Where's your "regular" spot?

Chicks Wine Bar- A great wine, beer, and cheese selection. As well as the best steak I have had in a long time. Great bartenders, and a very cute, dim atmosphere that never feels crowded.

Southwark- Another place with dim lighting and a cute atmosphere. The servers are a little brisk but friendly and make amazing old fashion cocktails. They have the best selection of Rye Whiskey around. Their food is great as well. Locally sources and they recently added their own smoke room.

Vietnam Palace- A go to place for a pho need. Cheap, friendly service who remembers what we like everytime we go in. Yes, duck and bamboo shoot pho!

Dirty Franks- Always dirty, always busy, always service with a half smile and a half Ill kick your ass attitude. I love this place more than almost any other. People of all walks, nothing pretentious and a lovely $2 dollar shelf of shame *but don't let sheila hear that*.

Dark Drinking Dens

Southwark, 4th and Bainbridge. Amazing drinks, amazing locally sourced food. Husband and Wife owned and the husband is behind the bar with the general manager. You will get classic drinks and the best Manhattan in the city....seriously. Largest Rye Whiskey and Gin selection in the country too.

Grocery/anywhere that sells Argentine Chorizo

D’Angelo Bros in the Italian Market may have what you are looking for. They make many different sausages and I know that they do make morcilla or blood sausage in an Argentinian fashion. Hope it helps.

Fish - fantastic food, but otherwise disappointing

Hmm, I was there last week for my boyfriends birthday. The service and bread was great. They had tremendous wine discriptions and overall enthusiasm for the food. The bread and especially the butter were fantastic as well as all the food (peekytoe crab, scallops, skate, monkfish, blueberry cobbler.)

Bodhi Coffee

I go regularly, their Iced-coffee is like crack. It's cold dripped and set for 24-48 hours, and amazing. Their iced tea is amazing too. Their food is good, they have cupcakes from Bettys speak easy and hummus from zahav and different salads from Healthy Bites. All of the baristas have been pleasant and I go in at least 3-4 times a week.

Trip to from Philadelphia to Portland, Portland to Providence

We may drive in Sunday morning, we were warned about Waterfire by friends who live in the area. We are leaving around noon from Philadelphia to hopefully miss some of the New York area traffic.

As for budgeting, we are not on a very strict budget. on average for two 80-100 maybe. Cheaper is not a problem at all.

New England Vacation

My boyfriend and I are heading to New England the second weekend in August for a weekend away. We are looking for places to eat for any meal. We are thinking of spending Thursday Night, Friday and some of Saturday in Portland, then Providence for Saturday evening and Sunday. And Maybe Narragansett on Monday before heading back to Philadelphia.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Has anyone visited the newly renovated Gino's in Jeffersonville?

Funny I went there on Sunday evening with my boyfriends family. I had not been there before the renovation but his grandparents had. The food was decent but the service was not.

The waitress was friendly enough but very slow. After dinner we waited forever to get the check and then had to wait even longer (to the point of going up front to pay) in order to leave.

Can't get a reservation at Amada, where's the next best place?

I would recommend Tinto over Distrito any day. I find Distrito to be a disgrace.

Dinner around 10-11?

At that point in the night I would just consider eating at the bar. Are you planning to sit down for two hours? The waitress, right or wrong may be annoyed. Anyway, I went to Noble not too long ago and really enjoyed my dinner with friends and pub and kitchen is nice too.

Where to get chihuahua cheese?

You can go to the Italian market and pass washinton ave, any mexican grocery store will have it.

Also, whole foods does sell it but it is a little more expensive.

Center City in April (help, please!)

Like the other poster said, Zahav would be great, but my favorite is Kanella (especially for breakfast). Tria is a good choice I prefer the one in Washington Square rather than the one by your hotel. The restaurant in your hotel does have a great whiskey cocktail.

If you husband is interested in Monks, you may like Eulogy too.

Xochitl is closing...

Xochitl is now more casual. They are trying to make it more user friendly than the previous menu. It is true that they are no longer doing table-side guacamole, to ensure a more uniform product from the kitchen (still sad).

They just opened on Wednesday the 25th and are working through the new menu. It is not the same place at all from when Jimenez was there, now it is almost like mexican tapas, but I think if you go with an open mind you can enjoy.

Need Philly BYOB for 15 people...

If the art museum is still in the city, you should check out L'OCA. I work in a restaurant and we did a staff holiday party there for approximately 20 people (22 bottles of wine). It was a great time with great food.

Favorite Brunch Spots (not hotels) in CC, Main Line, Delco

Fitzwater Cafe (7th and Fitzwater) is great. Its always a little crowded but the prices are fare and the food is great.

Kanella (10th and Spruce) has an amazing brunch. My boyfriend and I often have cravings. I am partial to their Cyprus Breakfast and he loves the Malowa....I think I may have typed that wrong.

Cafe Apamate (16th and South) is small but the food is usually spot on. The only problem with this place is their service is extremely erratic.

Lastly Ants Pants Cafe (22nd and South) bacon stack...thats all I have to say. Their food is always fresh and they have super nice service.

Xochitl is closing...

They will be reopening on the 23rd. Jimenez was to leave earlier but decided to stay so his staff could make money during restaurant week. It is not ideal at all and in fact its doing to be pretty sad?
