JACKSON - Tamales at Bop's Frozen Custard Okay - I know this sounds strange, but my husband and I enjoyed some great tamales at Bop's Frozen Custard on County Line Rd this weekend. My husband, who is half Mexican and was raised in Queens, NY, nearly cried after tasting one. He declared it a cross between the Mexican tamales of his youth and the Jamican Beef Patties you can find on the streets of NYC. We asked the servers where the tameles came from and we were told, "Some guy in north Mississippi makes 'em, and aren't they good?". We only moved to Jackson recently, so maybe these tamales are indicative of all Mississippi tamles...if so, we are psyched! BTW: We only stopped at Bop's b/c I felt I deserved a special treat after braving Sam's during the holiday season - their Snappy Turtle Sundaes are to die for! Bop's does charge for a cup of water, though, and that REALLY irks me. ----- |

I finally tried Eslava's a couple of weeks ago. I really wanted to like it...the owner was super friendly and sent a plate a fried fish to our table (no charge) for my toddler son to snack on. That being said, my mother-in-law's chicken was so salty is was nearly inedible. The food my husband and I ordered was so unremarkbkle that I can't even remember what dishes we tried. |

Anyone tried this place yet? I hear it is co-owned by the owner of Siagon. I'm intrigued... |

Looking for dishes in Birmingham area Chez Lulu rotates gazpacho (both red and white) as the soup du jour in the summer. Both are delcious, but they are served in such tiny tiny cups! ----- |

Moving to Jackson, MS - looking for local food sources Dear Littleman- As for pork...I am looking for anything that is nitrate-free. My husband has gout, and we have to be very careful about the sausage and bacon we buy. |

Los Comprades on the corner of Greensprings and Oxmoor has a sign up: "Breakfast coming soon." Their food is typical of any mexican place in town with 'Speedy Gonzales' as a lunch choice, but I still have high hopes for breakfast. |
