Health Food store not far off 85 in Spartanburg?

That might be tough. You might try Belue Farms, they do carry raw cow's milk, not sure about goat.

Dinner in Greenville, SC

BTW, the Thai place at 14 and Pelham that JB referred to is Sweet Basil, very good, as is Bangkok Thai on the other side of 85 further down Pelham.

I also would consider Mekong on Wade Hampton and Saigon Fast Food on N. Pleasantburg for Pho/Vietnamese.

Thai Taste - Spartanburg - Never Again

I live in Spartanburg but have an office in Greenville, so I've been to about every Thai place in the two cities. Sadly, it is true that Spartanburg is really lacking in good restaurants. Of the Thai places, Lime Leaf and Bangkok Thai are passable. My favorites are in Greenville, Thai Restaurant on Augusta (been there for years), and Bangkok Thai on Pelham.

Coffee along I-85?

There is a good one called Bella Latte off exit #63 on I-85 in SC. If you are going north, get off exit and turn left toward Duncan. Drive-thru only, but great coffee.

McCrady's or 39 Rue De Jean?

I've eaten at Rue several times and have always been satisfied with what I ordered. However, if you plan to walk there, McCrady's is closer, and the food is outstanding, but expensive. Have fun.

Hilton Head/Blufton Roadside eats - I'm talkin' fried local fish & shrimp?

Yes Lynn, I stand corrected. I had three different tacos, cabrito, carne asada, and chorizo. Great homemade corn tortillas and good salsas. They also had a lunch buffet going on. I was the only gringo in there, which I took for a good sign. I was looking for a place and punched in mexican in my GPS. Sometimes that doesn't work out, but this time it did.

I ate there when it was at their old location off Stallings . Good solid seafood, but haven't been to the new place.

Hilton Head/Blufton Roadside eats - I'm talkin' fried local fish & shrimp?

Just got back from HHI this weekend. Went to RF&CB on Monday night. Went fairly early with a group of 7, didn't have to wait to long. Food was a good as ever. I had the fried soft shell, with some collards. Wish I had some now. Other people had shrimp, and they all enjoyed them.

Also went to One Hot Mama's for the first time. Ribs were just okay, but brisket was tasty.

Had lunch at an authentic mexican place, Taqueria el Porto, off Mathews Court. Excellent!

Anything decent in the Lake Lure (NC) area?

I love Purple Onion!!! My father and I have reserved seats at the bar for the Coon Dog event every summer! : ) Good food and great surroundings. Glad to hear about Giardini's, will have to try on our next trip up to the lake.

Anything decent in the Lake Lure (NC) area?

We've had a house on the lake for 7 years, and the dining options are limited. I've like Point of View at times, but it can be hit or miss. Everything thing elso (La Strada, Larkins, etc.) is mediocre at best. I can only guess that there is not enough year-round business to keep a great place going. Haven't been to the Lake Lure Smokehouse yet(old Margaritaville location), but there prices are decent for BBQ. This is a little farther away, but I've heard good things about Giardini's in Columbus, but I haven't been.

Greenville, SC, dining scene

Smokin Stokes is a bbq place on Augusta. Used to be pretty good, but the original owners sold out I believe. Nothing special now, IMO. Supposed to be famous for their Cheerwine bbq sauce......

Husk or McCrady's?

Thanks for the rec on Burbage's. Going back there to move my daughter into a new house next week, so I'll check it out. And she loves my pimento cheese, so it might be a nice surprise for her. And I love Zapp's(think spicy creole tomato)!

Had lunch at Cru on Saturday. That was great also. Really enjoyed the farmers market on the square as well. Had some amazing cheese from a vendor there.

Husk or McCrady's?

Oh man! Just got back from spending a couple days with my daughter in Charleston, and we had our first dinner at FIG. The coddled egg, trotters, and ricotta gnocchi made the dinner! Our entrees of pork shoulder and wagyu steak were outstanding also, but next time we'll just order all the apps for our dinner. Best meal I've had in a long time.

Olive oil and vinegar in Greenville,SC

Fellow CH'ers, finally went to Palmetto Olive Oil Company at 2247 Augusta in Greenville (www.palmettooliveoilco.com) this week. Used one of those online deals, paid $10 for $20 worth of goods. Picked up some great robust EVOO and some terrific Fig Balsamic Vinegar. You can taste to see what you like. They have the oils, both flavored and unflavored, and flavored vinegars in containers, and pour into 3 different size bottles, seal and label it for you. Made a vinegarette last night with some heirloom tomatoes and goat cheese. A flavor explosion! Prices range from $10.95 for a 200ml bottle up to $30.95 for a 750ml bottle, with some gourmet flavors(think whit tuffle) for $38.50.
Check it out.

