ISO chinese baked tapioca pudding

Does anyone know of a place in LA that makes baked tapioca pudding with lotus seed or red bean paste filling? They are serve hot, either in little glass bowls or a large dish (if ordered for a big group).

I used to have them all the time as a kid at the restaurant where Ocean Seafood is located now (miramar?). The last time I had one was at Triumphal Palace, which is now closed. I haven't seen this at any dim sum places in LA since.

Thanks.

Where to get a champagne cake?

I ended up ordering from Jamaica's cakes a champagne cake with bavarian cream filling and fresh strawberries. Cake was moist and everything tasted very fresh. My friend even said that it's as good as she remembered from el segundo bakery. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Sushi Zo, anyone have a link to sushi zo when it first opened around 2006 or 2005

Where to get a champagne cake?

I'm not sure. I've never had that cake from el segundo bakery before. Actually, I've only heard about that bakery recently, but they were closed already.

If anyone has had it there, maybe you could describe it to me.

Where to get a champagne cake?

I'm looking to get a champagne cake with Bavarian cream or custard filling.

This is for my friend's birthday. She had mentioned before that her favorite cake is the champagne cake from El Segundo Bakery, which is now closed. I have never been there myself, so I am not exactly sure what this cake is like there.

But any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

recent visits to hunan seafood restaurant?

Was there a week ago. We ordered a couple of our favorites, had the fish head casserole and hunan ham with some veggies. The menu looks the same as before. I didn't notice new dishes. Then again, we had our minds set on the casserole and ham. Everything was great. My friend thinks it's even better than before, but maybe because it's been a long time since our last visit (pre-fire).
But most of the people were having hot pots (chinese shabu shabu), which everyone seems to be enjoying. It's similar to little sheep, with herbal and spicy broth offerings..
We plan to go back next time to try that.

Bistro of Santa Monica - anyone heard?

I'm going there with people from work today. I've never seen this restaurant mention on the board before. Has anyone been there? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Just came back from lunch today too. Definitely satiated my long craving... Two of use shared the nam sod w/ crispy rice, crispy catfish with mango salad, and the wild boar in spicy sauce. The food was great as ever..everything was the same (except the location).

east LA tonight cheap and fun?!

I think you are referring to El Tepeyac. They are known for the Manuel Special, which is a gigantic web burrito that could easily feed all 3 of you, and the chicken taquitos are great too.

I'm not sure if this helps, the cafe in RTH building serves Peet's coffee.

Good salsa & chips in San Gabriel Valley?

They have homemade chips and fresh salsa. Be warned, their "hot" salsa packs some real heat.

Sushi Gen last night - YUCK!

I've been going to Sushi Gen for over 5 years now, and I've never had a bad experience. Everything has always been consistent. I go at least 3-4 times a month. Actually, I just came back from lunch at Gen today and even had the chirashi bowl. Everything was as fresh as usual. I was also there for dinner last week (at the bar). Everything was great.

Sorry you had a bad experience. But maybe you can give them another chance. Try to sit at the bar, especially with either Toyo (middle guy/owner) or Hiro (far left).

Nice meal at Opus

Had a really nice meal at Opus last night.

we started with dips: chocolate ancho-garlic, thyme yogurt, salted cod and potato (salted cod was the best of three)

ordered the 3-course tasting menu :

- celery root puree with salmon roe (very refreshing)
- savory egg custard with almond oil and a caramelized top
-Sashimi of 3 different fishes (all very fresh; believed they were yellowtail, hamachi, and ?)
-Aji with hearts of palms and gooseberry
-Cripsy sweetbread and fois gras (a rich combination, but sooo good)

(complimentary dish because the kitchen was a bit slow last night)
-Beef short rib, cream of wheat, red wine bearnaise.

-Chocolate mousse and tapioca creme brulee

sadly no pumpkin poppers. :( I was so looking forward to them. I asked the waiter and he said that they have a pumpkin shortage, but should be getting a shipment on monday.

There was no wine pairing last night because the sommelier was not there. We just ordered by the glass.

The 3 course tasting was $30 each... it was worth every single penny and more. For quality of food, I think this place has the best deal in town.
