Lentil soup with sausage and sage

Hi! Just in case you don't remember which recipe you followed.. I thought to send you this one:
It has joined regular rotation for me. I usually stick pretty close to the recipe, but have subbed spinach for kale and added fire-roasted tomatoes in for the crushed tomatoes which it calls for.

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay Thread - March 2013 [OLD]

Big YAY from me, too. I use it frequently, but my favorite use of it is simply dressing arugula with it and drizzle of olive oil, s&p. It's got a very fresh, delicious taste.

Creative anchovy dishes (other than pizza)?

I make a fast, pan pasta sauce with anchovies, jarred red roasted peppers (pureed in mini-chopper), olive oil & garlic. Throw it over some penne, top with my best shaved cheese... YUM!

SF Hound Coming To NYC Jan.8th-14th - Input Needed

Just a few comments.. (from a foodie, personal chef, native New Yorker)
#1 Katz's is a huge lunch... so you might skip breakfast that day, and it pastrami on rye (mustard is on the tables, get lottsa new pickles, don't sit at the tables with waiters..stand on one of the lines at counter and seat yourself, always making sure you slip a bill into the tip cup while carver is looking..assuring a taste and a very hefty sandwich!)...separate lines for fries.. if you feel you need them (big steakfries)
#2 Donut Pub is good (black & white cookies are yum)... But I think it's main draw is that they are open 24 hours..(at least they always have been in the past)
#3 There is NO way you should miss Peter Luger! Wolfgang or Keen's is NOT a sub!

Have a safe, great trip!

Your guilty Holiday Food Pleasure?

Orange /Dark Chocolate,Tin Foiled wrapped Oranges.... that you have to SMACK on a table to break-up the "slices".. They were made by a company called Terry's back in my childhood days. Only during the holiday season. Trader Joe's has one too! YAY! !

Discontinued at Trader Joe's - January thru June 2012 [OLD]

So upset the Mango Chicken Sausages are gone! I always threw them into my freezer for nights I didn't feel like cooking. Great in rice, with pasta or any other "whip together" kind of meal. :(

Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 2nd quarter 2012 [OLD]

I had the Crimson Blossom Green Tea and I have to say Meh to that. It's way to "floral", and smells like a cross between Twizzlers and cough medicine to me. My adult son likes it tho (sorta), but says it made a better iced tea. I don't really taste the licorice root. I'm curious to know how others like it.

What NYC food item do you send to 75 people from out of town - other than bagels?

I'm not sure what your budget is, but the first thought of something my California relatives would want me to send is ANYTHING from Katz's Deli on East Houston St. They are pricey, but definitely worth it! They have the best taste of New York that can be shipped anywhere. I would think the knishes and hot dogs might travel well :)

Where to buy boneless lamb shoulder?

They sell lamb shoulder in Fairway. I saw it at the Harlem store last week. Be prepared to spend 10 dollars a pound for it.
