Parents in Brooklyn for 8 days
If you're in the WT neighborhood, you might want to stop in for lunch at Brooklyn Commune. There's a BLT on their menu that is beyond delicious. They also serve the best coffee in that area, and the place itself feels very communal, a little taste of the neighborhood.

Went to Bonnie's Grill tonight...are people kidding?
I always thought Bonnie's burgers were lousy. I could never understand why people like them.
lunch near The Jewish Museum
I'll be visiting the Jewish Museum tomorrow (92nd St & 5th Ave.) and looking for a decent, not expensive place for lunch. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!
Went today
I was in the neighborhood and wanted a cheap burger. The place was packed! It's kind of surprising being that the decor is really Johnnie Rocket kitschy. I guess it's okay for kids, but for adults, eh. The burger was okay, and while it comes in several different sizes and with lots of toppings, they'll only cook it medium, medium well and well. I like mine rare to medium rare, so I probably won't go back.

Mark from The Red Cafe in PS--Found!
No liver and onions, but, if you ask Mark, he might consider offering it as a special. I loved the Red Cafe too. I'm so glad to have stumbled on the chef again, and see that he's back dishing out great food.
Mark from The Red Cafe in PS--Found!
Fans of the late great Red Cafe in Park Slope, can find more of chef Mark's great cooking at his recently opened Dubuque on Court Street. It's mostly burgers--but not any burger. This is a great burger: richly flavored, not too big, juicy. The room is serene and comfortable with excellent, not expensive, wine and beer choices. Friendly service too. Go!

Best burger on Smith or Court Streets?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We went to Dubuque and had fabulous burgers. Really like the place. We'll be back.
The perfect BLT
Mangita--I'm in Fort Green all the time, so I'll give the Dino's BLT a try. It sounds great. Where is Dino's?
The perfect BLT
Brooklyn Commune, a newish restaurant that opened in the underserved Windsor Terrace neighborhood, serves the best BLT I've ever had. Everything about is perfection: the grilled white bread with the crunchy edge, not too salty bacon, a smear of avocado, thick slice of ripe tomato and just a touch of tomato jam that gives a hint of sweetness. It's a little greasy, pleasantly salty, crunchy, creamy. A must have for BLT lovers--or anyone on the hunt for a stellar sandwich. Their coffee is very good too.

I'm going to be in the area tonight. Any recommendations appreciated.
I'm turning 30 in two weeks - Bk venue brainstorm?
My sister had a birthday recently at Olea Mediterranean Taverna in Fort Greene. They seated us at one long table and the room was beautiful. The owner was really helpful too, with the menu and wine. The food was great and everyone had a wonderful time. For dessert, I ordered a Lemon Drop cake from Baked in Red Hook. That, too, was terrific.

Korzo
I was there for brunch today. The pirogies were leaden and the rest of the food was underseasoned. I was there once for dinner and had just so-so goulash. Am I ordering the wrong things?

Reasonable but good in Woodstock?
davmar77 I'm so glad you went and enjoyed your meal. Thanks for posting.
Mount Tremper/Woodstock recommendations?
Try Phonecia. There's a place called Brio's that serves wonderful pizza and other fare. Not too expensive. Have not been to the Emerson Inn. Avoid La Duchess Anne. Terrible, overpriced fare. You'll be disappointed.
Reasonable but good in Woodstock?
You're in luck. A new place, can't remember the name, just opened right near Rock City Road. They serve Asian fare with lots of noodle dishes. Nothing is over $10. I was there a couple of weeks ago and the food was pretty good. Ask anyone in the stores and they'll point you to the place. Other than that, the places tend to be overpriced and mediocre in Woodstock.
Nice Dinner in Brooklyn...suggestions please
See my comments about Olea in Fort Greene. It fits your description perfectly.

Fabulous food and a great party at Olea
I arranged a birthday party for my sister at Olea and it was fabulous! The room is elegant yet cozy with a friendly neighborhood feeling. The food could not have been more delicious, the wine was great and reasonably priced and the service was spot on. The dips and crostini to start were really fresh and well seasoned. They serve friend chick peas that are addictive. One of the entrees was a steak. I didn't expect it to be stellar, but boy was I wrong. It was one of the best sirloins I've had in a long time. I recommend this place for a large group--we were 18--or any time. It's really a gem. Go!

Woodstock
I'll be staying in Woodstock from June through July. Where shall I eat? I like everything. Finances are tight, so I'm not too interested in top-dollar places, just good food at reasonable prices. Anything good in Phonecia?
downtown brooklyn lunchtime burger round-up
Union Pacific (I think that's the name) on Smith Street makes a delicious burger and great fries.
Bread & Butter--Yes to that!
I had dinner at this charming spot last evening and it was delightful. The place is elegant yet there's a cozy, comfortable element that makes it relaxing. The fried chicken was great--very moist with a super crunchy coating. Really good cole slaw too. They put down a basket of bread with a wonder, warm biscuit and a piece of corn bread with butter to start as well as bread and butter pickles. All delicious. The butterscotch pudding was great too. I'm going back.
What Brooklyn dinner experience (tomorrow night!) will persuade my wife to move there with me?
I agree with al di la. Cool room, great food. You might consider No. 7 in Fort Greene. The food is inventive, the scene lively and there's a mix of hipsters and others that's very Brooklyn.

new places that serve a good brunch
Can someone recommend a new or newish place (within the past six months) that serves a good brunch? Any cuisine, any Brooklyn neighborhood. Thanks.
dumb restaurant names [Moved from Ontario Board]
Rhythm 'n Booze
For Goodness Steaks
Both unfortunate names.
Dinning near the Bell House-Brooklyn
You're probably right about judging a place on its brunch. I was just so turned off by the nasty hostess and the lousy food that I wouldn't want to return for dinner.
Dinning near the Bell House-Brooklyn
I have to disagree with Bar Tano. While it is close to the Bell House, it's not worth the trip. I had a lousy brunch there with an obnoxious hostess, sub-par food and a cocktail that never should have made its way to my table. I think the OP can do better.
(FOODIE) Teenager's Birthday...........Need a Restaurant!
If you can get to Williamsburg, you might want to give Sea a try. It's a Thai place. The food is cheap and not so great, but the atmosphere is very hipster chic. My daughter had her 15th birthday there and the kids loved it.
AM Thai Chili Basil
this is one of my favorite places to order from. It's not authentic, but their Thai wonton soup is great--very tart and the wontons have delicate wrappers and a nicely gingery filling. I like their curries when they're spicy, too, but beware. If you order them spicy you'll get something between hot and incendiary. I forget what it's called, but the dish with beef and broad noodles is complex and delicious.
Dinner at Kevin's: Red Hook
We went to Kevin's after reading a review in the New York Press that raved about the cioppino. The writer--and you--were/are correct to call it "outstanding." I love their corn and shrimp bisque too.
Where to go for day of ethnic food and fun
Do a search on this board for Atlantic Avenue. You'll find all sorts of information about Middle Eastern restaurants and Sahadi's, a specialty store loaded with fabulous prepared foods, spices, herbs, candy...You could take out a feast and eat in it in your hotel or where ever you're staying.
Picky In-Laws + Thanksgiving 2009 in Brooklyn = Yikes!! Any Ideas?!
Palo Santo is wonderful but maybe not traditional enough for the OP's in-laws.
