Easy Greek Salad

I traveled through the Pelopenese area a few years ago & had a Greek salad most nights (the only salad choice). With one exception there was never lettuce in it. I assume water is in too short a supply to grow lettuce. Tomatoes, onions, cukes, and peppers always made up the salad with a huge slice of feta (never crumbled) on top.

Enamled cast iron

I'm looking to buy my daughter an enamled cast iron dutch oven. Le Crueset is too expensive. What is your opinion of the Kitchen Aid line of pots?

Best Way to Clean a Burned Stainless Pot?

My wife destroyed the inside of a lagostina sauce pan. As a last resort for cleaning it I put a brass wire wheel in my drill and went to work. Sucess. The brass is softer than the stainless hence it doesn't scratch the stainless surface. A bit extreme but it worked.

Do Canadians Eat More Healthily Than US Americans?

We are Canadians who live 6 months a year in Florida. What I've noticed is that dairy products are considerably cheaper in the USA. Produce is cheaper in Canada vs US chain stores. We shop at small produce markets & get better selection & pricing. Publix (West Palm Beach) has almost a monopoly on groceries. Whole Foods is too expensive for most families. The biggest difference is the portion sizes in chain restaurants.

Niagara Falls _ Frugal Eats

Betty's in Chipewa (just south of Niagara on Sodom Rd). We were there yesterday for lunch. I had cabbage rolls (4), perrogis (4 very large), homemade tomato macaroni soup all for $10.95. My wife had the seniors fish (haddock) & handcut chips. It came with coleslaw and homemade pie.All for $12.99. Hard to beat

best prepared salsa?

Costco's Kirkland brand organic chunky medium heat is good. I like the idea of it being organic at a reasonable price.

Scallop Prices

I was in Costco the other day and was looking at the frozen shrimp and scallops. Scallops were $35.00 a bag. I've bought them in the last year & $20.00 sticks in mind. What happened? Is this related to the gulf oil spills? I know I was in an upscale Palm Beach Gardens restaurant & ordered scallops on pasta & they were the size of dice. I sort of get it when you see the ingredient cost. I think it would be better to take it off the menu than serve an inferior product.

Make Your Own Naan (and Decide How to Bake It)

Costco naan is the lazy way to go. Brown it in an electric frying pan set on high and you're good to go!

Balsamic Vinaigrette

I find one quarter cup of balsamic, one quarter cup of olive oil, one tablespoon of pure honey, and one rough chopped garlic clove. Put in a small jar and shake. Pull out the garlic prior to using. Delish

Niagara Falls restaurants suggestions

We went to the Syndicate for dinner this summer and I can honestly say you can do better. We were seated on the second floor and it had the ambiance of my garage. The food was mediocre at best. Service was as if the waitress was doing us a favor. The beer was ok.

Schnitzel restaurants

It's not T.O. but the Little Schnitzel House in Lindsay serves very authentic and delicious mushroom schnitzel.

Looking for Mid-range appliances

We have a Kitchen Aid built in oven & microwave that appears to be one unit. The microwave is not quite as fast as a freestanding $100.00 unit. Just a thought.

a classic man's cocktail?

In Canada a Bloody Caesar has been popular for 20 years. We taught a bartender in Hollywood Beach, Florida how to make them & they became a local hit. They MUST be made with Mott's Clamotto Juice prefferably "The Works" flavor. An Old Fashioned glass is rimmed with lemon & then celery salt. 11\2 oz. voldka over cubes & top with Motts. Add a shot of Worcestershire sauce & enjoy. The womans version gets a cellery stick garnish & a tall slim glass.
