Anniversary Dinner - Mas or Eleven Madison Park?

Oddly, Mas is really not that much less expensive.

Anniversary Dinner - Mas or Eleven Madison Park?

I'm delighted to hear that because in the pictures the food looks so austere and the space seems almost chilly.

Anniversary Dinner - Mas or Eleven Madison Park?

I have reservations at both and I CANNOT DECIDE! I am driving myself crazy with my see-sawing. So please decide for me. I worry that EMP might be too stuffy, but then I worry that the food at Mas just won't live up to EMP's (I have never been to either). Help me!

FAB Atlanta report

I agree with kgirl. I am upset that FAB is so huge - to me, that equates a drop in quality. How can they serve 300 people great meals? I wish more Atlanta restaurants were intimate and personal. So tired of the huge thing.

Atlanta: downtown and East Atlanta

I love the Earl in East Atlanta - their burgers are, I think, the best in town. And if you're not in the mood, you can opt for the delicious black bean burger. And get the onion rings. Mmmmmmm. If you hate smokers, go in the off hours. The ONLY other decent place in East Atlanta is Casita La Cantina. DO NOT go to Crave or Graveyard Tavern.

Downtown: Fleur Des Lis is a great french bistro - very tiny, new york-y feeling.

ATL downtown suggestions for PDX lab

I think Les Fleurs De Lis is wonderful -- very authentic french bistro style, small menu - but great dishes, and right in the heart of downtown. I think it's a nice change from most of the options downtown - which tend to be huge chains.

Best online source for great coffee?

This is all REALLY helpful! I am going to check out several on this list. By the way, I just saw that you can get a coffee subscription from Dunkin' Donuts! I'm not going to do it, but I know people who SWEAR by that coffee.

Thanks so much!

Best online source for great coffee?

I'd love to have a monthly delivery of delicious coffee -- I've grown weary of the over-priced and/or untasty options in the grocery store and am too lazy to visit the same coffee shops frequently to get a pound or two. Anyone have a great resource online for delivery? Many thanks!

Tell me about Atlanta restaurants and destinations, based on where I'll be?

Hey there Big Bad,

Congrats on your ticket! I like Tom Waits too. The Tabernacle is right in downtown Atlanta.

Are you going to have a car? That will make a difference in some of your choices. You should stop by the Varisty - it is within walking distance (but that walk would be a "not-much-fun" walk)...it happens to have a ridiculously enormous parking lot, so you could drive like everyone else in Atlanta.

There's a great french bistro downtown - Les Fleurs de Lys. While not cheap, it really does have a delightful authentic french feel and excellent food. It's also in a beautiful old building.

My other favorite restaurant in the area is a thai restaurant called Spoon. They have some awesome curry dishes there.

Good bakeries with cupcakes, cookies, etc in ATL?

Jessica Sophia -

I moved here from Brooklyn too! We've been here a little over a year. It's definitely a tough adjustment from the joys of New York - I still miss all the options I had within walking distance. But I find there are lots of wonderful things that make up for all you're missing, like the trees, the priorities, the price, and the peace.

They ARE opening an organic market in Cabbagetown - in the old Little's Grocery Store. That will be a welcome addition to an area that really needs some kind of grocery store.

I like the Zocalo on Boulevard for a cheap and tasty dinner. I think I'm in the minority, though. I really like the Al Pastor taco. Has anyone been to the authentic taqueria on Boulevard yet (just a little south of Zocalo and on the opposite side)?

Sorry to get so far off-topic. Here's my gratuitious opinion: I like the treats at Star Provisions too. You can get a nice mini-cupcake for 75 cents.

Good bakeries with cupcakes, cookies, etc in ATL?

I live on the same side of the park as you will. We love it over here! We walk sometimes to the Grant Park "Village", but let me tell you, Dakota Blue is not worth the trip. It could be such a cool space, but needs some serious sprucing up - please no flourescent overhead lights during dinner! The people that work there are nice enough, but I always secretly hope for new ownership....

ANYWAY, Ria's Bluebird for breakfast is wonderful, and Carroll Street Cafe in Cabbagetown can be really nice and is only a few doors down from Agave. I hope there will be more restaurants in the near future on Memorial Street. There is quite a bit of proposed development there.

Little Azio has the most amazing margherita pizza.

Welcome to the neighborhood!
