Super 88 Allston
Yay!!!!! Anyone want to join me in a bowl of ramen?? (I guess that would have to be a pretty big bowl....)
Super 88 Allston
This is still around-right? I'm from Virginia and in town on business--Ken's Ramen used to be a must-do for me on any Boston trip. I know it's closed now :-(
So is a trip to Super 88 still worth the T ride from downtown? Ramen is my preferred quarry
Drinking advice for upscale unstuffy food- drink-fest
Oh, I already checked the Columbia room and they're booked for March 24, which is our night.
Drinking advice for upscale unstuffy food- drink-fest
Hi all. Elyssa recommended PS7 for our night and it looks like it fits the bill perfectly. Now I'm thinking after-dinner drinks.- what would be the nicest speakeasy-type bar to hang in? It's going to be a Saturday night, so I understand about the crowd factor, Nicest place to get something better than a rail drink?
upscale - unstuffy - for food/drink-fest
Oh-UPDATE!!! The State Theater add-on is off the table. So that opens things up quite a lot. Now I'm thinking DC? Several of our party will want to stay at a hotel afterward, but the eats and sleeps don't have to be linked.
upscale - unstuffy - for food/drink-fest
Hi all
I'm taking 5 work friends out to for dinner and drinking and I'm looking for a place probably within a 10-mile radius of the State Theater in Falls Church (220 North Washington Street). We can be a bit loud, so probably wouldn't be a good fit in a hushed gastronomic temple. I'm wiling to go a bit pricey, but not a tasting menu... also one of our party is a vegetarian (dairy products OK, but no fish). The rest of are up for any other cuisine. So... relaxed, tasty, excellent bar, and vegetarian friendly...
We're heading over to the State for a show afterwards-that's why I don't want to get too far away..
Thanks as always!
Dubrovnki? Anything?
Hi-Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info here on Dubrovnik... but hubby is over there with a meeting and I promised him Chowhound tips. I guess it's a bit off-the-grid for Hounds?
cafe mami-ramen?
Hi
I get to Boston sometimes on business and Ken's was usually my first stop-but I guess it's closed now? :-(
Someone suggested that Cafe Mami was taking up the ramen dearth with some of Kens recipies. Did this pan out? Or should I take my craving to Sapporo? seems the consensus is that is the next-best thing
Also, would love some hint on the udon underground. And anything on shabu shabu... can you tell I'm a super-souper?
Thanks, as always

Sunday in Lisbon
Actually, yes, I am! I'm from Virginia-so Chez Whitey-are you going to that meeting?
Sunday in Lisbon
oh sorry-it's been a long holiday here in the US. Anyway, thanks-I will be staying at the Hotel Lisboa Plaza-and traveling to the congress center by the sea for a few days.
Thank you again!
Sunday in Lisbon
Hi all
I arrive in Lisbon at 6 am on a Sunday in 2 weeks.
I'm hoping to get an early check-in at my hotel... but I would also like to eat at some time! Are there any places you can recommend that are open on Sunday for dinner?
Also I'll be wandering around the old part of town during the day-I'm hoping to find at least some things open and a place to have coffee, pastries, lunch.... I hope everything is not closed!
and I love grilled sardines.... I hope i will be able to find some!
Thanks-as usual!