BBQ on way from Charleston to Asheville

Well, if you decide to go the scenic route through Bat Cave, Rutherfordton, etc., there are two good places in Shelby. My personal favorite is Alston Bridge's BBQ, 620 E. Grover Street. There is also Bridges BBQ Lodge (no relation) on E. Dixon (Hwy 74) in Shelby. If you go the I-40 route, the only places I've been to were in Gastonia, Fletchers and R.O.'s. Of the two, I like Fletchers much better, but many people rec R.O.'s.

BBQ on way from Charleston to Asheville

Unfortuneatly, you're going to be hard pressed to find a decent BBQ place open on a Sunday. All the ones I know are closed. I believe Hudson's in Lexington is open on Sunday, and it's okay.

Late Dinning near Greenville,Sc Airport

I have a few options for you, although I don't know the closing times, you'll have to call.

In Duncan, of exit #63:
Demetre's-Just off 85 on left. Decent Greek place with steaks, seafood, etc. Moderate. Open till 11.
Thai Cuisine-OK Thai, but closes at 9:30, turn right off 85
El Molgajete-Acceptable Americanized Mexican, on left off 85
House of Pizza-Not the best, but not the worst, on left off 85, closes at 11

Depending on when you finally get out of GSP, you might be pushing it with the following:

Landrum-Hare and the Hound, pub food, decent beer selection. off 26 on left in town

Tryon-Side Street Pizza, Trade Street, Great Pizza, closes at 10

Columbus-Larkin's, steaks, seafood, salads, on right in columbus just off 26, closes at 10
Giardini Trattoria- Great Italian place, have their own organic gardens. We have a place at Lake Lure, and come down here often. Worth the drive. Don't know when they close, they have a website.
Hope this is a start, and there are no T-Storms Friday to delay flights!

chow worthy between Spartanburg & Atlanta?

Looks like I'll be making a few trips back and forth from S'burg to Atlanta the next few weeks, day trips only. Since I usually fly, don't know much about any decent places to stop for lunch along the way. Any recs would be greatly appreciated. I set my own schedule, so anything between Anderson and Atlanta would work for me. I've searched this board and didn't find much. Any cuisine. Thanks for your help.

Neeseā€™s Country Sausage

A few years ago when I was in the food brokerage business, I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Neese at a Food Lion food show. He seemed like a nice, down-to-earth guy. I'm glad his company and products are so well thought of.

great bbq closest to charlotte?

Don't you hate the automatic restaurant post? It's Old Hickory House, 6538 N. Tryon St. I like their 'Q and stew. Not the best, but not bad. However, expect to smell like hickory when you leave, and it will stay with you for those business meetings............. Also had decent BBQ at Bill Spoon's on South Blvd. Neither are like the chopped "outside brown" of Lexington #1 though, IMHO.

Brunch in Charleston

If you're having brunch on Sunday, I like 39 Rue de Jean on John St. I haven't had their french toast, but their duck confit and grilled corn hash is terrific!

Greer,SC Dinner Rec's

ARGH, I hate those automatic restaurant posts. The address of Sweet Basil is 8590 Pelham, Greenville. It is a couple doors down from Two Chefs. Both are in Greenville, but only 3 miles from GSP. However, the Two Chefs location at Pelham is more of a lunch place, or carry home dinner place, than a regular dinner restaurant, but it is good.
Bin 112 is fantastic, and is only about 5 miles from the airport.

I like Sweet Basil Thai at the intersection of 14 and Pelham, not too far from GSP. Also Bangok Thai at 1440 Pelham is good. I've had some friends like Coal Fired Bistro in the same area as Sweet Basil, but I've not been.

Bridge Run Eats

Danna,
We got there about noonish. I expected to wait longer also, but it wasn't bad. Maybe it was the opportunity to wait outside in the chairs provided in the nice sun that made the wait seem shorter than it really was........

Bridge Run Eats

Just got back from Cooper River Run, the volunteers and staff did a terrific job. Smoothly run, the wave start made everything much more pleasant.

Ate at Charleston's Cafe in Mt Pleasant after the race. Had a lobster quesidalla with chippers and their sweet potato biscuit. Large chunks of lobster with eggs and a spicy cream cheese spread. Great flavor combination. Even though it was crowded, and we had a group of 12, they were very accomondating and sat us fairly quickly. Good service.
Had brunch the next morning at Hominy, good as always. Stuffed french toast with country ham and pimento cheese. Again, crowded, but we were seated soon enough. My daughter lives down the block, so we go here often.

My only trouble was my legs were so sore I could barely get up from the chair!

Mike N Jeff's BBQ Greenville SC

Went for a quick takeout for the first time yesterday, and had an outstanding chopped sandwich. Good size portion for $4 with tax. Sauce was on the side. No slaw, which is what I prefer. Didn't care for the sweet, ketchup based sauce, but the sandwich didn't need it, as any good bbq shouldn't. Meat was tender, with good flavor of smoke. It's on Old Buncombe, in a type of "shack". Not a ton of parking available, but what spaces were there were full. Will be going back.
