Rachel's Corned Beef Brisket

also, you should tell them about that 190 F thing, maybe refer them to this post?

from doing some googling, apparently there is no "Rachel", it's a produced by St. Helen's Meat Packers based out of Toronto.. Their contact page is here

http://www.sthelensmeat.com/english/c...

Curious what they would say about it

But how are you checking for 185F when its sealed inside the bag? Unless you are puncturing the bag, but then the bag will fill with water..

I wish they would bring the Korean BBQ Pork Jerky and Johnny's Garlic Spread to any of the Peel Region stores

Oakville Favourites

The service was beyond bad when I was there, food was expensive and not memorable in the least. I've had a better wood fired neapolitan pizza in Halifax for Gods sake.. All I remember was high prices for average food, combined with a server who wouldn't lay off upselling and when we didn't go for it, was all downhill from there. Even the tiramisu (served out of a tiny mason jar?) was terrible. The Mrs. had a wild mushroom pizza and that was pretty good I guess, best out of a bad night

You liked 7 Enoteca that much?? We went once and had horrendous service, I will spare you the details - food was okay. What do you order there that keeps you returning?

I've had this a bunch of times, you can boil it in the bag as well. It's definitely not tough, it shreds apart under the weight of the knife almost.. Something went wrong, for certain

the fresh imported pasta (Perline) filled with parm is fantastic -- we bought them last year and have been waiting for them to return ever since, they were a hit in this household at least

That stuff was awful -- you really liked it that much? That is one product I'm happy to see gone, good riddance. I guess it has it's fans but it was over the top rich for me. However I hope they replace it with a different flavor or something!

Bought a jar of Earth Balance brand Coconut Peanut butter spread that has a fantastic ingredient list and is absolutely delicious.. the coconut is quite apparent and works great with it, I've had it almost every day on a piece of grain toast for breakfast

it's one of "oprah's favorite things" apparently says google haha

i would definitely buy this again. $5.99 / 750g jar

Question about new rice cooker and minimum rice portions

I was gonna ask about this actually; what kind of ratios are you using for basmati? 1 rice to 1.5 liquid ?

Question about new rice cooker and minimum rice portions

Thank you all for the speedy responses

I am going to try it with one cup. Yes it came included with a plastic measuring cup, I wasn't sure if this was equal to a standard cup or not. In fact overall the manual is very very vague about what exact measurements to use so I'm sure there is a learning curve involved here, especially with basmati!

Thanks again folks, going to try it out now

Question about new rice cooker and minimum rice portions

Hey folks, I bought a rice cooker at Costco today, it's a 10 Quart "Tiger" brand that looks great and was a great price.

Was just about to use it when the instruction manual is saying the minimum amount of rice you can use is 2 CUPS ? 2 cups is a gigantic amount of uncooked rice, way too much for 2 people. What gives?

Can I ignore this warning and just use appropriate portions with 1 cup of uncooked rice? Or is something catastrophic going to happen, like burned or improperly cooked rice?

What is the reasoning behind setting such a high minimum amount of rice?

Just curious if anyone could give any insight on this, because it's going back to Costco if there is no other way around the 2 cups minimum

Thanks for your time all!

Caplansky's Deli

Yeah I used to like Peter's years ago but since that time I've done a lot of sampling throughout Montreal and just in general.. They just use the factory plain Lester's meat that's right

My favorite in Toronto was always Goldin's, by a landslide, but supposedly it had consistency problems with other people and I have no idea if they are still around

By the way there is a good product available at Costco, Rachel's Brisket, good stuff that is readily available

Caplansky's Deli

Wow, this sounds amazing, we go to MTL several times a year so am absolutely going to try this, thanks for the tip!

We are very familiar with both Smoke Meat Pete's and the Main! looking forward to comparing. A buddy of mine also swears I have to try the "smoked meat spaghetti" at Smoke Meat Pete's sometime but I can't bring myself to not order the sandwich

On a side note, watch out for the damn automated speedtrap cameras near the exit to smoke meat pete's - i got a photographic speeding ticket in the mail 2 weeks after we got home to Ontario! Bastards.. was still worth it!

Caplansky's Deli

Neither of them seemed like anything out of the ordinary on my visits; aren't they just serving the generic Lester's products? They always have that processed look to the meat, the sort of flabby rubbery appearance that doesn't look like it came off a real piece of brisket

I think the box says like "best butters" on it or something?

Bars with Cheval Blanc (qc) beer

Yeah it looks like the way to go would be either buying 12 at a time or even a 24.. The 6 pack is 13.99 yet the 12 is only 23.95, and the 24 is only 44.95

Still nothing like MTL prices but considerably better than $14 for 6

Whaaaat? When? How long ago?

edit: wow! I just searched their website and you're right - although distribution seems sparse. Not a single location here in Brampton has it, but regardless that is great to know.. This must be a recent change

Thanks for the heads up!

Wish there was a place to purchase it for bringing home, it's also a favorite of mine every time I'm in Montreal

Apparently LCBO used to have it then just suddenly stopped carrying it.. Typical bozos

I wish I could find the original post, but someone at some point was raving about a a box of mixed pastries that were 100% unbaked, and therefore needed full time overnight for proofing before baking. Definitely wouldn't be the ones that only took 30 minutes..

Basically you'd let them do their thing overnight then wake up in the morning and bake them off for a delicious breakfast

And I don't think they were just croissants but rather mixed pastries
