Are there any Peruvian-Chinese (chifa) in Tampa?

So I went to try it the other weekend. Apparently there lunch specials are only on certain days. I got this dish which I forget the name of, but was basically a choice of chicken or pork (what I got, but was maybe 8 thin slices of pork somewhat similar to char siu) in this thin, sweet red sauce (it reminds me of this dish my grandma makes but with porkchop and a thicker ketchup base sauce) with several vegetables. I have a picture but I took it on a friends iPhone and have to get it from him. It came with a bowl of rice and was $9.99 which I felt wasn't really worth it.

My friend got chicken milanesa which was pretty good (also with rice and a small house salad) for $10.99.

We got water...but they gave us bottles and charged us $1 each. If I had known they'd charged I wonder if they would've given tap water. All in all I think I'll go back there for the lunch specials and maybe get the regular dishes once I know the translation.

Holy Hog BBQ (Tampa)

I've been to Ribit and had their pulled pork sandwich. It was pretty decent, once I put sauce on the pork. Alone, it was sorta tough and chewy but it could've just been that one time.

Recommend me meat markets/delis/supermarkets (Tampa)

I had Giordanos and I could hardly eat 2 "slices". I'm definitely gonna try Cappy's deep dish. The last time I went I forgot that they didn't take credit card.

Recommend me meat markets/delis/supermarkets (Tampa)

I go to U Tampa and have been trying to find some local markets around here.

1. As far as groceries and meat/cheese, is Whole Foods or Publix Greenwise more expensive? Or are places like Fresh Market better than both?

2. For some strange reason I feel like getting meat at local markets. So far, I've been to Castellano & Pizzo, MD Oriental Market, and Oceanic. Anyone's whose gotten meat/seafood, from these places, would you recommend them for quality/price over say Publix etc? And also, do you know any other places within Tampa that sell meat?

(I plan on checking out Cacciatore & Sons on Armenia too)

Typically, I buy chicken (tenderloins, breasts, etc) and sometimes pork, but not steaks. I also buy vegetables a lot too, mainly from Oceanic and MD.

3. Can anyone recommend good Sicilian style pizza?

4. I know chains aren't always good but has anyone had steak from Sam Seltzer?

I need a weird/exotic food in the Tampa Bay Area for class

Friend rayzhou is helping: Thanks everyone for the great ideas, but the weird food has to have cultural significance as well as be weird, it has to go with a holiday or be eaten for a specific purpose. I like the brains and eggs idea best, do you know if it is eaten for a specific holiday or reason. Sorry to be so difficult, but I didn't get to choose the assignment.

Thank you and more suggestions if anyone has any, keep in mind these "weird" foods can come from "Western" countries too. I know of Oceanic.

I need a weird/exotic food in the Tampa Bay Area for class

I know someone who needs a "weird/exotic" (it CANNOT originate from the US) food for a class assignment. The food can be anything including a dairy product, vegetable, fruit, meat, processed food, candy, liquid etc.

As for a definition of a "weird/exotic" food, it has to be something most people wouldn't be familiar with (an egg roll would not count), plenty of suggestions would be great. I'm trying to find ethnic markets or food within the Tampa area but I suppose Clearwater or St. Pete would be possible too.

I'm currently looking at restaurants and know that China Yuan has stuff like deep pork fried intestines, cuttlefish, jellyfish, sea cucumber, frog, etc. Does Yummy House have the same selection? (I looked at their menu on Urbanspoon but I don't know if it's old or not)

Are there any Peruvian-Chinese (chifa) in Tampa?

Alright so I finally found the place, again, it's north of Kennedy on Armenia. The place is called Bella Fe and it's next to this (I believe) now closed convenience store/"meat market".

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp...

The address is 2412 North Armenia Ave, Tampa FL 33607

Phone # is (813) 872-0999.

Now I didn't eat there because I ran there with my roommate and we had no money on us (I was hoping they'd have a take out menu). The interior was sparse with tables, a section where I assume they sometimes do buffet, etc. I looked at the menu briefly and they had lunch specials for $5.99 (I forgot if they were at certain times, maybe 11:30-3PM) and the highest entree was I think $11.99. Since most of it was in Spanish, I didn't know what everything was even if they had some pictures.

