Harissa? Never used, but want to , where to buy? So New Hampshire/No Mass? Ive tried in local chain super markets, and ive called Trader Joes in Tyngsboro, Ma, but have been unsuccessful in finding prepared harissa in this neck of the woods. Any help? Suggestions? iam in Nashua, wouldnt mind traveling a reasonable distance as long as where i was going had lots of other interesting "stuff" as well as the harissa. TIA! |

New bakery in Nashua....Sweeties I stopped at "Sweeties" on Wednesday, picked up some Shepards Pie for supper, a threesome of Whoopie Pies and also a piece of cranberry bread, all very good. i have also had their lentil soup, marble brownies, and pistachio cookies and pistachio cake. Ive been very happy/satisfied with everything ive gotten at "Sweeties." There is a parking lot right at, but just before the Shoppe, the bakery is on the left hand side of Kinsley St, it is a soft yellow colored building so you can watch for it after you get off of the hi way..Try it out! Iam not sure iof they have advertised much, which they certainly MUST do to stay afloat, i would hate to see another new, local business fold..it would be great if all the local "hounds" would stop by and support them, now, and of course continue to when they become more established..The owner was telling me she had made a peach coffee cake for a customer as a special order, so she must do custom stuff. |

Newburyport? Soup, salad, sandwich type place? Veggie friendly? {Not a requiement} I finally made it to Newburypot and indeed try the "Purple Onion" its what i asked for but not what i expected, if that makes any sense. the food was good, the hot stuff was hot, service was ok, but i guess i thought the "ambience" would be a little different, it was on the sterile side i would say, i didnt see the other recs on the board after having seen the Purple Onion recs, but will try some of those maybe this summer altho today was a fabulous day at the ocean and for wandering arounf Newburyport, i can only imagine the hordes of people in the summer tho, maybe i'll try for Spring! thanks again! ----- |

Groton, Littleton, Ayer, Great sandwiches, ice cream, veggie friendly ok, Sunday We ended up stopping at Johnsons for late afternoon lunches as well as ice cream, we had stayed way longer than expected at the Bonsai nursery in Littleton. we both had fish sandwiches, i had Pistachio ice cream and the OP had Hawaiian Supreme ice cream, the fish sandwiches were good, the ice cream excellent. if anyone were interested in Fried clams and that type of stuff i saw some good sized portions of those going by our table as well. |

"Impudent Oyster" In Chatham has always pleased us when we have gone there for lunch, it may be alittle more that $10.00 but not much more i dont think. ive also had lunch at "Chatham Fish and Lobster" it was good there as well. Chatham in the summer can get "pricey" so i would suggest scouting out where the locals go to eat,,"Red Nun" has been mentioned on this board in the past, that is in Chatham, i havent ever been there, but they seem to do a brisk business. "Larrys PX" on Main st Chatham is more of a local breakfast, lunch place as well. there are plenty of more expensive places to eat in Chatham, maybe you might want to splurge some lunch or dinner... |

Groton, Littleton, Ayer, Great sandwiches, ice cream, veggie friendly ok, Sunday Any great sandich/salad type place in the Groton, Littleton, Ayer area that would be open on this Sunday early afternoon? Although we are not vegetarian, veggie options are ok too..We had found a place in Acton about 6 weeks ago from a rec on this board, but will only be going as far as Littleton this time, to the Bonsai nursery open house..We like Filhos in Groton but they dont open util 4 pm on Sundays. Also, some suggestions for some great ice cream would be in order as well, we are aware of Doc Davis in Pepperell and Kimballs in Littleton, any other local spots? The food and the ice cream dont have to be at the same location... |

Manchester, Vt. take out, prepared possibly veggie friendly... I will be visiting some elder friends of mine in Manchester, Vt this summer and am thinking a take out meal may be approprite for one on the lunches or dinners while iam there..Iam kind of a "meat and potaotes" kind of a guy, although it doesnt have to be "meat and potatoes; as a matter of fact, veggies options are fine...at least for me. iam looking for good food, good value, from some sort of "down home" local place, kinda funky is ok too... From what ive heard of Manchester in the last few years, it seems like it has gotten pretty upscale. i would also be interested in any really fabulous bakerys in Manchester that might have really good breakfast pasteries etc..? Recs? Suggestions? Stay away froms? etc... |

Cape Cod - what's good (and open!) Chatham, Harwich, Orleans area I just saw your request today, where did you end up going to eat etc once you were in the, Chatham, Orleans, Harwich area? One place in Chatham that sprang to mind is the Impudent Oyster, The Squire is sort of diagonally across the street from the Oyster, ive never been to the "Squire" but have been to the "Oyster" and enjoyed it, ive seen positive recs of the "Squire" . I will be in Chatham this weekend and plan on going the "The Red Nun" which has gotten some positive recs as well, iam not sure if thats the kind of place youre looking for or not..Iam sort of a low key sort of "hound" any way, dont go to many of the more upscale places unless it is a very special occasion, i also dont drink so i cant be of any help with wines etc.. ----- Red Nun Restaurant & Bar |

Bellingham Ma, good to great sandwiches, Veggie friendly? We spent way too much time at the Bonsai garden, so we had to make a quick get away, ended up stopping At "Filhos Cucina" in Groton MA on our way back to NH. It was very good! i had the "Verdura" sauteed veggies, with cheese served on a ciabatta type bread, the OP had a salad plate, she couldnt make up her mind as to what she wanted so asked for a "spoon full" of this and that, it was a full plate with enough to take home as well. the salads were all freshly made, nice variety, we scoped out other peoples food on the way out, that all looked great as well. I would recommend "Filhos Cucina" Lots of salads, sandwiches, hot plates etc worth a stop if youre in the area, its on Main st Groton, ma. |

Bellingham Ma, good to great sandwiches, Veggie friendly? I will be in the Bellingham Ma area this coming Saturday visiting the N E Bonsai Nursery and would like some recs for a non chain, local type place, that has good/great sandwiches, salads, soups, breads, etc that is also Veggie friendly. Neither of us are actually vegetarians but we do enjoy veggie "type" sandwiches that are great tasting, and satisfying...We wouldnt mind traveling some either if there was nothing in that immediate area. thanks a lot! |

Good to great Sandwices etc Chatham Ma area shucks i wish i had made it to the "Red Nun" the weekend turned out differently food wise than i had hoped, ended going to "Chatham Lobster and Fish" for lunch good fish and chips at a good price, the rest of our meals we had at home for the most part. One thing i did find over the weekend by accident was the "Cottage St Bakery" in Orleans, i was turning around in an adjacent driveway when i spotted it, i ventured in and had a great sticky bun type pastry, plus also bought some vegetarian chilly to go. both were very good, a small out of the way looking place, but right off of 6 a in Orleans. Its worth a shot, good looking breads, deserts, etc. Good coffee too "Beanstock" which iam not familiar with, i stopped at Marians Pie Shop on my way out of town on sunady and got one their coffee buns, they are reliably good i think. The last time i was in Chatham i got baked beans from Marions pie shop which were quite good as well. I hope to be back in Chatham in a month or 6 weeks, and hope try some some of the recs! thanks again,,, |
