How Do You Make Garlic Bread?

Make your own real garlic bread using this recipe:

10 cloves garlic, peeled
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon sea salt
2 eggs
1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ cup whole milk
3 Tablespoons herbs (basil, oregano, chervil, parsley, or combination) minced

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.Grease a loaf pan.

Puree the garlic, ¼ cup olive oil and salt in a processor. Add eggs and process till smooth. Sift flour and baking powder together in a small bowl.

Add one large spoonful of the flour mixture to the garlic mixture and process. Add one large spoonful of the milk to the mixture and process. Alternate flour and milk additions with processor going at all times. Pour mixture into prepared loaf pan.

In rinsed processor, whirl remaining ¼ cup of olive oil and minced herbs till blended.

Pour the herb mixture over the batter in two parallel lines running the length of the loaf pan.

With a dinner knife, zig zag the knife back and forth across the width of the loaf pan, moving from one end to the other. Remove the knife.

Bake for one hour until golden. Cool on a rack for 15 minutes.

Remove from pan and slice while warm, or cool completely.

Serve with butter, or dip in herbed olive oil. Serve with soups, salads or cheese and olive plates.

Holiday On A Budget

Hi from Toronto, Canada. My hubby & I will arrive in Fort Lauderdale on March 7/09, and will be stayng in a relative's company apartment for a week in Hallandale.

We have rented a car and will be looking for good (but reasonable) restaurants to have dinner each night.

We love all kinds of food, particularly seafood and, although i was in Cuba last year for a week, i really didn't get to experience true Cuban cooking, so throw in those places as well.

To be honest, we'd like to stay around $12.00 - $15.00 per person (or less if you know about it) per dinner, excluding any drinks we may have.

We're interested in food in Fort Lauderdale, in between, and into Miami.

Thanks for all help offered.

Cooking Haggis

Thanks for your responses.

This is not Haggis in a can - this is the real McCoy. I was thinking about putting it in the crockpot for a few hours, but still checking suggestions on the Net.

Do i boil it, steam it or cook it in the oven? Help, please.

Does anyone have a menu for PHO 88-Gerrard?

We would like some Beef PHO with tripe in it, and forget the number on the menu. It might be #79 - can anyone confirm.

Thanks.

Dog-Friendly Dives?

I find Ontario's laws very ridgid compared to some places in the world. For instance, here in good old Toronto it's quite acceptable to feed pigeons any freaking place you please, even outside a restaurant.....UCK

As far as the poster's inquiry is concerned, Strattigners on Queen East will allow a dog outside the patio fence..they even provide a bucket of water. Have also been told that Whistlers at Broadview & Mortimer allows well behaved dogs on their patio.

But, as one poster mentioned, anywhere food is served is a "no no" for the pooches, even though the filthy pigeons are on every patio we've ever been on.

What was your favourite restaurant that went downhill after they solidified their status

We used to love Wendy's.....a great salad bar where you could heap your plate with so many healthy items.

Now look where they are....sigh

Best Turkey Dinner for 2 Under $50

We were at our local restarunt & pub last night, and noticed that they are serving Thanksgiving Turkey with all the trimmings for $10.99 per person.

Our local is Ocassions on Eastwood, which is at Coxwell & Lower Gerrard.

We would have gone there for Thanksgiving, but i already bought a chicken for today.

Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone.

Let's talk about Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Finally landed up buying a bottle of Barbera EVOO from an Italian grocery store on the Danforth. It's pricey - $23.00 for a litre, but i'm happy with the flavour. Used it on our pasta dish last night, and it was very yummy.

Let's talk about Extra Virgin Olive Oil

We presently use Carapelli, but i would like to hear your opinons on EVOO for pasta dishes, using only oil, garlic & anchovies.

Where in Toronto can i buy a good quality EVOO for the above, keeping in mind that we live in the Upper Beaches.

Please keep the oil to either Italy or Greece, and give pricing if you know it.

Thanks for any & all input.

Murphy's Law on Queen for dinner

It was a very busy night at Murphy's, particularly the main floor where they had entertainment.

We headed for the 2nd floor, which was also busy and very loud.

Anyhoo, hubby went with the roast beef, and i had the steak....both arrived luke warm, so i sent mine back for reheating. My steak was done a perfect med. rare & quite good.

Hubby's yorkshire pudding had collapsed, but he enjoyed the rest of the meal.

For dinner, I think it would be wise to go there during a week night & leave the weekends to the loud crowd.

Murphy's Law on Queen for dinner

Have been there on a few occassions for drinks & even a long-ago dinner.

Looked at their dinner menu, and was pleasantly surprised to find a 10oz steak, with ceasar salad & fries for $18.99. Also, a Sunday roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, vegetables & gravy for $15.99 should we change our minds about having steaks.

Anyone here experienced either of the above for dinner on a Sunday and, if so, how was it?

Am taking my hubby to the above a week tomorrow for his B.D. We've never been there.

Anyone tried it out? What did you order, and how was it?

Would appreciate your input.

Supermarket comparison: T&T vs. others

I live within a block of a No Frills store, but that store & Lowblaws (although better than NF) does not compare with the wonderful shopping experience i've had at T&T on Cherry Street.

Not only do they have just about everything your little heart desires, but at reasonable prices.

I shop at T&T once a week, and come home with lovely goodies for under $20.

My only complaint is that if i have to ask the floor staff a question, not too many of them speak English well or at all.

Whistler's on Broadview? Any reviews?

We haven't been there in years due to a brunch of steak & eggs turning into an ugly disaster, and no compensation from the very cold waiter.

Birthday Dinner For Two

Hubby wants to take me somewhere nice for my BD on Monday. I'm a bit of a cheapskate, but am romantic.

Can anyone suggest a reasonably nice place to go betweeen Broadview & Main with good food of any kind - we like all kinds of food.

Thanks for any suggestions offered.

Maple Leaf Foods

I was 14 years old - they thought i was 16. Here i was packing meat, sealing it, putting into the boxes & getting it ready for shipping to your store & your table.

It was awful, and i told my parents the same thing. Never buy anything that is processed thru Swifts or Canada Packers.

What the hell is the difference with Maple Leaf.

Hi, guys.

Hubby & I are getting tattoos at the above location at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, & need a place to have a bite before the ordeal.

What can you recommend that's right within a block or two of Q & S.?

Thanks for all input.
