Where: Niman Ranch Ham Steak & Bacon

I asked the last time I went to Trader Joe's and they told me that they had indeed discontinued all Niman Ranch products. Something to do with the prices going up. I am very disappointed as I don't want another store to have to go to :(

Does anyone know if Al & Bea's is open on Sundays? Yelp says yes but everything else says no. Will be close by today and hear good things about it. Thanks!

restaurants with history?

I am a teacher in LA. I am just beginning to plan a trip to NY with 7th grade journalists. We will be looking at the culinary history of NYC. The students will be researching, reviewing, interviewing chefs, blogging, podcasting, etc. Any suggestions on where I should start looking?

Blair's or Palate for Tomorrow Night?

I have been to Palate three times and have been amazed every time. The owner, Mr. Beccera, is a wonderful chef and the restaurant is all his inspiration. I'm sure that even with the head chef gone the restaurant will still satisfy!

I am meeting a friend for dinner and I am not familiar with the area. Looking for good, cheap mexican food and beer. No chains please!

Daisy Mint, why did we wait so long?

We have been there twice; once at in and once to go. Both times we have had great food at reasonable prices. I particularly like the Panang Curry with pumpkin in it. It gets very crowded and service is slow at times so plan accordingly.

They are not on the menu and might only be available on weekends.

Biscuits and gravy

Auntie Em's is the only place I have tried biscuits and gravy in LA but I absolutely love them! My husband always gets them and I sneak some bites. I will drive there just to get their biscuits which are warm, flakey and buttery!

Restaurants in Vienna

I am chaperoning 9 sixth graders to the Inauguration. We are staying at a house in Vienna. Any ideas on NON-CHAIN restaurants that can accommodate large groups? It can be any ethnicity or for any meal but should be reasonably priced. Thanks!

Looking for Citron

I always make a traditional danish bread at Christmas. It calls for citron (which is similar to the candied fruit used in fruitcakes) but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Any thoughts?

First and last visit to Mike & Anne's

Has anyone else had a bad experience here? My family and I decided to try Mike and Anne's for breakfast today. Usually we go to Auntie Em's but thought we would try something new. I had looked at the menu on their website and was excited to try their cornmeal pancakes with carmelized blueberries. Once we were at the restaurant, I discovered that that is no longer on their menu and has not been for awhile. We had to ask twice and wait a long time to receive water. We ordered coffee and the waiter brought a bowl with splenda and equal but no regular sugar so I had to ask and wait for that. It took about 45 min. to get our breakfast. I ordered a lemon ricotta pancake with blueberry compote, my son had french toast and my husband got cornbeef hash. My pancake was cold and mushy in the middle. I've never had a ricotta pancake so perhaps its supposed to be like that but it was gross. They forgot the blueberrry compote. The cornbeef hash was so incredibly salty like the stuff you get in the can at the grocery store. The french toast was room temperature and completely mushy in the middle. The bill was $32 which my son said was not bad, only $10 a person. I said I would rather have Frosted Mini Wheats and we could get a lot of boxes for $32. here?

Chocolate Transfer Sheets

Does anyone know if there is a store that sells chocolate transfer sheets? I know that I can purchase them online but am looking to get some quickly. I have tried Sur La Table and Williams and Sonoma but don't know of any other gourmet cooking/baking stores in the los angeles area.

Any mexican food like Nico's Taco shops in San Diego?

I found the Alfredo's in Los Angeles and it was exactly what the doctor ordered! Crisp carnitas with just meat and fresh salsa, refried bean and cheese burritos, and tortillas that were fully cooked and not "wet". Thanks so much!

Nico's in San Diego [split from LA board]

There are 2 Nico's in Del Mar which is just a little further south of Carlsbad. Its dirt cheap and really good (IMO).

Any mexican food like Nico's Taco shops in San Diego?

Thanks, I'll look it up. Some places have okay b & c but no carnitas or vice versa. Hopefully I will find someplace and I highly recommend Nico's if you are in San Diego.

Any mexican food like Nico's Taco shops in San Diego?

I'm looking for any place in the LA area that has bean and cheese burritos with great refried beans and flour tortillas that are not wet, and carnitas burritos with pork that's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Any suggestions? I have tried Lucky Boy, Puebla Taco, King Taco, La Estrella, Green St, Dona Rosa, Burrito Express, Cactus, Benitos, Burrito King, Tacos Mexico, My Taco, Tere's, the place at the Farmer's Market, Rosarito's, and Yucca's. I didn't think it would be this hard to replace Nico's!

Long Beach Carbo Load

I am running the Long Beach Marathon this Sunday. Any recommendations for a decent dinner (pasta, salad preferred) that is casual, affordable, and not a chain!

Second City Bistro - Can Their Food overcome their bad service?

We just had dinner there this weekend for the first time. The food was great and the service was outstanding. It was my friend's birthday and they had specially printed menus and made a special dessert. I did notice that it was not busy for a Saturday night. Maybe our service was great because of the lack of crowds or maybe the crowds have disappeared because of the bad service. Anyway, we enjoyed ourselves!

Looking for a Pasadena-area bakery for a kid's b-day cake

I have had the cupcakes from Violets on Holly street and they're are great. One of my son's friends had a birthday cake from there (I did not try it) and it was made to look like a roller coaster ride. It was incredible to look at!

Coming to LA/Pasadena (mainly Pasadena), could use some recs

Julienne's is fantastic for breakfast! I have never eaten lunch there but have gotten items to go and their chinese chicken salad and lamb sandwich are delightful.

Village Pizzeria in Pasadena

Does anyone know when the Village Pizzeria on Orange Grove and Los Robles is opening? The "coming soon" sign has been up for months. Also is it the same as the Village Pizzeria on Larchmont?

Where's the non-brain, stomach, tongue mexican food in Pasadena?

Thanks for the ideas. My husband really like carnitas and places like King Taco or La Estrella haven't seemed to have those even if I did ask for b & c. A couple times I did ask if they would make one and they have been whole beans and not refried. In Arizona there are dozens of cheap, drive-thru mexican places like Los Beto's, Nico's, Roberto's with just standard mexican food but I can't seem to find a place here. I will try Lucky Boy's, La Fiesta Grande and Al and Beas. (already tried Tops and Mijares).

Where's the non-brain, stomach, tongue mexican food in Pasadena?

Recently moved to Pasadena and am trying to find local, cheap bean and cheese burritos but everyplace seems to be more "authentic" then I am used to. Any ideas?
