The best dining in the Marais?

Was in Paris last week, staying on rue de Turenne. Had two very good meals at Cafe des Musees (duck one night, steak frites another), duck again at Chez Janou (with a huge bowl of chocolate mousse for dessert), excellent lamb chops for lunch at Robert et Louise. I would go to all again---and of course, L' au a Falafel for a cheap and yummy dinner.

Tried Le Gaigne for lunch on Saturday but they do not offer the set lunch menu that day. ATe there a couple of years ago but the greeting was so cold, I had no desire to try another day.....

At Cafe des Musees, asked if I could have Cotes de Rhone by the glass and the wine was delicious.

Palermo, Modica and Siracusa recs? And Rome list for review

Hi Leely2,

Just found the card for the restaurant and it is Dioniso, not Dionisus.....

Enjoy!

Palermo, Modica and Siracusa recs? And Rome list for review

Hi Leely2,

I've "seen" you on the Fodors board, right? Will be posting on Sicily soon (am in Palermo now) but did eat at La Foglia in Ortigia and it was good, not great. I had a delicious dinner at Dionisus also in Ortigia. If you get to Noto, I had a wonderful lunch there.......Cafe Sicilian was closed. Just back from Lo Scudiero near my hotel and it was good, again not great and a heftier cost than anticipated.

For Rome, check my name on the Fodors board since I posted it---did not get to Armando al Pantheon this time but did enjoy it a few years ago....

Alas, no yummy Parisian food for me in April! -- what places should I book for fall?

I feel your Paris pain---am in the exact same boat. Great apartment, great meals planned, etc.......will regroup for the fall and compare notes! Sorry you have the same situation!!

New Chefs in Paris by The NYTmes

Sitting here with reservations for L'Agrume and Jadis for next week and doubt I will get there since I was supposed to be in Stockholm now. Hopefully this exposure for L'Agrume won't hurt its quality when I finally get back to Paris!

Does Au Levain de Marais still exist?

When I was staying right near there last May, it had changed name and ownership but was still a bakery...am going again next week and would love to know the status!

Help Needed Please re:Le Bigarrade & other choices in 2 weeks

Forgot to ask, how about Les Fougeres as a replacement?

Help Needed Please re:Le Bigarrade & other choices in 2 weeks

Bigarrade is now 85E per person for the gourmand dinner that was 65E before the second star......I'm really not sure it is worth that to me......John, thanks for your comments on the choices so far. I loved La Gazzetta on my last trip so thought I would give Rino a go this time. What do you think about replacing Bigarrade with Le Epigramme....or, is ther another place you'd pop in that space (I think I would make someone very happy with my cancellation!)...
Thanks shortstop--I think I also had seen your brief comment too which raised my antennae about the choice. I am traveling with a friend who has never been to Paris so I am doing all the planning so I am especially want to have good choices.

Help Needed Please re:Le Bigarrade & other choices in 2 weeks

I've been having a lot of fun reading and revising my choices for dining in Paris from 4/20-4/27. I had gotten dinner reservations for Le Bigarrade for dinner on 4/22 but just read Meg Zimbeck's review and have some concern---price has gone up to 85E which is high for my friend and myself---and---while quite willing to splurge, what she wrote did not sound inviting!

Here is what else I have for dinners or lunches:

Chez Denise
Rech
Rino
L'Agrume
Jadis
Josephine "Chez Dumonet"
possibly Breizh Cafe and L'au Falafel---been before and are close to our apartment
possibly Cafe des Musees and Le Pamphlet which are also close

I'd really appreciate some advice. With all the fantastic choices in Paris, I'm really wondering if I should stick with Le Bigarrade or go somewhere else, especially some place that would be a compliment to the other places already reserved (L'Epigramme for example......). Loved Le Gaigne and Chez L'Ami Jean last time but would like oto try new places this trip.....thanks!

Montparnasse area recommendations- moderately priced

Parigi,

How far in advance for Josephine Chez Dumonet for lunch reservation?

Montparnasse area recommendations- moderately priced

Had an excelllent lunch at Le Ceereisaie last May and would recommend it highly. Small place, husband and wife combo that is charming as well as delicious.

Paris February report

Thanks for the report. I had been considering Chez Janou for a first night dinner but may not now. Also will be in an apartment in the Marais, went last year to Breizh Cafe and L'as du Falafel and Cafe des Musees and liked them all....and plan to return. May now do Le Pamplet for the first night. Glad you had a great time.

April in Paris Round 2 Restaurant Choices

Don't go on the 17th though since it is a Saturday and closed (also Friday nights). I'll be getting there a few days after you! Enjoy---hope it as good as it was last May.

paris in January Report - long

Good thought---I need to reconfirm so I can check then. Really looking forward to it!

Thanks for the great details. I'll be going to a few of "your" restaurants in April, including a Thursday dinner at Le Bigarrade (made res this week for third week in April). One question, they only take cash? If so, want to be prepared, obviously. Thanks---

April in Paris Round 2 Restaurant Choices

Definitely will--I appreciate all the help!

April in Paris Round 2 Restaurant Choices

ah, more decisions! Wish I had 2 weeks instead of one! Thanks---

April in Paris Round 2 Restaurant Choices

Just called and got Le Bigarrade for 4/24 dinner. It may be that L'Epigramme only does dinner so will do there for Saturday night and have Jadis for my birthday on the 26th. Hoping to fit Rech in also but may be over doing it with planning! Thanks all.

April in Paris Round 2 Restaurant Choices

I'm excited about Jadis, Souphie. Does Chez Denise not serve lunch at al??

April in Paris Round 2 Restaurant Choices

Thanks for previous suggestions and now am thinking of going with:

Le Pamphlet (first night, near apt.)
L'Epigramme lunch
Chez Denise late lunch pre-opera
Glou open Sunday
Le Bigarrrade dinner
Jadis dinner
L'Au Falafel cheap, convenient,good
Breizh Cafe

Going with a friend who has never been to Paris and am trying to get a variety of different types of moderately priced restaurants. Not sure I want to be over-commited to places but am sitting on the fence with Yam T'Cha and could be pushed over.......thanks for the help.

Paris Restaurant Choices for April/ "reasonably priced-value

Thanks for all of your suggestions---so many choices, so little time! I had "discovered" Le Gaigne because of Alexander Lobrano's review last year---he also led me to most of my choices last May. Will try and fit in as many as I can without getting overloaded and overplanned!

Paris Restaurant Choices for April/ "reasonably priced-value

Thanks John---have you been to Le Gaigne lately? I loved it last year but have read it is now overun with Americans (which I am though!). Tried La Bigarrade today and they said to call back next week......and will probably go with the 4 you listed of "my group" sorry for all the typos!

Any places in the Marais that you are especially fond of since we are staying in that location by Place des Vosges? Appreciate the help!

Paris Restaurant Choices for April/ "reasonably priced-value

Thanks Souphie---will call tomorrow and hope for the best! Maximilien--I knew that but figured one of those could be a lunch choice, standing or sitting....thx

Paris Restaurant Choices for April/ "reasonably priced-value

Celebrating a birthday week in Paris and plan to go to Jadis (open on Mondays). Last May ate at Le Gaigne, L'Ami Jean, Breizh Cafe, Cafe des Musee, La Gazzetta---all wonderful choices. Besides Jadis am looking at:

La Bigarrade
Yam Tcha
Les Fougeres
L'Vany Comptoir or Relais du Comptoir (lunch)
La Carre des Vosges (staying on rue Turenne nearby)
L'Epigramme

Can't fir them all in with other plans and don't want to commit to lunch and dinner reservations for each day. Thoughts on the above list? Thanks!!
