Lacking a "go-to" restaurant

I would favor Rendezvous. Introduce yourselves to Steve (he's always there). I promise he will remember you.

Latest word on Giulia?

My wife and have been put off regularly by the too big helpings of food at most restaurants. If we order entrees we end up taking half of them home. We've started ordering two appetizers, which is enough food for us at a sitting.

Do you ever wonder why we are the nation that leads the world in obesity? Could it be that we eat too much?

The portions at Guilia are the right size if you want to have a full meal, which is greatly to be preferred over a doggie bag or having to choose from the appetizer menu.

a welcome new neighborhood place in cambridge

I agree with spikemom; a foursome had an outstanding meal last week. Alas, there were not many customers; it ain't a great location as Casablanca was.

Pine nuts [moved from the Greater Boston Area board]

I was given a couple of pounds of unshelled pine nuts gathered in Colorado. How do I shell them and is it worth it? One web site offering unshelled pine nuts suggests that they make excellent bird food!

Delicious dinner in allston, Brighton, Newton or Cambridge??? Suggestions?

Bondir (Broadway in Cambridge) is superb. Feels French but supplies are local; I had shad roe that was out of this world. Very small dining room: make reservation.

Great meal at Rendezvous

Just to let you all know, Steve hosted a $25 a person lunch to celebrate his fine year anniversary. The entire cost of the meal, including tips, went to Food for Free, a Cambridge non-profit that "gleans" produce from local markets and delivers them to local food pantries. I'm on the board of Food for Free. I also want you to know that in 2010 we expect to deliver over 1 million pounds of food with a budget of $265,000

Any authentic Korean around here?

Seoul Food, a tiny Mom and Pop on Mass Ave in Cambridge, serves what Koreans eat at home with very reasonable prices.

Any suggestions for an inexpensive pasta maker?

I made my own pasta for many years until I discovered Dave's pasta on College Ave in Somerville. You can't do better at home and the price is right. They roll and cut for you on the spot.

February 2010 Openings and Closings

The bar and the restaurant are indeed closed. A regular told me that it will reopen as a "natural food" restaurant. What a pitty.