Ramen in Llittle Tokyo?
green pepper sound gross! But last night was a success. I had the plate of mixed pickes, a great cold sake, the regular ramen (w/o the extra fat...) I loved it, and it was a lot of fun to introduce my young colleague-who had never had any of this-to this new experience. He tasted the milky broth and was like "God. This is pure porky goodness" he really loved it!! So even though I only come to LA once every couple of years, I think it was a very worthwhile outing. plus, only had to wait 5 minutes! There weree 4 tables ahead of us, but we must have arrived just as a lot of tables were turning over.
Ramen in Llittle Tokyo?
oh well-I live in a town where there was a 2 hour wait to get into IHOP after it opened. So mediocre ramen will be better than no ramen. I will be easy to impress.
Also-can't recall, but do they serve sake?
Ramen in Llittle Tokyo?
BTW-I remember i got a very rick pork broth ith slices of pork in it-but I can't remember what type that was-what should we look for on te menu (I don't have very frequent ramen run-ins)
It might have been salt flavored with extra pork?
Ramen in Llittle Tokyo?
I don't know Mr Taster- were you tehre with your wife and then did we go out for pie and you all took me back to my hotel???
If so-do you want to join me and my colleagues in a bowl tonight? (a bowl of ramen, I mean.)
Ramen in Llittle Tokyo?
Hello all
I was in LA for a meeting about 5+ years ago and you all directed me to a fabulous ramen spot-I think it was in Little Tokyo-and I think it started with a D?
I'm back in town for another meeting and I would love to go back there, if it's still around and still good.
Otherwise I wowuld love to hear what my best ramen options are-I'm staying near the convention center. I can walk, cab it, or do the DASH bus.
Thanks!
Of this is a picture of me at the ramen place, if the background looks familiar.
in search of Vienna restaurant....
Oh yes, that's it, that's the one!!! I do remember Am Hof now! Thanks! He's not eaten yet, so I'm emailing this to him right now! YIPPPEEE!
in search of Vienna restaurant....
In 2009 I went to vienna and had a lovely meal at a nice little traditional beisel, tucked away ina leafy, quiet corner just off a large square-I think it was where the St Mary church is located. I beleive the beisel used to be a pretzel bakery? Anyway, my husband is in Vienna right now and I'd like to recommend this palce to him.... but I can't remember it! Thanks!!!
Graduation dinner for 10-12...Old Town or near Masonic Temple?
Hi-I'm looking for something nice (but not toooo nice $$$$-wise) and open on a Monday (who holds graduationon a MONDAY?). All cuisines considered!
In search of.... the lost retaurant of... Sian Kaan???
OK, it's been a few years since I was down there (maybe 4? 5?) but last time I went down to the Yucatan, I seem to recall reviews about a small amazing place.. was it near the entrance to Sian Kaan? Intimate, torch-lit, great food, very small, not always open.... am I hallucinating? Anyway I was shephrrding a large family trip and had toc ater to the elast common food denominator so it wasn't on the eating plan. But this time I'm alone, at a 4 day meeting in Cancun, and have acouple days to spend at Xamach Dos... I was thinking I might hit this at some point. If it still lives in this world and not just my imagination.
Çiya Sofrası
I'll be in Istanbul in about 3 weeks, in a group of 4 (or possibly more, if we can persuade others from the meeitng to join us). I've already told my friends about this place and they're up for going, but I woud love to get some detailed directions about how to get there. We would be leaving from the Hilton at Taksim Square. Can anyone help?
Barcelona - five nights & food balls ?
I was there last year with my sister and our favorite meal was at Paco Meralgo.

I volunteer to udnertake this during my upcoming visit. Anyone want to jump in the fray with me? And contrary to my silly post above, the dates are SEPT 10, 11 and 12 (Too many meetings....)
Philadelphia restaurant dishes that you dream about
HI!
Yes, I'll be in town Sept 10,11, and 12. (The October dates were booboos, juggling too many meetings at once) I live in the northern Shenadoah Valley in Va., in a really teeny town next to a small city (24,000) where the best restaurant is the Golden Corral. So I'm definitely up for some good food when I visit ya'll. At this point all I have is a 7 p.m. reservation at James for Sept. 10, but I can change to whatever fits your sked.
Wow, I really hope this works out!!!!! After seeing a re-run of Anthony Bourdain's Malaysia show (the one where he enjoys the roast suckling pig skin basted with coconut water), I'm up for some porky fun.
Philadelphia restaurant dishes that you dream about
I'll jump in. I'm going to be in town for a meeting Sept 10, 11, and 12 and I would LOOOVE to kneel at the altar of His Porkiness. Would you be available, Philly Ray?

Hi all
I'll be in Philly at a meeting Oct 9,10 and 11... and Im a soup dumpling junkie. Looks like there might be a couple options for them in town, and I was wondering where to focus my efforts?
Thanks!
Philadelphia restaurant dishes that you dream about
Did the pig-party you all were chatting about ever get settled? Because this lonely out-of-towner will be in Philly and looking for dinner Oct 9 10 and 11 - and I would love to tackle one of these babies, if I could find some willing accompiices.
Bourdain in Thailand-I'm SOOO excited!
You're a wonder Miss Needle!
As soon as I figure out where I'm staying I intend to plumb the board for a detailed eating itinerary. Too bad the majority of the trip is work. Oh well... if it wasn't for work, I'd probably never have a ticket to Bangkok..
