Eats before seeing the Groundlings

Hmm... the lounge looks good. The more I think about it, I like the idea of a bunch of different little dishes with lots of drinks. I'm a little nervous that the dinner will be awkward with this couple. We don't know them that well....

Oops, sorry. 7307 Melrose. And to clarify some more, I don't want it to be too stuffy. More of a place you can hang out for a while. Thanks!

Eats before seeing the Groundlings

Hi everyone,
I'm going to see the Groundlings tonight for their 10pm show. I have some visitors in town that are a couple. I'm looking to take them somewhere that is fun and hip somewhere near the show (walking distance...if possible). They aren't super adventurous with food, so I would say Italian, New American, or something else basic, but nicely done. I'm looking for a price of about mid $20s for entrees or less.

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!!

4th of July in Santa Monica

I just called and found out that Cha Cha Chicken is closing at 3pm today. So sad. It sounds really good.

Cha Cha Chicken sounds good. I'm not married to burgers/dogs, atmosphere is the most important. I think we're going to stay in the SM area because we are taking a bus from Westwood. We don't want to mess with driving tonight. Maybe there's a bus to Venice???

4th of July in Santa Monica

Hi everyone -
My boyfriend and I are thinking of spending this evening in Santa Monica.

What I want to do...and I hope this is possible....is to head down there in the early evening and eat at a reasonably priced bbq/burger/hot dog place. We don't need the best burger in Santa Monica or anything, but I'm looking for a nice beachy, relaxed atmosphere. I basically want a burger joint that is casual, but serves beer.

The second part of our night, I would like to find a nice bar with an outside patio with a view of fireworks. This place can be upscale or downscale, I'm not too particular on the price. If a view is impossible, somewhere on the beach would suffice.

Oh and we're not going to be driving, so if there are places like this close to each other, that is our preference. We're from Boston so we're not averse to walking a mile or two, though.

I appreciate any suggestions. I'm pretty overwhelmed in my attempt to find places on my own. Thanks!!

Starbucks Clover Coffee and Flat Patties Chicken Sandwich

It's funny, I just moved to LA a couple months ago from Boston (I miss Boston, so I can't help checking up on the Boston boards) and I had In N' Out for the first time. For the burger I immediately thought, 'this is just like Flat Patties in Harvard Square' (which is a good thing). However, I thought the fries were terrible. They had no crunch to them. I think the Flat Patties fries are far superior and very different. So I don't really get the In N' Out obsession here....maybe you have to have grown up on it???

Looking for excellent restaurant on Westside

From what I've heard, I should be filling up on ice cream, too. I never understood why warmer climates than Boston don't take ice cream as seriously as we do in the Northeast.

Looking for excellent restaurant on Westside

Hi, I am moving to the Westwood area from Boston in a couple weeks. I've been to visit a few times last year, so I've eaten at a couple different places in the area. Here's the thing, while I've found great breakfast places and sushi places, I haven't been able to find a good mid-priced place ($15-$30 entrees) for dinner in the area (westside). With so many options it's hard to choose. And the couple times my boyfriend and I chose, we weren't that impressed. I know that LA must have tons and tons of great restaurants....I just need a little help narrowing down the choices. I'm not looking for a place that specializes in a certain country (Indian, Korean, etc.). I'm looking more for a place that you might call 'new american', I guess.

If anyone out there is also a Boston/Cambridge transplant...one of my favorites in Boston is East Coast Grill.

Any advice is appreciated.

Stella

Farmer's Markets

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know about farmer's markets that happen on Sundays in Boston/Cambridge/Somerville?
