Pot roast/beef stew idea

I am not at all a fan of canned soup.
Make a roux, or flour the meat before browning or purée some of the vegetables.

Cooking meat without a grill

I roast a chicken every week and use it for cooked chicken. If I don't have that I poach some thighs( we don't like breasts much.)

Do you use garlic powder?

I just started using it, only in rubs. It works well there.

Seeking Specific Cape Dining Opinions! (mid- Sept. Visit)

I love Ceraldi too. It might be my favorite restaurant. That doesn't change my opinion that twice in a few days would not be a great time.

Saturday breakfast/brunch spots near 95, then lobster roll on Cape

I agree.

Help with husband's birthday dinner menu.

Yes, that happens sometimes but I would assume no meat if I didn't know.

Canned Shrimp - whats your opinion?

My parents had odd eating habits. Not kosher , but no pork. Except bacon.
No shellfish. Except lobster. And tiny shrimp in Mac salad.

Help with husband's birthday dinner menu.

Great idea. In addition grill or roast a huge amount of seasonal vegetables.

Canned Shrimp - whats your opinion?

Nope, Brooklyn Jewish, lol. I eat it about once a year and I love it.
As does everyone I serve it to, actually.

Canned Shrimp - whats your opinion?

It does smell strong.
I use canned shrimp in one nostalgic childhood recipe, macaroni salad.

Balancing a sweeet sauce

Balsamic is sweet as vinegar goes. I would use sherry or herb vinegar.

Discount Grocer Aldi has opened a Pittsfield Store

I was unimpressed.

Our Best Choices (Not fried sfd) Upper Cape: 4 Dinners, 4 Lunches,Mid Sept. M-Fri ?

I like boulangeries pastries and breads but have had two orthree overpriced meh meals there, so I don't go. But others disagree.

I just don't bother to go to Brewster. We are never on the cape for more than two weeks , we prefer the outer cape, and we mostly cook at home, both for economy and because the fish and shell fish are so wonderful. and we also like lobster rolls and fried fish , unlike you.

I know of no Aussie restaurant, in Eastham we like Karoo very much.

I posted on your other thread that I on Ceraldi is a waste twice.

Pearl is very ordinary imo.

Our Best Choices (Not fried sfd) Upper Cape: 4 Dinners, 4 Lunches,Mid Sept. M-Fri ?

We are so outer cape centric that I know nothing about restaurants besides Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and PTown, though I have been to and like Abba.

Shout out for Elizabeth's in Pittsfield, MA

We recently has another wonderful meal at Elizabeth's located in the back end of Pittsfield. Not a great location but consistently excellent food with an Italian bentq, mostly vegetarian with some meat based specials. I had a creamy polenta with a locally sourced roasted vegetable enriched tomato sauce with Berkshires sausage and wonderful wild mushrooms. All entrees come with a family style salad , in a huge bowl for the four of us, and are $22 bucks. Excellent bread , a small but nice and reasonably priced wine list.
Service is casual but attentive, the owner comes by to chat. An unpretentious delight.

I have been to neither, but my point was basically that Ceraldi for two nights is not the best choice.

Does It Really Exist- Celery With Flavor?

Yes, worlds better.

What's your favorite Indian dish to cook at home?

Saag paneer

I wouldn't go to Ceraldi twice in a week although I love it. First, since it is a fixed menu, it may well be the same foods twice, and also it is such an experience, for me once would be better.

I would go to Blackfish the second night.

Substituting 66% chocolate for recommended 55%?

You will not know the difference imho, though I think it will be better.

Caramelized Onions - would like more ways to eat them

Pizza
Sandwiches
Omelettes
Bruschetta
Flatbreads

Williamstown- Best Lunch Spots? and Best ~Rt. 2 Lunch fror Going and Coming?

I agree. We like Elmers fine but wouldn't go out of our way for it.

Williamstown- Best Lunch Spots? and Best ~Rt. 2 Lunch fror Going and Coming?

We live right near south face but don't like it much. Davenport so is gorgeous at foliage time, no better view in Western Ma.

Williamstown- Best Lunch Spots? and Best ~Rt. 2 Lunch fror Going and Coming?

Is davenport so open during foliage? I didn't know that. I think it is a way better choice than Goulds if so.

Ceraldi is the locavore place in Wellfleet , probably as it has two settings. I love Ceraldi.
I don't think the quiche at Boulangerie is particularly good.
Blackfish in Truro is really good.

How are these Cape restaurants?

It is definitely a family place, not fine dining.
