Caesars Steak House downtown

All is well. I think it must have been someone's idea of a 'joke' - all is well. It's still the same. Everything.

Caesars Steak House downtown

Thanks for your reply maplesugar. I too read that on their website.

I neglected to mention that we were told that the service and food were not at the same level. We're trying it for ourselves this week.

Caesars Steak House downtown

I've heard that Caesars has new owners. Do any of you know if this is true? A friend went last Friday and said all of the old waiters were gone and that the menus were plastic. Please tell me it isn't so.

Anyone go see Ripert?

Saw him, loved him. Most interesting and very sweet and funny. He and Gilchrist did a good job together. Loved them both.

Horseradish Root in YYC South

Saw it 3 days ago at Garrison Woods Safeway.

Pegasus re-open in Altadore (Calgary)

Thanks for this hsk. I've driven by a few times but will now try it out. That's a killer spot where so many restaurants have opened and closed. I hope they do alright there.

Unlimited budget: top-notch food with an oceanfront view?

Oh please consider the Post Ranch Inn. You're almost on top of the ocean. The accommodations are wonderful and the restaurant is superb. Look up the Sierra Mar restaurant and be swept away.

YYC Holy Smoke Bbq

I discovered it last month and I've been back 5 times more. The food is so tasty, love the sides as well with baked beans being my favourite so far. Great starr as well. I love the decor and the dinnerware. They serve everything on a cafeteria tray covered with butcher's paper and it's just perfect.

Wild Mushrooms in Calgary

Saw them at Mercato last Saturday. Pricy but looking good.

Ukranian foods Calgary

Try Heritage Bakery on 37th Street SW near 17th Ave. 403 686-6835

Sushi Pizza in Calgary?

I had it for the first time last week at Globefish in Marda Loop. Spectacularly good.

Good deals and good food at the Market Place at SAIT

Market Place at SAIT, main Calgary campus, 1301-16th Ave NW, John Ware building. Open Monday to Thursday 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Friday 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Many prepared dishes. Lobster bisque was so very good and it served 3 of us as a starter. There are vegetables, and a great bakery. The meat department is very good. They even have short ribs which seem to be hard to find these days.

Kona Beer in Calgary?

Here's a search site for what's available in Alberta. I think it's accurate. It seems Kona beer isn't here yet.

The Altadore (in Calgary)

We walked in last night and after being ignored for 10 minutes or so, we walked out. It was hot inside with no one there and full outside with people mostly having drinks. The appetizer menu looked good, but nothing else appealed. They definitely need to fix their bugs.

Grocery shopping in Calgary

If you decide to go into Canmore - actually you should decide to go into Canmore, please stock up with incredible goodness at Valbella Meats. http://www.valbellagourmetfoods.ca/
There's a map on their site and lists of products. Their deli is wonderful and if you have a frying pan where you're staying their ready to cook food is delicious and easy.

O-O-O Oh It's Open

David Adjey is cooking at O restaurant in Calgary, Jan 19,20&21.

O-O-O Oh It's Open

Yep it is - just found it on Facebook.
Mon - Sat: 11:00 am - 2:00 am
Sun: 11:00 am - 12:00 am

O-O-O Oh It's Open

Sorry I didn't provide more info - here's a bit from Craigslist:

O" Restaurant is creating a buzz in Marda Loop! We are a new concept in casual dining and are proud to share a menu specially crafted by chef-genius, David Adjey. Everything in this menu celebrates fresh, quality ingredients and this approach is carried through to our bar, wine and staff. If you have a fresh personality and care about delivering quality experiences to guests, come be a part of our well-paid team as a Food Runner, Host, Hostess or Server.

I'll get the exact address and phone number tomorrow. They didn't have their business cards yet, and aren't advertising until they're open for a bit to train the staff. I'll let you know.

O-O-O Oh It's Open

Saw the open sign today and we stopped in at O. It's fabulous. The decor is great, the staff is ever so friendly and professional. Didn't eat today but I'm going back tomorrow for lunch. The menu is quite perfect and the prices are excellent.

David Adjey will be there next week-end checking it out. No reservations but you can phone ahead and get your name on a wait list if necessary. Parking underground.

(real) Tourtiere in Calgary?

Had a Tortiere from Fresh last night and it was delicious.

Michael Smith stuck in Bangkok airport turmoil

Thank you Chowhound Management! You're the best. You know what I'm talking about. And good luck Michael Smith and everyone in Bangkok.

Amusing menu gaffes - what's yours? [moved from Boston board]

In Calgary in the "yellow pages" about 3 years ago advertising one of the best restaurants. It had "Valley Parking" I love that.

Turducken in Calgary?

I would try Bon Ton Meat Market, Second to None Meats. both in Calgary
or
Railway Deli & Restaurant (702 Bow Valley Trail, Canmore, 403-678-3637 or The Valbella Deli & Cafe -- which was the Griesser Spoon for a few years -- is also operating again at 104 Elk Run Boulevard (403-678-9989).

The Deli sells and ships Turducken all over the place as a special treat during the Yuletide. If your tastes run in a slightly different direction, you can also get a Turduckham, which, of course, is a ham inside a duck inside a turkey.

Certainly let your fingers do your walking on this. Most of them advertise it for the yuletide. Let us know if you can find one for Thanksgiving.

seafood in calgary

Yuck, sorry Sarah. The only thing worse than rotten potatoes is rotten fish. Hope they were contrite.

seafood in calgary

There's a good fish soup at Big Fish on Edmonton Trail. My favourite day there is Monday when oysters are 2 for one. Comfortable, good service, delicious food.

Green Onion Cakes in Calgary?

Ducking and running in case these aren't the best. They're the only ones I've had and I got them at Garrison Woods Safeway. I have a feeling I just lucked out on a 'fresh' day, but they were very very good.

Sweetgrass Opens June 14th, 9:45 am

Reports please!

JoJo Bistro in Calgary - just go.

I was just coming to the board to give a little review of JoJo's. I've been surprised that it's never mentioned because it is so very good. Everything dknight says is exactly what I'd say if I could write that well! I too love the cassoulet and the sweetbreads are wonderful. Don't everyone go at once though - I'd like to keep it a small secret too.

Just enough people so they can stay open. It's the best in Marda Loop for sure.

Last visit to Vancouver...where to eat?

Last trip to Vancouver included "C" - it was just great. Stayed at the Granville Island Hotel and took the water taxi over. Great food, great wine, great service.

and no visit to Vancouver is complete without lunch at Joe Fortes.

Birthday dinner suggestions - Calgary

I think I'm the only one I know who isn't crazy about Alloy...here's their website:
http://www.alloydining.com/dinner.php#
It's not cozy or quaint - very retro. Greek salad was brilliant but lamb, shortribs and deserts were average.
I've had great luck at Redwater Grille - either the north or south location.
