Longing for Italian and Steak in NW CT/Great Barrington area

For Italian, I would recommend two places in Torrington CT, one is Anthony's on North Street, informal, inexpensive and great Pizza as well as Zuppa de pesc. the second is The Venetian in the center on east main. It has been around for a very long time. I suggest the house made-at-the-table Caesar salad and the spagatini. I haven't been to Fiori but have not heard one good word yet

Can anyone confirm rumors of 3 different new restaurants in Great Barrington?

yes, there is a new restaurant on main st in the location where an antique store used to be. It is open now but hasn't had their official opening. I would love to hear any reviews.

Lobster Rolls in the Berkshires?

We are only 2 1/2 hours from the Boston Fish Market. Fresh seafood is possible for any restaurant or market that seeks it out.

Seeking the perfect make-ahead drunk food

Mex is always satisfying and not too rich. How about making chili ahead and then putting together some burittos or nachos.

pepe's "sorry no clams" question

The clams are fresh! I at least appreciate that they only keep as many as they think they need on hand and don't try to pass off old clams because they are afraid to run out. Gee, life is tough!

Connecticut Pizza

Anthony's on North Main St in Torrington is really good thin crust pizza. They have other delicious Italian entrees like zuppa de pesc and homemade gnocchi.

Saturday lunch near Lenox

Great Barrington has many great choices for lunch. There is Baba Louies Pizza and their wonderful organic salads. There is the Coop with their extensive selection of foods prepared there. I recomend the Mediteranian box. There is Bizen excellent Japanese. Bizalion near the Big y plaza is fantastic if you have time. And Martins at the top of Railroad street has all the standards done well reasonably priced.

Fiori in Great Barrington (Ma) Lots of hype - any of it genuine?

I haven't been yet but I have spoken with many who have eaten there. A lot of mixed reviews ranging from average to very good, very expensive drinks, and a very good to not so great antipasto depending on if you like cured meats. People seem least impressed ( this puts it mildly) with the service attitude and specifically the unfriendly hostess situation.

Looking for cheap lobster restaurants

Does not exist, Lobsters are pricey no matter where you buy them. The cheapest way to go is buy your own and cook at home. this would be cheaper than any meal at a restuarant

Who has the best pizza in Berkshire County??

We travel to Torrington CT, 1 hour south of Gt. Barrington and get the best pizza at Anthony's, North main St Torrington...very informal, lots of cozy booths, good beer (peroni on tap, Rufino Chianti in bottles) open Sunday at noon and all afternoon. Yesterday we spilt a fried calamari side, one small pizza with mushrooms and three beers and the tab came to $32 and change...we left $40

Oyster River Tavern in West Haven is open again

I remember the fried clams were too heavily breaded and way too greasy. Your better off heading to Jimmies

Best breakfast??

We were in Cape cod and saw a rating on TV for best breakfasts in the northeast. Grumpy"s of E.Dennis was voted #1 ( I don't know by who). we went there on our way out of town for a late b-fast. Had I not seen the review I would have been merely satisfied, BUT it was supposed to be the best and so I was disappointed. I did not order the eggs benedict and this seemed to be what was flying out of the kitchen to mostly older overweight people. I did have nice scrambled eggs with tasty italaln sausage the choice of potato was home fries or hash browns. I ws informed the hash browns were frozen deep fried patties. (skip that). I went with homefries that were soft, chunky, barely crisp on one side. The marble toast was not really toasted, soft and limp....AND the coffee was on the weak side. My favorite New england breakfast is still Two Sisters, Gloucester MA. Fresh baked breads, great crispy cornbeef hash, excellent coffee, nicely grilled homefries and my friend was thrilled with the eggs bnendict.

Allium-More precious than Wheatleigh

As a resident of the area, I have found Allium to be hit or miss. I belive they thrive because Pearls is now gone and Allium happens to be right next door. I never hear anyone rave about it, its just there where a restaurant needs to be. Last time i was there I had fish. It was good but I would have liked a little more. My husband had duck cassoule and it was awful. I told him to send it back but of course that is easier said than done

THE EAST Great Barrington Ma

We went there once. It was very busy and it took 20 min for someone to come and take our drink order when I looked around and saw a lot of people with empty place settings looking impatient. We gathered our things and said "no Thank-you. I have since heard that his happens a lot

We need WEGMAN'S!!! (And how does it compare to Fairway?)

Beware of something too Big! Wegmans is so big I question the freshness of their products. I worked for a dairy that supplied artisanal cheeses and found most of them in the store old or out of date. What ever happened to "Small is Beautiful". What about eating locally, regionally. You want warehouse prices, go to big box stores and expect warehouse items. For real quality go to small markets and establish a relationship. Couldn't this work in Fairfield?

Romantic Restaurant in Stockbridge, MA area

The Old Inn on the Green in New Marlborough (15 - 20 min away) definitley!!! A beautiful setting with nothing but candle light...excellent food. Beware of the Wheatleigh in Lenox where while the setting is pretty, the prices are ridiculously high and the food just doesn't justify
