Extinction (Vancouver, megavore, pictures)

Any word of whether they will open a more casual offshoot? I'd love to get a Hokkaido whale burger (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacif...).

Toronto vs. Vancouver

Don't dismiss Japanese izakaya because of the failures of the restaurant named Izakaya on Front. Bad food isn't a hallmark of izakaya, just of that restaurant.

I wouldn't say that Caffe Artigiano is any better than Manic is, espresso-wise. But there are certainly a lot more of them around, and it's nice that the beans are locally roasted.

General Tso's Chicken

Here's one legend which puts it neither as an authentic Cantonese/Mainland dish nor as a western dish: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/04/mag...

The best I've had, too, has been at Asian Legend - it suits my Chinese palate just fine. Not too heavy handed with the batter nor with the sugar in the sauce.

As an aside, the best sweet and sour pork I've ever had was in my aunt's house on Cheung Chau (island in Hong Kong). Chunks of pork lightly dusted in flour and fried, with a sharp, vinegary, thin sauce.

Another Owl of Minerva

That place between Owl and Thai Bistro would be Oh Geul Boh Geul.

As for Owl, it's clearly a place that specializes in one thing, and one thing only: the pork bone soup. Everything else there seems to be an afterthought, including the banchan, which is why you just get big uncut strips of kimchi.

Akrams in Kensington Market gutted!

When I passed by just before in the beginning of the month, the gutting had just begun, and there was a sign on the door that said "Reopening Sept 1x" where x = 5 +/- 4 (can't remember exactly). Maybe something went wrong though, because I can't see how they'll be back up and running soon if the building is gone.

HK style milk tea

The restaurant is called Metro Square Cafe or Metro Square Restaurant or similar. It has a red sign and is I believe the westernmost store on that south section of Metro Square, facing Steeles, as oohlala pointed out. I agree that their HK-style milk tea is pretty good. The food itself is pretty unexciting HK-style tea restaurant stuff and the place feels like it is out of a TVB set.

'Shanghai Bund' - A great Shanghainese cuisine find!!

I tried phoning the number in the scanned take-out menu from Royaljelly but it didn't seem to work. Does anyone have their number?
