Coming to NOLA for March Madness and eating our way across city

Boiled crawfish is $$$ right now so be prepared. Johnny's is your best bet for real-deal po-boys. It's 3rd generation owned whereas Mahoney's is an $$ newcomer serving good, but faddish po-boys. Lots of places have good gumbo - Desire Oyster Bar has an excellent dark roux gumbo.

Food for 7 days. Tight budget.

You can get amazing food from local grocers and neighborhood restaurants. In the French Quarter, go to Verti Mart store for take-out. All of their food in the deli is great. Or split a Muffuletta sandwich from Central Grocery. Sami's Deli on Elysian Fields also offers a great value. Get the Trout Plate and Mac&Cheese. Merline's on Franklin Ave. has the best Roast Beef po-boy $$ less than the Quarter or Uptown.

Monterey CA suggestions

I'm from New Orleans and will be going to CA for the 1st time. We're spending a couple of days in Monterey and looking for good, not-too-expensive restaurants for dinner. We would like to have local seafood.

NOLA in mid May; spending Sunday outside of town, where to go to eat

Go to Middendorf's at Manchac Pass located midway on I-55 north of New Orleans.

Where can I get gumbo z'herbes all year round?

The Gumbo Shop in the French Quarter usually has it on the menu year round, but especially now because it's Lent. Or try Dooky Chase.
