Scup's in the Harbor--a Fantastic Find!

Being an East Boston resident my visit to Scup's was long overdue! But on Friday I finally made the trip, well we actually walked and it was great. And the best part is that the outdoor dining allowed for dogs so my boyfriend and I along with our dog enjoyed a terrific Friday night dinner outdoors. We started with feta stuffed tomatoes that were roasted or broiled in the oven that were served with crostinis and were really delicious. For our meals we each had a version of their BLTs since hearing all the hype there was no way we could go there without trying them. He had a chicken salad club and I had their traditional BLT (or not so traditional) since it was topped with an awesome Cabot cheddar cheese and pesto. We both loved our meals and got a brownie to go that we enjoyed later that evening.

As an aside they had a nice beer selection--I am a big fan of Allagash White and they had it in the bottle so that was a very pleasant surprise!

I will also say that the owners could not have been nicer and more welcoming. When we were finishing up another couple sat at our table and chatted with us for a few minutes as well. It really felt like a community and I was very happy to be a part of it, not to mention totally satisfied and stuffed!

Heading to Cavendish, VT Any suggestions for dining and activities

We went t Singleton's store. It was great and I appreciate the suggestion!!

I am with you on the views from Piers Park. I have been living in East Boston for about 9 years now and whenever I bring people to the park the just can't believe the views!

Stephanie's on Newbury has some great outdoor dining in Boston. It is on Newbury Street so a bit trendy but definitely a see and be seen kind of place with really good food and the patio dining is unbeatable.

Have you ever been to the Castle Hill Resort? Or to the restaurant there? We made a reservation for dinner and don't know much about it.

Best Veggie Burger in Boston

I really like the veggie burger at the Independent in Union Square, Somerville. They make it from scratch and always hits the spot. I get it with a garlic aioli and it is very good. (also a good idea, switch out the fries for the sauted brussel sprouts.)

Lunch in Boston on Friday afternoon...suggestions please.

One of my favorite Red Sox games ever started with an afternoon of patio dining at Stephanie's on Newbury. It is sort of trendy but the location is perfect for game day. I had a great salad with like 6 giant fresh grilled shrimp and my friend had the burger and it was cooked perfectly. It was one of those beautiful spring days so the patio was packed and we enjoyed some pre-game adult beverages in style and sunshine before we went to the game. And the Sox won!

THE VERY BEST chilaquiles

I would go with Angela's in East Boston...Had them yesterday and they were terrific!

Well I finally did it last night...I went to Lord Hobo

Well I finally did it last night....I went to Lord Hobo. I have been wanting to try it for some time but wasn't up experiencing it for the first time with a Friday or Saturday night crowd, so Wednesday night it was.

My first thought is that is really still feels a lot like B-side although new bartenders--Thank God we can still see Joe at Highland Kitchen. I love that guy!

Our waitress was very nice and did a stellar job describing the beers when I was having trouble making a choice. She even brought me a few tastes to help in my decision. My one complaint is that although the beer list is extensive the bottles are rather pricey. I have no problem spending $12 for a bottle but I hesitate on $30. It would be great if they had some more options in the lower -mid price range. I do agree that their selection on tap is impressive and tried 2 beers, the Jolly Pumpkin and Pretty Things White Rabbit--both were very good. My boyfriend started off with one of their specialty drinks, the Chipotle Chocolate Martini (And for the record he got it in a highball glass!) We both felt it was a bit too milky and didn't have much flavor.

As for the food we started with their arugula salad with lardons and humboldt fog goat cheese and the combination of flavors was delicious. I needed the roughage from the salad to prepare me for my meal, which was the cheese and charcuterie plate. I really enjoyed it although I would have preferred a different bread. A smaller french baguette like bread would have been a better choice, texture wise--but I still did a great job cleaning my plate! The plate had 3 cheeses and 3 charcuterie. I enjoyed them all but the head cheese which you could pair with a marinated carrot and sweet pickle, was by far my favorite and made me want to rush over to Chinatown for a Bahn Mi Sandwich.

My boyfriend had the pressed Cuban which was also very tasty and it came with french fries, which were tasty and perfectly salted.

All in all it was a nice meal and I would return. Would love to hear what others think of the place.

Recent Burgers

You are correct--$18 was the price...not a cheap burger but I would say worth the splurge.

Recent Burgers

I had a burger for brunch at the Butcher Shop in the South End and it was delicious!

I also have to say the burger at Stephanie's on Newbury is pretty tasty too. She puts cheddar cheese on it and I love that traditional combination of a great medium rare burger and cheddar!

Anyone Try the Leisure Station Tea Shop in Kendall?

Ya I am going to have to try it--maybe this weekend! Please let me know if you go!

Anyone Try the Leisure Station Tea Shop in Kendall?

I have heard about a new tea shop that just opened in the Kendall Square area and wonder if people have tried it and if so what to you think?

It is called the Leisure Station.

Love their Hummus! And Beer Selection

I am a big fan of a laid back atmosphere and Olde Magoun's fits that bill. Any time I go here I enjoy my meal. I cannot go to Olde Magoun's without ordering their hummus. I just love it--I think they use Sesame oil, I have tried to replicate it at home many times but mine is never as good. They also give you all sorts of veggies to build you own bites. (I am one of those "perfect bite" kind of people and the hummus plate lets you get just that!)

I also really like their pizza--I get cheese with portobello mushrooms. It is simple but again hits the spot every time.

They have an ever changing selection of beers that is sure to please anyone and I feel like the staff is always helpful. It is just a solid go-to restaurant/pub that I recommend checking out.

What brand of salad greens do you buy?

I am wondering what brands of salad greens people like best? Do any seem fresher or tastier than others? Do people find certain brands last longer in the bags or containers?

I also wonder if there are particular brands of salads that chefs like to use?

Angela's Cafe in East Boston

So glad you had a good experience there....They are a great family owned business. I have also been begging them to start having cooking classes! I think it would be fantastic to learn how to make enchiladas, green sauce and pozole!

Angela's Cafe in East Boston

Hi MC Slim--The new look is that that they moved the bar area to the left side of the restaurant so when you walk in you now look at tables. Not a huge difference but I think it gave them a few more seats. Let me know next time you make it over to Eastie I would love to meet you at Angelas!

Angela's Cafe in East Boston

Who out there in Chow-ville has been to Angela's Cafe in East Boston? I am in love with their cactus salad, pozole soup and enchiladas with green sauce. If you are in the greater Boston area or beyond I would highly recommend taking the trip to Eastie!
