I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the tropical sunshine and the promise of much ocean frolicking, but hot-off-the-comal rice-flour pupusas revueltas and cafe de olla for breakfast on the way to the beach at a roadside stand in Olocuilta, El Salvador.
My current drink of choice:
Agua de tamarindo is probably my favourite summer drink. It refreshes one immediately! Plus, there is nothing, nothing, like a steaming cup of coffee on a cold winter afternoon. French press, please.
I really wish I could:
Go on a worldwide culinary adventure....forever.
My "Go-to" dinner party dish:
I love appetizers, so often I'll have a themed evening of tapas, or mezze, or antojitos, hors d'oeuvres, etc.....
My favorite comfort food:
My Oma's mushroom sauced meatballs, Mennonite cabbage borscht, still-warm freshly baked bread. Though I must admit that lately I have been craving a good mapo doufu or green curry almost as much as the meat 'n potato dishes that I grew up with.
My top 5 favorite restaurants:
Eating out? Ahh, the good ole' days....
My most tattered cookbooks:
'Thai Food'-David Thompson, Fuchsia Dunlop's 'Land of Plenty', 'Seductions of Rice' -Alford and Duguid, CI's 'The Best International Recipe'...more yet to come....
