been studying all of the entries about Lansdale BBQ. My husband is on his way right now to Uncle Greg's to try it for our first time, which is also our 6th wedding anniversary. Will post our opinions, but we won't be able to compare to Smoke Daddy's until we can get there on a Friday or Saturday before Halloween.

Anthoy's Coal-Fired Pizza: Horsham

I have to disagree. I found the crust not to be 'crisp' but actually burnt. I didn't like the taste or texture of it (think burnt cardboard). Right after eating there, I ran into a friend and shared my experience. He agreed and brought up Taconelli's in terms of it being way better and worth the trip. I'll never order pizza at Anthony's again, but I would like to try the wings.

Vic Sushi in Spring House

Hi. My husband and I have eaten at Vic a bunch of times so far and agree with all of the posts. I thought I'd add a few more points. First, we also like our Spicy Tuna a bit more spicy, so we just ask Vic each time and he accommodates us with a smile. It comes out just perfect. We have also asked him to add avocado to the tuna and salmon roll. My point is that he will do anything you want. Next, I don't think anyone has even mentioned the fact that they have a full Thai menu as well, and we often go in and have some sushi/sashimi, and complement it with an order of the Pad Seeuw with shrimp, chicken or vegetables (depending on our mood) and put the hot sauce on for more spice.

Rosey's BBQ in Jenkintown

I've tried Rosey's twice now, once for takeout and once eat in. Both times were great. Food is consistent, hot sauce is perfect. My 14 year old daughter tried the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. I had the dry rub rib sampler and added hot sauce. We got the mac and cheese, a brisket sandwich for my husband. It was great both times. Cheers to the owner and crew.

Saffron in Ambler

I tried it and the only issue was that I hated the smell. The place is small, so with all of the steaming dishes, it is heady, and I ended up feeling like I needed a shower and to wash all of my clothes. If that smell doesn't bother you, then I recommend it because the food was tasty.
