I was there when the groupon came out and it is still horrible. I'd say it's even worse than ever. the food was ridiculously salty. It was almost to the point of being inedible. The prices were completely not justified by the product. Also, the staff just doesn't care anymore. Someone on Yelp had said that they were like snails on valium and I think that pretty much sums it up. The mixed drinks are abysmal now too. I'm just hoping that they finally sell the place to someone with standards.

August Openings and Closings

I looked up Wisteria's health inspection record and it looks like they abandoned the place and no one could find the owners as of 8/20. They left all the food there to rot and draw in nasty critters.

Nadeau review of Sichuan Gourmet

I couldn't agree more w/ lipoff. You can't really apply the same rules to low cost, ethnic restaurants. I'm pretty sure Pepin was using his egg test in $25 per entree and up places. If I'm paying boat loads of money at a restaurant, then yeah, everything on the menu better be amazing. These are trained, high paid chefs. Ethnic joints are usually places opened by families with non-CIA trained cooks that are trying to produce dishes that they miss from home and want to share with Americans. I wish that they didn't feel the need to make giant menus with bad Americanized versions of their cuisine but, alas, they all do this. Most of us have learned how to navigate their menus because it's been like this as long as I can remember. Its not just SG. If I go to a sushi place I usually stay away from their kitchen entrees. If I go to a Korean place that serves sushi, I stay away from the sushi. All this changes when the price point starts going up. I guess what I'm saying is that I agree with the 4 stars for SG because I would never even think of ordering the Americanized stuff but at the same time I understand that to the uninitiated, average Joe that rating would be misconstrued as across the board praise.

Is Eastern Standard's Food Suffering?

The food still isn't worth the money. I've given up on them and I only go to ESK for drinks occasionally. Even those have become spotty. I think this place suffers from rich people who don't know what good food tastes like but equate high prices with quality. Any entree over $20 better blow my mind or have been locally sourced and certified "green" to be worth it.

Any Whole Foods better?

River St. is my favorite. It's huge and all the prepared food is really good. I live by the Brighton one and while the staff is nice, the prepared foods there are not very good. Even their bread usually sucks. I'm not sure why management hasn't corrected this. I wish they'd have the River St. people come in and fix this location.

Fish Market Allston - Nice Surprise

This has become my new favorite sushi place. I avoided it for a bit because I'm never keen on sushi in Allston but I saw a lot of good reviews on yelp for it and the rest is history. The guys are actually ex-Oishii chefs. Next time you go just BYOB. I kind of like not having to pay for marked up alcohol cause that means I can spend more on fancier sushi items. They do specials from Japan like uni. I'm not sure if those specials are just Fri and Sat or if they do them during the week as well.

Peking Duck -- Educate me please!

I really liked the Peking duck at King Fung in Brookline. The owners of this King Fung are not the same people as the Chinatown one. They sold the Chinatown location and moved to Brookline. You have to order the duck in advance and they serve all 3 courses. I thought everything was really good, especially the stir fried course. The only bad thing is that this place is set up as a typical take out joint and they don't serve alcohol. Definitely not a romantic dinner type place but honestly, the best Chinese food always comes out of the sketchiest places.
