Best BBQ in Bergen County?
darn, i wish you posted this a day or two ago... was at the turtle back zoo with wife and the little man yesterday, and Suzy Q's looks like its only a few minutes away. next time! was gonna grab a bite at mcloones boathouse next door. looked like it had a nice outside deck overlooking the water but we were all pretty beat after the zoo and just came home.
Best BBQ in Bergen County?
all of the above! : )
actually brisket, ribs and sausage are what i like best. sides too, so yeah, i guess everything.
funny you mentioned you dont care for blue smoke, as i ate there for lunch on tuesday and thought the brisket (mix of lean and marbled) was great. Love Rub, and Dinosaur, havent been to Hill country yet and Virgils its been a while ago so i cant recall. think it was really good too. would love something of that caliber, or close, somewhere here in bergen. just dont feel like hitting the city every time for great Q. guess ill just stick w/ baileys which is pretty good imho. thought finks new joint in pearl river was good too.

still on my middle eastern kick - http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/743292
so we went here tonite on your rec. it was ok. but no falafel on the menu??? cmon. also the prices were higher than they show on the website for everything we had. probably wont be returning as we much prefer efe's in river edge or samdan in cresskill or bennies in englewood. not bad, just not worth a return trip imho.
Best BBQ in Bergen County?
heard yesterday that Jay Lippin is no longer at Blind Boar. havent had a chance to go yet unfortunately. this guy sure doesnt stay at one spot for a long time.
Best BBQ in Bergen County?
Any new Blind Boar updates? i drove by yesterday but it was in the morning and way too early for bbq. hopefully will get to try it soon. Did however have a fantastic breakfast at the northvale diner.

Favorite Italian Restaurant in Bergen County
ill agree with both Arturo's in midland park and Paisano's in rutherford.
ill add: Buon Gusto in closter,& Rocca in glen rock - il villagio on 17 in carlstadt was great but havent been there in years.
Best BBQ in Bergen County?
putrid - one of the few places I have ever got up and walked out of. cant believe they call that authentic memphis bbq. really really poor.
Best BBQ in Bergen County?
That is really disappointing to hear menton1. I have to get over there and give it a shot myself as mom lives a few towns away. Yelp had some good writeups on Blind Boar, as did Elisa Ung in the Record, - surprised to hear the ribs were tasteless, as that was Lippin's specialty (imo) at his old Backwoods bbq. As far as Bailey's goes, tried it last year from a recommendation on another bbq thread on here, and very glad I did. By the time I got up there, Fink was gone already, but I still think their bbq is great. Really tasty brisket, ribs (spare or baby back), bbq chicken, pulled pork etc. dont care much for their pulled chicken but with all the other options, thats fine. they also have a really great cornbread souffle. love their "lollipops" of bacon wrapped around smoked sausage. pretty good beer selections. upstairs has lots of tvs for all the games, and downstairs more of a restaurant dining room. Right off of 303 a few minutes past the nj border. Also have been to Finks new place in Pearl River and really liked that as well. Rockland folks are seriously spoiled with Baileys, Finks new joint Johny's Smokehouse, and I hear that also in Pearl River, the Defiant Brewery does some really nice bbq on the weekends.
Best BBQ in Bergen County?
Just read Elisa Ung's review of the Blind Boar in todays record - the new Jay Lippin BBQ spot in Norwood (formerly the Porterhouse, Jose Oreilly's, Cormacks) and she gave it 2 1/2 stars. Has anyone been there yet??? As ive said before, Bergen county NEEDS SOME GOOD Q!!! - if i didnt just go to Baileys on Saturday, i would take a ride to Norwood, but after that, and then thanksgiving, im doing a few days of salad cause my clothes are tight lol

Wyckoff - Bourbon BBQ Take 2 Review
so disappointing to hear. The area really (Bergen county) needs some solid BBQ places without having to schlep up to the Rockland places.
Homemade corned beef hash in NJ
Agree with you on both points wblorch. The tick tock is an average jersey diner, at best. we went after guy fieri stopped there on one of his shows and were not wowed in the least. The original pancake house (can only speak for fort lee) is fantastic.
Corned Beef Hash and Eggs
i 2nd this place, the original pancake house in fort lee. great spot for breakfast. the corned beef hash is great and so is their double cut bacon. and a place i cannot recommend for breakfast is the ridgewood pancake place.
Harold's New York Deli Restaurant In Edison
not sure if they are the same owner. there is also one in Parsipanny I believe too
New Yorkers coming to Montclair for Dinner Saturday night - Suggestions?
Mesob had a really nice review in the record last week, been meaning to go try it. I would also reccomend Gencarelli's cucina as one of my Montclair favorites. Please do Not waste your time coming from NYC for Cuban Petes.

