Cocktails with a view somewhere between Civic Center and the Richmond?
Thanks all! We had a truly magical night and you all played a part in it. Everyone was wowed by the spectacular views at the Cliff House. And, though it was busy, we even managed to score a table for all 6 of us without a wait. The cocktails weren't particularly noteworthy, but the view and ambiance were more important to my parents anyway.
As predicted, we had a great meal at Aziza. We ordered the tasting menu which was served unlike any other tasting menu I've ever had. Instead of each diner receiving identical dishes, for many of the courses we were each served different dishes. It worked well for our family--we inevitably end up sharing all our dishes wherever we eat--and a lot of plate passing was involved. It was a fun and sweet way to celebrate their anniversary.
Thanks again!

You all are the best! Thank you so much for these great suggestions. I'll be sure to report back!
The Cliff House sounds perfect. Out of curiosity, what do you think about the Top of the Mark? Is it a terrible tourist trap? Or might it be worth looking into?

I had lunch there last Thursday and was thoroughly unimpressed. My friend and I split the chopped salad and the Spanish shellfish stew. The chopped salad was overdressed and soggy. The smoked mozarella squares were huge and overpowered (and outnumbered) the rest of the ingredients in the salad. The shellfish stew was both bland and over salted. Maybe I should try them again for dinner, but I won't be returning for lunch.

Hello all! Long time reader, first time commenter.
My parents are coming to town this weekend and we're taking them to Aziza (thanks to this board's recommendations) in the Richmond for an anniversary dinner Sunday night. Problem is, our reservation isn't until 7:45pm and we're meeting them in the Civic Center/Tenderloin area at 6pm. Do you all have any recommendations for a great place to get cocktails somewhere reasonably convenient between those two locations. I'm looking for someplace with a great view and quiet ambiance.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Long Beach & beyond, please help!
I hope you enjoy your stay in Long Beach. I just moved here after 15 years in New York and am still getting to know the area, but we love the Coffee Cup Cafe, 3734 E 4th St, Long Beach, CA 90814, (562) 433-3292 for breakfast. We bring guests here often and everyone loves it. It's not a high end brunch place by any means (no frisee salads here), but the baja breakfast burrito with veggie chorizo and a side of chile verde is truly transcendant. There can be a long line, but it moves relatively quickly. The service is some of the best I've ever had anywhere, and the crowd is quintessential Long Beach: it's diverse in every sense of the word (something I didn't see much of at brunch spots in New York). It's definitely a must!
Tasty restaurant near 37th St & 10th?
Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. We ended up going to West Bank Cafe and it was perfect. Very comfortable booth seating; plenty of space between the tables; friendly, unpretentious service; and yummy food. Thanks for the tip, RGR. Not necessarily destination worthy, but a great theater district restaurant.
Tasty restaurant near 37th St & 10th?
Hello hounds:
I'm looking for a solid, tasty resturant near 37th Street & 10th and 9th Avenues. Because we hope to dine there tomorrow, hopefully it won't require reservations (we'll be going early-ish at around 6). Type of food doesn't matter, though entres would ideally be under $25. Most important, however, is that it's good and can seat a party of five.
Thanks!

I just made the Double Chocolate Layer Cake for a friend's birthday. It fed the whole crowd (20 ppl) and was delicious!

Balthazar substitute?
Thanks for the suggestions! I've never been too impressed with Bar Tabac or Belleville and am definitely going for a place that can provide the same (or better) caliber of food as Balthazar--don't necessarily need a bistro. I'm thinking maybe Red Cat? Thoughts?
Balthazar substitute?
My SO and want to go to a special dinner tonight. We love Balthazar, but have been there a bunch. Can anyone recommend a restaurant that offers similar quality food, preferably south of 14th St or in Brooklyn? No Pastis, though; I've never been that impressed with its food.
Thanks in advance!
Great San Diego Restaurant for Engagement Dinner Celebration?
Thanks so much for getting back to me... I'm not sure where they live, sorry, but I am sure that they'd be willing to drive. Also, Alice Q's post reminded me that they went to Oceanaire the night they got engaged. Thanks!
Great San Diego Restaurant for Engagement Dinner Celebration?
Hi all! I am a New York chowhound but my best friend lives in San Diego. She just got engaged and I'd love to send her an engagement present of a gift certificate to a wonderful San Diego restaurant. Ideally, I'd like to spend no more than $100. My bf and her fiance eat and enjoy all types of cuisine. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!

Delicious authentic Mexican food near Walpole/Keene NH?
This might be a long shot, but I'm getting married next August and would love to have a Mexican-themed rehearsal dinner (fiance and I have both spent lots of time in Mexico). Does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants/chefs/caterers who might be able to pull that off? We're getting married in Walpole, NH.
Thanks in advance!
Weekday brunch in the Park Slope/Prospect Heights area?
A dear friend is visiting from out of town and I'd love to take her out to brunch in the nabe. Alas, she'll only be here for one day, Friday. Does anyone have suggestions about restaurants that serve weekday brunches?
Catering a Wedding in Southern NH?
I am getting married in Walpole NH in August 2007 and am in the process of trying to track down a good caterer too. One of the places that I'm excited about is: http://www.vtharvestmoon.com/. They come highly recommended, though I've yet to taste their food or receive a sample menu. Their website sure is pretty though.
Delicious New Hampshire BBQ?/Caterer Recs?
Excellent, thanks so much Bri. You've been really helpful.
Delicious New Hampshire BBQ?/Caterer Recs?
Thanks so much for the leads! I'll certainly look into them. Re: Top of the Hill, we actually stopped there for ribs right after we got engaged, but when we called a couple weeks ago the message said that due to a "devastating fire" they'd closed. Have you heard anything about this?
Delicious New Hampshire BBQ?/Caterer Recs?
Hello all -
I live in Brooklyn but will be getting married in Walpole, New Hampshire next summer. I'd love to have a scrumptious bbq (complete with ribs, delicious salads with fresh herbs, etc) for my reception dinner. Any suggestions of places and/or caterers that you think would be up to the task?
Ribs aside, any other recommendations for yummy caterers in the Walpole area? I'm looking for caterer who puts a high premium on farm fresh and local ingredients.

What Are Your Favorite BBQ/Potluck/Outdoor Party Dishes?
We're having our annual backyard bbq picnic blowout and I'm looking for new suggestions about dishes to prepare. I always make the same assortment of tabouleh, pasta, and potato salads, but I'm craving new and fresh ideas for this year's extra special celebration (we're celebrating our recent engagement as well!). Any yummy drink suggestions are also welcomed. We do not have any dietary restrictions.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Identity Theft? My Chow is not me!
I am looking at my myChow page (718eater), however, it lists a post written by someone else and it did (before I deleted it) list a profile of someone else. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Identity Theft? My Chow is not me!
I checked out My Chow and found a number of confusing things. First, there were messages listed as written by me which were not actually written by me. Second, there was an extensive profile that was not written by me. Now, it would be one thing if someone simply shared a username with me--but it's my understanding that one would need to enter my email address as well as my username to post using my username. How do I make sure that My Chow is really me?
Thanks!
How do I go back to the result list for a search?
Thanks, Melanie. I saw that after I had already posted. Let's hope they clear up the problem soon!
How do I go back to the result list for a search?
Though I'm thoroughly enjoying the new and improved chowhound search function, I am having trouble returning to the results list once I've clicked on an item. Every time I press the "back" button I end up at a warning page. Is there any way to improve this function so that I don't have to re-search after each time I click a result?
