Lunch spot near Port of New Orleans

Johnny's is beside Napolean House, right? I've been by there, never eaten there. That's definitely a possibility, but how bad will traffic be at lunchtime today? Was hoping to avoid the Quarter.

Is Mike Anderson's that place in Bogalusa? My brother has talked about it.

Lunch spot near Port of New Orleans

I'm getting on a cruise ship in the port of new Orleans today, and I'm looking for suggestions on a quick lunch spot nearby. Would love a good debris-style roast beef poboy. Maybe Mother's? I've usually tried to avoid it because it is touristy, but today it might fit the bill. Thanks!

Which culinary books did you receive for Christmas?

Count me as another one who really liked Gumbo Tales. She describes the regional cuisine through such wonderful stories.

Vacation questions for locals...

August is a wonderful choice. The front dining room is the most beautiful I've ever dined in.

For drinks and music, go to Frenchman Street. d.b.a. and the Spotted Cat are great places to catch local, live music.

All the hotels recommended thus far are good choices.

Modern twist on local food - I would agree that Cochon is a great choice.

Beef Wellington

I made Tyler Florence's "Ultimate Beef Wellington" for 4 of us for Christmas Eve dinner. I made the mushroom duxelle, wrapped the filets in the proscuitto, and then wrapped in puff pastry - all ahead of time. The individual Wellingtons sat in the fridge for about 2 hours, then I set them out to come to room temperature about 30 minutes before I put them in the oven to bake. I thought they turned out fine. Not as good as when I made them at Valentine's Day without the hold time, but I would do it again if I had to.

Coquette looks good. Would I need reservations for a Monday night? Would really like to play this night by ear if possible...

We are staying at the Monteleone. Planning to walk to the game. We have been to Emeril's before, and I really did love it, but we are wanting to try something new. I've had two close friends say Green Goddess was great, so I kinda want to try it.

Good call on Surrey's. I've been there before, too, but had forgotten about it. Will make that our Monday morning breakfast.

Boucherie is closed Monday night, but Dante's Kitchen is open. Would I need reservations for a Monday night at Dante's Kitchen?

I think we will go to Bayona for lunch Saturday (NYD). I just called - they are open and their last seating is at 1:30. We should be able to make it into town by then.

Thanks for the po-boy recs. I think we'll try Mahoney's.

My husband and I are heading to New Orleans for four days next week, Saturday (New Years Day) through Tuesday. We live in Mississippi, and we go to New Orleans a few times a year.

Saturday late lunch - suggestions for a late lunch? I was thinking Galatoire's or Bayona, but I don't want to over-do it before dinner at Herbsaint.
Saturday dinner - we have reservations at Herbsaint, 8 PM
Sunday breakfast - Stanley (...then Saints game!)
Sunday dinner - would like to try Green Goddess... good idea? bad idea?
Monday lunch - need suggestions for a casual lunch spot on Magazine. We wanted to try Casamento's, but it is closed on Mondays. Any good po-boy recommendations?
Monday dinner - Going uptown for Papa Grows Funk at the Maple Leaf. We wanted to try Brigsten's but this is also closed on Mondays. Should we try Jacques-Imo's?
Tuesday brunch - Luke

Thanks for the help! Go Saints!
