Bell & Evans Turkeys--better than Butterball?

Last Thanksgiving morning I discovered the Butterball turkey I had bought was spoiled. This was no fault of Butterball as apparently the birds had sat out unrefrigerated for an extended period of time and the market told me quite a few had been returned. In any case, I went to another market near my apartment and the only turkeys they had that weren't frozen were Bell and Evans. I wasn't crazy about paying $2.49 a pound, more than double the price of a Butterball, but damn if it wasn't THE best turkey I've ever had. It *wasn't* the most moist bird but seriously, the flavor was significantly richer than other turkeys I've eaten .. slightly gamy (in a good way <g>). This Thanksgiving I *happily* ponied up the extra dough for a Bell and Evans.

Where are the best wings in NYC

Oh, hey Pookie.. I'm sorry.. I've never had wings at Blue Smoke, Daisy's or Fette Sau (or anything other that a great meal at any of those places). I was both writing about my favorite wings AND responding to "fooodie's" post about not particularly liking anything at Virgil's. Virgil's is my favorite wings AND BBQ place in the city. I shoulda been clear about that and/or not digressed.

The best gyros

Yeah! I work in the neighborhood and love Kwik Meals. Really outstanding food.. great bread as well! It's amazing the quality of food at rock bottom prices that you can find around the insanely touristy hood if you just poke around a bit.

Best coffee in New York City?

I third Gimmie! I'm lucky enough to live close the the Gimmie! Coffee off of Grand and Lorimer in Brooklyn and always buy my (roasted date stickered) beans there and I HAVE to have a double macchiato whenever I stop by. Their "Leftist" espresso beans are top freakin' notch and the always-pleasant staff there pulls some of the best shots I've ever had.

Just remember to tip your barrista and NO CELL PHONES at the register (that's just rude).

Best burger AND fries in Manhattan and hipster parts of Brooklyn?

Thalia on the S.E. corner of 8th Ave and 50th is my current favorite.. cooked excellently to order and comes standard with Gruyere and bacon on a lovely brioche with lettuce, tomato and onion and a ton of perfectly seasoned fries. Not cheap at around $14 before tax/tip, but phenomenal. Pretty sure If you go there for lunch on weekdays, you get a free drink as well.. the typical mimosa/bloody mary I think.

Best bargain burger for me would be Island Burger on the East side of 9th Ave near 51st, but alas, no fries there.

I'm also a big fan of Dumont's and Diner's burgers and fries, with Diner edging Dumont out a bit with their grass fed monster. If you haven't been to Diner, it's DEFINITELY worth the trip.

Where are the best wings in NYC

I second Virgil's wings.. juicy, meaty monsters with flavorful heat and the right amount of "tooth" and char. I love 'em with a side of vinegared greens and a pint of something hoppy. I work in the neighborhood and take lunch at the bar there a couple of times a month.. never been able to finish a whole order by myself! The ribs are great there as well, but a bit on the pricey side - understandable considering it's tourist hell ground zero and the rent must be nuts. Shamefully, I've never been to Dinosaur, but if I had the dough, I'd take Virgil's over Blue Smoke, Daisy's or Fette Sau (all of which I also love, btw!).
