Just wanted to say thanks. Estia was perfect. In her words, "perfect, absolutely perfect!" so I can't thank you all enough.

Thank you! And he proved me wrong just two minutes ago, eating "white" cheese. I think it must just be fairly mild.

Thank you the tips - I think the picnic on the train might be just the thing. It would certainly help with my anxiety about getting back to the train station in time. (We are on the 8:00 p.m. (20:00) train)

One day in Paris (with kids)

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered a million times, but my searches didn't give me quite what I needed. I'm afraid I need a fair amount of hand holding!

We have a one day trip to Paris from London on the Eurostar. We're planning a Griswold/European Vacation speed tour of the city and fully understand that is not an ideal way to do things.

We'll need a lunch near the Eiffel Tower and an early (5:30ish) dinner near the Louvre. Would be great if recommendations were within walking distance.

We have 2 adventurous eaters and 2 not-so, with one being fairly picky (8 year old boy - loves cheese, cheese, and cheese, but it must be orange. God help us all. He will eat oysters, mussels and blue crab, so he is branching out, but still likes everything "plain".)

Any suggestions are most appreciated. Oh - and we're going mid-week in mid-March.

Thanks! I wish I knew the food preferences of the group, but unfortunately - except for my boss - I don't even know their names. My least favorite way to plan things!
I'd like to stay within walking distance, just to ease things. I used to live 4 blocks from there, but it has been a while.

Sadly, I'm going to guess BYOB isn't okay. I'd like to keep entrees under $40 per person. Thanks!

My boss has asked me to make reservations for her and her colleagues at a conference in Feb. near the 12th & Market Marriott. I lived in Philly ten years ago (12? yeesh, time flies) and often reminisce about the restaurants. That being said, she wants a place that isn't "too loud", takes reservations and isn't too expensive. That takes off most of my favorites.

I loved Tequila's when we were there, but I was also a lot younger and went with big crowds. Also loved Vetri, but I think that's going to be priced out.

What recommendations would you have? To her credit, I offered Mccormick and Schmick's and she said she'd prefer something local.

Groups will be 4 one night and 5 another, so that's not too hard (so glad it's not 20 people).

Where to eat in America?

For Memphis, I'd recommend Gus' Fried Chicken, Central BBQ, Rendezvous BBQ (more of an experience), and Soul Fish Cafe in Cooper Young.

Gus' - http://www.frommers.com/destinations/memphis/D54150.html
Central - http://www.cbqmemphis.com/
Rendezvous - http://www.hogsfly.com/VisitUs.php
Soul Fish - http://www.soulfishcafe.com/

Don't forget to visit Sun Studios while you're here. Very cool - and inexpensive - tour compared to others.

Mr. B's (and more) with kids?

Wanted to thank everyone. We just returned from an amazing trip. LOVED the food at Dick & Jenny's - would like to go back right now. The kids were more than welcomed at Mr. Bs and the BBQ Shrimp met all expectations (the kids also loved to see Mommy in a bib). My daughter was given beads and a flower by ladies at a nearby table, so she was in heaven. Commander's Palace jazz brunch was also unforgettable, especially with my daughter leading the second line.

Sadly, we missed Willie Mae's this time. Oh well - we'll just have to go back soon.

Thank y'all for all of the input!

Mr. B's (and more) with kids?

We're coming down in a couple of weeks and will be bringing 5 year old twins. They do well in restaurants (because Mom and Dad like to eat), but they aren't yet particularly adventurous eaters. We have plans for Dick and Jenny's, jazz brunch at Commander's Palace, and are toying with a couple of others. It's a quick trip, but hopefully the first of many.

I'd like to go to Mr. B's (I'm feeling compelled to eat the BBQ shrimp), but am wondering about the kids. Would they be welcome at dinner? We'd go early-ish - maybe 6:30, but it would be a Saturday night. I'm sure they don't offer a kids' menu, but do they fix boring, kids' food on request?

Also curious about experiences at American Sector - I want to hit a John Besh restaurant for my uber-fan husband.

Oh - and we'll have to hit Willie Mae's, too. Our last trip down was a rebuilding trip and we worked on the restaurant. Can't wait to eat there.

I'd love any other ideas. And I don't know why, but my husband is not excited about the Mandina's menu, so we'll have to pass on that this time.

Thanks for any advice.

Disappointing food trip to NOLA (very long review)

And case in point.... thanks to all. Planning a trip for March and found all comments (including the new ones) exceedingly helpful. Thank you! Can't wait for my arms to be covered in BBQ shrimp sauce. Glad I stumbled across this thread.
