Milk-Braised Pork Shoulder Ragu with Fresh Fettuccine

I wonder if a pressure cooker would make the same quality (tender) pork in half the time?

Julia Child's Birthday Dinner

Cooking for Julia in August is a challenge because the heat of August in Texas is stifling, heating up the house makes my husband miserable, and many of the recipes require long periods of stove or oven cooking.

So, this year, 2013, I'm having a small kitchen dinner and trying for a menu that won't heat up the house:
Baked Tomatoes (on the grill)
Tournedos (4 minutes per side, on the stove)
Ratatouille (grill outside, then pressure cook, quick,stove again)
Fried potatoes (outside in electric skillet)
Braised kale (in a skillet on the grill)
She doesn't mention shishito peppers, but they are everywhere in CSA baskets right now, so I'm including them, grilled alongside the tomatoes.

Palmiers

Made these as a savory snack for a work meeting and used pesto and grated Parmesan instead of sugar and cinnamon. Got the recipe from Moosewood Cooks at Home. They are HUGE, so I might, today, cut the sheet in half to make them more bite-sized.

Chicken Empanadas

Used the dough recipe for little chicken pot pie empanadas to use up the leftover Christmas capon and gravy. So super delicious, though the gravy leaked. I'm making them again today and this time will strain the gravy out of the filling, then use the gravy as a sauce to dip the pies in.
I turned to Chow because my ATK fool proof pie dough recipe called for vodka, which I didn't have and it was Sunday so I couldn't go out and buy any. I'm glad I found this one as I ALWAYS have white wine handy.

Côte d'Azur Cure-All Soup

This is a yummy, super-easy soup to make. I might, next time, blend the garlic into the soup before adding the egg, and float a big crouton on top with gruyere melted on it.
