Chunky Pam's Sweet Shop in Darien?

Thanks for the info :-) Yep it will be a small group.

Chunky Pam's Sweet Shop in Darien?

Anyone have an update on what Chunky Pams is about? Specifically would this place be appropriate to bring young kids after a movie/birthday party in Darien?

Spice Affaire - Stamford, Anyone Tried?

Just learned of its existence, embedded in the Hampton Inn.

Dinner in Utica/Clinton/Oneida area

Oops, that is too bad. I was starting to think they deserved institution status for having lasted (and apparently held up their standards) for this long, and in such a remote location.

Tough times...

Dinner in Utica/Clinton/Oneida area

Hi, I went there in the '80s and unfortunately haven't been back since, but the place to go with Parents was the Horned Dorset in Leonardsville. Not close and not cheap, but you could be assured a high quality dining experience all around.

I was surprised to learn recently that it is still there and still gets good reviews. Sorry, I might have missed your visit but for future reference...

Ramen in Stamford

Got the urge after reading your post, so sat down for some Ramen on a cool rainy day. The ramen at Kujaku is a different from ramen I've had elsewhere, but I guess ramen in general is subject to a lot of interpretation anyway (love the variation!).

At this sitting, the ramen was more delicious than last time I had it before summer. Not many toppings, but a very generous portion of pork. And the pork was delicious: tender and flavorful.

A good start to the ramen season :-)

Fairway - Stamford

I see that there is large orb in the sky, like a UFO, floating over southern Stamford. Only after reading this did it occur to me that it must have something to do with the opening.

Good Pho

Of the other 2 places in Fairfield county, one of them must be Pho Vietnam in Danbury. How does Pho Saigon compare to Pho Vietnam?

What is the third place?

Thanks!

Ethiopian in Mount Kisco?

We went here on a recent Friday and had a very nice dinner. Yes, I agree the service was attentive. It was not so brightly lit, but appropriate I think for dinnertime.

We had a variety of meat and vegetable dishes and it was quite good for the most part. Only one dish, the cooked Kitfo, was strangely spiced/flavored. The Doro Wat was right on.

BTW I'm familiar with Ethiopian cuisine having lived in East Africa, but I'm not holding Lalibela to that standard. IMO they are as good as any NYC restaurant. For the best here in the states, you have to head to the Adams-Morgan section of D.C.

Restaurant recommendations near Utica, NY

The Horned Dorset is still there and still good? Several decades ago that was the place to take visiting parents in college.

Is it true that Fairway is opening in Stamford?

Cool! Thanks for the heads-up :-)

Great Dimsum? Willing to travel between New Haven, CT and Hartsdale,NY

Aberdeen in White Plains. It is inside a Marriott hotel. Equal to Central Seafood, better service, but slightly more expensive.

I want some vietnamese food in Westchester

Agreed, the renovation at Pho Vietnam is easier on the eyes...but harder on the ears. The room is louder and has more echoes / reverberation. But the food is great!

And even though the cuisine is from a tropical or sub-tropical region, Pho and winter is a perfect match :-)

Coromandel Comes To Fairfield

Except the Coromandel in Stamford that used to be called Dakshin...it's not so good, even after the name change.

I want some vietnamese food in Westchester

Where are you in Westchester? If you are near the CT border, there is a very nice Vietnamese restaurant in Danbury called Pho Vietnam.

Jfood visits Lake Zoar Drive-In (Monroe, CT) for a burger and fries

What ?! Bb refers to himself in the third person too? ;-)

Between Albany and Middlebury, VT?

Do you mean Sirloin Saloon? Yuck!

Where to buy Sushi/Sashimi Grade Fish in Farfield County, CT

Another option (although not in FFC) is to head over to Daido in White Plains. It is a full-on Japanese market / grocer.

Large selection of sushi-grade fish. The chef from the adjacent high-end Nanase has been seen buying fish there.

Chinese lower westchester for party

Aberdeen might be better for a party. The room in back seems to serve this function. In general I like the environment and service better at Aberdeen.

Central Seafood is good for ordinary dining. Prices are a bit lower than Aberdeen, and the food a smidge better.

Danbury

We were heading back from vacation on Sat. and found ourselves in Danbury at dinnertime. So of course we went to Pho Vietnam.

They completely remodeled. No longer a hole in the wall, it looks more like a proper restaurant. Looks like there is more seating too and it is a much louder/noisier environment.

While offerings are the same, the menus were reprinted and look more professional. Prices may have inched up a bit, I think, but still very reasonable.

As usual the food was great.

Duo in Stamford?

I miss Plateau which was owned by the same people. It offered a comfortable environment and food at decent prices, good but not outstanding and adequate if not generous portions.

Oh Boy Stamford...BIG NEWS!

I was just looking forward to a new place to get great food, but didn't stop to realize the economic and community development benefits that should accrue. Will be a good thing when it happens...

Chavin, Stamford Ct

Good question! I haven't been myself as I've been completely satisfied with Fiesta for Peruvian.

But I also would be interested in hearing feedback on Chavin and how it differs from Fiesta a few doors down...

Ethiopian in Mount Kisco?

I liked the first and last sentences of the review:

"LUCKY Mount Kisco has snagged the rarest of rare in Westchester County — an Ethiopian restaurant — and it’s a honey."

"With Lalibela and the already established Persian restaurant Shiraz signaling a trend toward more culinary adventures in this county, can Afghan or Vietnamese restaurants be far behind?"

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

UPDATE: we wanted Pho this weekend, so I called ahead to Pho Vietnam in Danbury. Message on phone says out until August 6th.

They must have decided to extend their vacation. Now starting to feel the effects of deprivation. :-(

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

No worries, we'll be back. We are regulars at Pho Vietnam. I think we will call first, though as this was the second time in a few months we found them closed.

Regarding Mysore, I knew the origin of the name but my wife did not. She had the same giggle reaction.

As far as I can tell, it is a general Indian restaurant, and a decent one at that. It does not specialize in a particular region or cuisine, i.e. southern indian or veg.

great fried clams w/ bellies and onion rings in ct

I had a fried whole belly sandwich this weekend at SONO seaport. Very tasty and the clams were not small. But a bit pricey at $12 for the sandwich and $19 for the a la carte dinner.

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

The restaurant is called Mysore. It is maybe a mile up the road, just past the entrance to Federal white-collar prison. The restaurant is on the left.

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

We headed up to Danbury Saturday for lunch but Pho Vietnam was closed! They are away on vacation and sign says they will re-open on July 22nd.

What a bummer! (we ended up at the Indian place up the road, and had a fine lunch buffet in any case)

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

I can't opine which is best, having only eaten at Pho Vietnam in Danbury. But I can confirm it is very good: one of our favorite places to eat locally, full stop.

Others on this board say that Pho Saigon in Bridgeport is very good too. I have to try to make it there next time in that neck of the woods.