Also, I looked at their hours and they typically open at 11AM and close at 8PM.

It's right past Palmetto and on the way a block or so south also on Armenia, is this wonderful looking gem:

I'll eat at Bella Fe some day.

Are there any Peruvian-Chinese (chifa) in Tampa?

I know of Arco-Iris even if it's more Cuban-Chinese, but I remember a place on Armenia that's I believe next to a meat shop (Cacciatore Bros maybe?). I think it had the name Bella in it but I could be wrong, it's not that far past Kennedy turning onto Armenia, a real small place that could easily be passed without noticing it.

Recommend me a seafood restaurant in the Tampa/St. Pete area

Can anyone recommend any places closer to the Tampa area? Hula Bay Club seems pretty good, any other recommendations?

Recommend me a seafood restaurant in the Tampa/St. Pete area

Oystercatchers seems nice, although it sort of feels weird going to a hotel to eat. We've also been checking out Hula Bay Club...I'm like the atmosphere. How much of a serving would you say their seafood dinner items are?

Are there any other seafood places you guys would recommend? I'm open to suggestions from St. Pete too.

Recommend me a seafood restaurant in the Tampa/St. Pete area

My friend and I were looking for a seafood restaurant in the Tampa-St. Pete area (we go to University of Tampa so around that area would be even more helpful). Our budget is around the $$ range so probably not past $30.

So far we've been looking at Crab Shack on Gandy in St. Pete and the Colonnade on Bayshore. Also, we're going more for seafood that isn't fried, so more of a grilled, broiled, etc preparation.

Any Bubble Tea Updates?

I live in Plantation and one place I know that serves bubble tea is I think it's called King's Palace on University and Sunset Strip.

Have you tried Tangerine on Kennedy in Tampa? If so, how was it?

I went there with some friends during the winter break. Two of them had I think the Lamb Koobideh which looked like a big leg of lamb in a bowl of sauce. Came with the standard rice and side vegetables (think it was lettuce, tomato, cucumber, etc).

I had something which was lamb skewers also with rice and vegetables. It didn't really have any natural flavor so I used the salt/pepper/spices on the table to season it (I never do that except with eggs).

We had complimentary servings of pita bread and hummus too. The Turkish Coffee wasn't too bad either.

Here's the review by Creative Loafing:

Here's their website:

The other poster is talking about Saleem's. I ordered their boneless chicken once and they didn't even toss it in the sauce...they just put it on top. Other than that, Saleem's has good gyro/rice/hummus combination plates.

P.S. NYC is great, I'm a Ft Lauderdale native and I always stay with my grandparents in Chinatown. There's this pizza place near Chatham Square in Chinatown called Luna Pizza which is IMO as good as New York New York Pizza here in Tampa on Howard and in Ybor.

Chinese New Year special meals/celebrations in Tampa Bay?

I'm not sure, but the only thing I can think of are the various Chinese restaurants such as China Yuan and Yummy House (I'm just assuming that they'll have something special, I don't know for sure). Oceanic Oriental Supermarket close to downtown Tampa have some Chinese New Year items for sale since I went several days ago.

Several Chinese-American groups are doing a Chinese New Year celebration at the Pasco Schools Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel, 30651 Wells Road, Wesley Chapel, FL 33544.

Admissions start at 1:15PM with the program starting at 2PM. It ends at 5:30PM and the fee for an adult non-member is $15. I don't know if they'll have food though...

Turkish food in the Tampa Bay area?

The ones I know of in the area are in Tampa.

GENGIZ KHAN RESTAURANT
Tuesday-Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Sunday 3 p.m.-10 p.m.

6102 S. MacDill Ave. Tampa, FL

is the same owner/menu as Shish Kebab and Turkish Cuisine in Town and Country which is the location I went to.

10061 West Hillsborough Avenue, TAMPA - (813) 443-5118

There's also one or two places in Ft. Lauderdale/Miami but I don't know if you'd want to travel that far.

It's not necessarily Turkish I don't think but there's this place called Tangerine on Kennedy close to downtown (right across from U Tampa) that isn't too bad.