what's your favorite greek place in bergen county?
finally got over to Taverna Mykonos last night. So glad we did. Everything was great, the service, the food, the ambiance. Just a great dinner out with friends. We started with the choice of 3 greek dips, each better than the next. ( a taromasalata, a feta cheese one, and and eggplant one) An appetizer order of spanikopita which was delicious, as well as an order of keftedes (greek meatballs) which were good, but would probably try a different app next time. I had the stifado for dinner (short ribs with baby onions) which was fantastic. wife had pastichio (which she said was even better than Axia's version, which she loves) and the other couple had the mykonos seafood (like a greek frute de mar) and i cant remember the fourth dish (too many greek beers). we shared a compliementary chocolate bakalava dessert with vanilla ice cream which was sensational. fresh yummy "to go" cookies greet you as you leave??? cmon, now im having a salad every day this week. so as i said the service was great, the food was amazing, and i cant wait to go back. really gives one of our favorite's, Axia in tenafly a run for its money. each have its own things i like alot, and Mykonos is closer and a little less expensive. highly recommended.

Best BBQ in Bergen County?
im not sure WarmBeer. when i stopped in a few weeks back, the waitress/hostess said that at this time, only the bar is open with a very limited bar menu. i believe they are doing some renovations and plan on opening as a new bbq place in the fall. i agree, it really is welcome news as i enjoyed Lippin's "backwoods bbq" when it shared a spot at the washington township "doghouse saloon" - never got to his westwood locale. i thought the q was better on some nites than others, but still better than anything else Bergen county had to offer, and was convenient when i didnt feel like going up to Bailey's in Blauvelt.
Best BBQ in Bergen County?
ZH, gotta disagree with you on the best wings in Bergen at that place in wood ridge. huge, yes. best, no way. im actually still trying to find the best wings in Bergen, so far ive found pretty good, but nothing wows me. the problem i have with buffalos chicken shack in Wood ridge is their wings aren't buffalo wings. they had a weird sweet/spicy creole or cajun rub/sauce and it just wasnt to my liking. i will, on your recommendation, go back and try some of their bbq. as far as pretty good wings ive found in Bergen, id say the wings at steve's sizzlin steakhouse on 17 were very good, as well the pub in Hackensack called General Pours tavern. As far as good bbq in bergen, im still looking. i agree w/ Menton below, cubbys is not great for bbq (surprisingly decent wings tho) and although its not Bergen, we recently had a very good bbq at Dave Finks new place Johnny's BBq up in Pearl River. I still think Fink's old place Bailey's is still real good (in Blauvelt NY) and better than any option in Bergen. Otherwise still searching for great wings as well as bbq in Bergen county. The Porterhouse in Northvale (formerly Jose O'reilys, Cormacks, etc) is turning into a bbq place with Jay Lippin manning the smoker (formerly of Backwoods bbq in Westwood, then Washington township) so we may actually get a good bbq place in Bergen. fingers crossed...
Cuban Pete's, Montclair
Food was good, however I much prefer Causal Havana in Hackensack or La Isla in Hoboken for my Cuban fix. Also the service was beyond horrible. Way beyond.

what's your favorite greek place in bergen county?
yeah, i figured that when i heard it was the sister restaurant of Oceanos, which is great. but this time were going out to dinner with another couple, saw the good reviews, and was looking for a somewhat comparable place to Axia (which we also love, but is not in the "mama in the kitchen" category either) to bring them. And i have tried the Greek Village, and left kinda underwhelmed. it certainly was ok, but nothing i would go out of the way for. Also felt the same way about Vasili's Taverna in Teaneck.

North Jersey Barbecue
checked out Fink's new place in Pearl River called Johnny's B-B-Q Smokehouse Grill this weekend. Started with some texas lollipops (sausage wrapped in bacon) and some wings. lollipops were amazing and the wings were pretty good. For entrees we each got 1/2 rack of ribs. I had the spare ribs and my wife had the baby back ribs. we shared both and thought both were fantastic. portions are big, prices are fair and the Q is great - as to be expected from Fink. sides left a little to be desired however. you get a choice of 2 sides w/ your entree. I had the smoked brussel sprouts and cole slaw. She had the fries and bbq beans. of the 4, the brussel sprouts were amazing, seemed like they were sliced on a mandolin and fried crisp with bacon. very vinergary. really good. the rest however, were not. the slaw could have been the same slaw you get at any diner, the fries were pedestrian at best, and the beans were left untouched (watery and no flavor). besides the weak side dishes, the meals and apps were great and we will return. I was however, surprised to see no brisket options from their smoker choices. ??? almost forgot, the complimentary cornbread was delicious as well. now, the next trip over the border into rockland for bbq we must decide... bailey's or johnny's....???
