Scarborough Gems

We had a delicious lunch at the Armenian Kitchen. The prices are so reasonable and the food is great. I had the veggie combo plate and also an order of delicious fries. My husband had the New York steak with rice and salad for $11.99 and he said it was very good.Pleasant place, nothing fancy but good fresh tasty food.

Faley Restaurant on Overlea

Sorry my mistake with the proper name.I have the menu and just found it. It is called Bombay chicken and it is small, thin pieces coated with a pink -red spice which tasted like tandoori to me.Also it was dry [no sauce] and very spicy.

Faley Restaurant on Overlea

I finally tried Faley a few weeks ago and it was very good. I was surprised at how small the dining area is but I guess they do a lot of takeout.
The chicken fried rice was good and I ordered the Chili chicken, mixed vegetables and a spicy beef dish. They sent out instead of the Chili chicken,
Tandoori chicken. We were starving so I didn't send it back as it was good so we ate it. Their portions are very generous so we had chicken and the veggie dish leftover which we took home. I ordered another rice dish and then Chili chicken which was more than enough for dinner the next night and a few lunches for my husband. All this for under $55.
What I especially liked is that the dishes marked hot were very hotly spiced.
Lots of flavour, friendly service, generous portions and priced right. We'll be back. Forgot to mention the spring rolls were decent too, except for the crummy packaged plum sauce served with it..

2015 RESTAURANT Closings in Toronto? To June 30...

Wlaking up just a few blocks from Yonge and Eg. I see Jeds [not surprised] has closed. Also Mai Thai [ I liked that place] is a different Thai restaurant and Caffe Latte has closed which I am really sad to see. They were really nice people and made a good latte.Gourmet Burger has been mentioned and Centro's new place also mentioned.Wow this is in just 4 blocks, not good.

Help

Thanks Juno and everyone else that took the time with suggestions.
Last night I saw on the news the subway will be closed from Bloor to Lawrence the weekend of Sept. 6-7.Nice!
So there goes anything above Lawrence or across York Mills..lol
I did go into Stacks yesterday to check it out before I knew about the TTC closure and thinking maybe we could sit upstairs but they only open it at night. Plus it was way too noisy. The manager and I could hardly hold the conversation shouting over the noise at lunch.
Don't laugh but I think it may end up being Anthony's at Don Mills and Lawrence.
Free parking, easy to get down from the 401,it is sort of central without being too busy.
It is ok for brunch not great but I have had worse, lol and I know they will look after us well there.Plus no blasting music !!! We can get up and move around there and they won't rush out out.
The priority is really about our group meeting and being able to chat. I put up the menu from Anthonys and it is fine with them. Although it looks better than it really is, it will have to do.lol
Thanks everyone for your help, it is much appreciated.

Help

I need some input if any one could make a few suggestions?
I offered to host a get together for several women[could be 6 to 15 ,don't have the numbers yet] that only know each other on a forum. We decided to have a lunch or brunch on a weekend to meet.Seeing that some come from the east and west of Toronto I want to keep it central for those driving or taking the TTC.As usual parking would be an issue.
Something moderately priced ,like under $20 before tip and tax. They are mostly over 50 so something without blasting music and somewhere where we would be able to have seating that we could all move around to converse I'm thinking to stay away from Yonge and Eg. because of the mess of traffic there. Also nothing south of that either. So Yonge and Lawrence,York Mills. Don Mills and York Mills .
I doubt that Asian would be good.
I have not been to the Abbot Pub n. of Lawrence on Yonge but I've heard it is ok.
any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Salad ideas for a crowd?

What about a couscous salad?

Couscous, Chickpea and Cranberry Salad <print-small-icon.png>
This is a beautiful salad to serve as part of a buffet meal. The sweet orange dressing goes so well with the dried cranberries, chickpeas and basil. Always have a container of orange juice concentrate on hand in the freezer for cooking and baking purposes; you can remove the amount needed while still frozen. **addition of sliced grilled chicken breast is very good!
1 cup chicken stock 1 Tbsp olive oil
1 cup couscous 2 Tbsp orange juice concentrate
3/4 cup canned chickpeas, rinsed/drained 2 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tsp grated orange rind 1/3 cup dried cranberries
3 Tbsp liquid honey 1/4 cup chopped green onion
1 tsp minced fresh garlic 1/4 cup diced red bell pepper
1/8 cup chopped basil or parsely

Bring the stock to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from the heat. Stir in the couscous, cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl, fluff with a fork and cool.
Stir the chickpeas, cranberries, green onions, red peppers and basil or parsley into the cooled couscous.
To make the dressing, whisk the olive oil, orange juice concentrate, lemon juice, orange rind, honey and garlic in a small bowl. Pour over the couscous mixture and toss to coat.
