Group dinner in French Quarter - where should we go?
I've been tasked with organizing a group dinner for 10 people in the French Quarter next week. Any suggestions on where we could/should go?
Suggestions for group dinner in Philadelphia
for price, I'm thinking $35-$50. BYOB v. bar doesn't matter (BYOB is a foreign concept to me!) Otherwise, completely flexible. We're staying near the Convention Center but don't want that to limit our choices.
Thank you!
Suggestions for group dinner in Philadelphia
I'm traveling to Philadelphia July 20-24 for work, and would love suggestions for a great restaurant. I'm getting together about 10 of my colleagues for dinner.
Thanks for any advice you can provide!
Oya at lunch time - thoughts?
Hi everyone-
My coworkers (8 of us) would like to go to Oya for lunch this week. Would it be too risky to NOT make a reservation? Do you have any experience with how busy it is during lunchtime?
Thanks for your input!
Someplace other than Old Ebbitt for dinner w/ visitors?
Whenever I have family or friends in town, I love taking them to Lauriol Plaza. The food is fantastic and it of course has a lively atmosphere. if you don't mind sitting inside, you can usually get seated pretty quickly, and it's much quieter than on one of the patios.
If you don't mind venturing outside the city, I recently had a fantastic experience at Indigo Landing of the GW Parkway, just south of DCA. The food was terrific, and there's plenty of window/outdoor seating right on the river front with great views of the city.
Good luck!
Never been to New Orleans... where should I eat?
Wow, thanks so much for your guidance. Here are the answers to some of your questions:
1.) Our group is staying all over, but I'll be at the Ritz.
2.) Something centrally located that we can walk to or take a cab to would be ideal.
3.) I'd like to go someplace that we can only go in New Orleans.
4.) I think $30-$50 person would be a good range.
5.) no major food restrictions or allergies
Does this help?
Thanks again!
OK, a couple of questions first:
1.) where are you staying?
2.) is driving a possibility, or do you (and your group) wish to walk?
3.) what sort of cuisine do you wish? Pure New Orleans, or some version thereof?
4.) is there a price range for the above cuisine?
5.) are there any folk in the group with food problems, i.e level 5 vegans, etc.?
6.) do you want "history," great food, top "happening" spots, chefs, who have been written up recently? The list will change, depending on what you really want.
There are hundreds of recs. that you are likely to get, but if you start with some sort of framework, CH folk can really hit the high notes for you. Instead of getting many dozen recs., please let everyone know what you have in mind, and the restaurants will follow.
New Orleans is a unique, food-centric city, unlike any other in the US, and unlike most in the world. However, without some criteria, no one can do more than list favs., that might be across town, or not offer what you need. I could give you 20, in a heartbeat, but they may be too far, too expensive, or not what you want. Same for most here.
With a bit more info, the recs. will come pouring in, and most will be "right-on," for your party.

Downtown DC good eats at good prices?
"Eat First" in chinatown (7th and H ish) is kind of a hole in the wall, but it's cheap and yummy, and the servers are very friendly if you're friendly to them first. I also love Gordon Biersch--they have an amazing crab cobb salad. Zatinya is another fun place... it's the equivalent of Greek tapas. Go explore the are and i'm sure you'll find something great! (oh, and to second another post... Juice Joint is particularly good for breakfast. On Fridays they serve a turkey bacon and potato wrap that is to die for.) Good luck!
Never been to New Orleans... where should I eat?
I'm going to New Orleans for the first time in July. I'll be there for work and am planning an outing with about 15 other people. I'd love suggestions for a "must-try" place. Based on these threads, Nola or Emerils seems like a good stop. Any other suggestions? I'd love to get something with a fun atmosphere/view, and of course good food!
Best and Worst for DC Restaurant Week - Master LIst
I agree with most of your recommendations. However, I had a GREAT experience last year at both Mie N Yu and Indebleu. My most favorite restaurant week experience EVER was at Fahrenheit. The service was impeccable, and we were seated in the private room at the bottom of the chimney. The food was amazing.
best chicken fingers in DC?
Ok, I know this is bizzare, but the Rayburn Cafeteria on Capitol Hill has the best chicken fingers I've ever had. You can get a basket of fingers and fries for $5. Can't beat that. :)
Good luck!
SF Hound visiting DC - what do you think of my list?
Check out hotels in Crystal City (Arlington, VA). MUCH cheaper than places in D.C., and several of the hotels in the area practically sit right on top of a metro stop.
I just tried Belga Cafe (8th Street SE--Barracks Row) and it was amazing. Cheap and yummy. I had green eggs (!) and my friend had the french toast. Both were fun twists and super-tasty.
I'd do either Matchbox or Two Amys, but not both because they're pretty similar. Two Amy's has fantastic appetizers, and Matchbox has fantastic salads. I think the pizzas are both great.
You might also want to consider Indique over Rasika. The food is similar, but the prices and atmosphere at Indique are much better.
Oh, and you MUST add Lauriol Plaza to your list.
Have fun!
