The Pantry Restaurant is a good local spot for breakfast. It's at 1820 Cerrillos, just past the El Rey Inn on the way into town - not far from where you are. We've always had good luck there.

Second the Broad Arrow Tavern. Very warm and comfortable. The Lobster stew has always been good when we have been there.

The Trail Dust Steakhouses offer great steaks and a fun atmosphere. There are 2 in the Denver area. They do have a tie policy - if you wear one they will cut it off!

Questions re: Scottsdale, Tucson, and some smaller southwest destinations
Sounds like a great trip. Check out Gil's Thrilling Web site www.nmgastronome.com for some really thorough reviews of restaurants throughout New Mexico. In Taos, the Taos Diner, just north of town has great breakfasts. In Silver City, Diane's is a good dinner choice.
It's not on your agenda, but here's a thought. La Posada in Winslow, Arizona is a wonderful lodging and dining experience. Check out www.laposada.org. Gil has reviewed the Turquoise Room restaurant at La Posada on his web-site.

Midcoast Maine for weeknight locals?
We just returned from another stay in Rockland, and still enjoy the Black Bull Tavern (www.blackbulltavern.com). Nothing fancy, but just a very comfortable, jeans welcome, environment. Same with the Cactus Restaurant opposite the Trade Winds Hotel. We have enjoyed the Waterworks in the past also, but they were closed the entire time we were in town - is something happening there?
Our breakfasts every day at the Brass Compass Cafe were outstanding.
I agree with the recommendation on Le Garage in Wiscasset; but I believe they close down in January.
In Damariscotta, King Eider's Pub is also a favorite of ours.

If Cheyenne is on your itinerary, try the Albany Restaurant (www.albanycheyenne.com).
A locals' place we have enjoyed. It's right across the street from the restored train station (www.cheyennedepotmuseum.org) which is definitely worth a visit.
If you stay in Cheyenne, consider the Best Western Hitching Post Inn.

Tucson's Winners
For a great steak, try the filet mignon at El Corral - www.elcorraltucson.com - on River Road in the north part of town. It's a great meal in a comfortable old building atmosphere, and amazingly still priced at $12. You might consider getting there early, since they tend to get full.

Whole Foods is one of the outlets for Wolfe Neck Farms beef which is raised in Maine. Check out their site at www.wolfenecks.com. Wolfe Neck Beef is a great product which is also available at most Hannaford Markets and the Bow Street Market in Freeport.

Great Place. We stop here whenever we can. Chicken Pot Pie has been featured on one of the food channel shows. Bangers and Mashed and Shepherds Pie are the staples that we usually enjoy.

New England trip look for cool places to eat
You might consider Widow Fletcher's Tavern on Route 1 in the center of Hampton, New Hampshire (www.widowfletcherstavern.com). Great tavern atmosphere with classic Pub Fare - Shepherd's Pie, Bangers & Mashed, etc; and a Chicken Pot Pie that has been featured on one of the national cable TV shows. We have never been disappointed. The booth seats overlooking the sidewalk add to the pub atmosphere.
Heading North on the Interstate, take the first exit in New Hampshire, go right to the intersection of Rte 1, go left and just follow it north for a few of miles. Widow Fletcher's will be on your right, in the center of town.

I agree with dpan - Broad Arrow is a great tavern and the Harraseeket in South Freeport is right on the harbor and has good seafood. I've heard of a couple of good German restaurants in Brunswick (next town north), but haven't had an opportunity to try them.

Providence's Shaw closing and other terrible supermarkets
The Belmont Markets in Wakefield and Narragansett are the expanded Belmont Fruit you remember - still owned and managed by the Siravo Family - really nice folks. They now carry alll you mention plus a whole lot more. If you haven't been, you need to go.

A Road Trip From LA to Durango - Where to Eat?
La Posada is a must. The Turquoise Room at La Posada, offering Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, is rated as one of the best restaurants in Arizona. Just a treat to be there. Spend a few minutes walking the grounds and enjoying the trains.
In Navajo Land, we have always enjoyed having Navajo Fry Bread with honey and powdered sugar. You can find it sold by Natives in Kayenta, just before you head North on 163, and in Monumant Valley, as well as many other areas. Great treat, hard to beat. Depending on hunger level, one serving can be enough for two folks.
I've also heard good things about the San Juan Inn in Mexican Hat, but haven't been there.
