Weekday go-to dinners

Obviously not a full meal but I enjoy this Spinach Egg Drop Soup recipe, from Food & Wine Magazine:

5 cups low sodium chicken broth
3 inch piece fresh ginger (2 inches thinly sliced, 1 inch peeled and julienned)
1 tsp white pepper
2 eggs (lightly beaten)
2 cups fresh spinach

Bring the broth to boil with sliced ginger and 1/2 tsp of the white pepper. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes, then strain out the ginger slices. Add the julienned ginger and bring back to a boil. Lower heat and stir in eggs, breaking into strands. Cook 30 seconds, then add spinach and remove from heat. Season with salt and remaining white pepper to taste.

It's fast, relatively healthy, and cheap (recipe as written shouldn't cost more than $4). If you're not a huge ginger fan, definitely cut down the amount in the recipe because it is a strong ginger flavor as written.

RJ's Kosher Beef Jerky

The Joburg Biltong is amazing. I have had the Black Pepper flavor and I have a bag of the Peri Peri flavor, just waiting for the right occasion. This stuff is nothing like the Holy Cow jerky I have had in the past; it is so much more moist. It really almost has the texture of cold roast beef, rather than the dry, leathery feel of the Holy Cow stuff. Don't get me wrong, I happen to like the dry one too, but I think Joburg is much better.

They also make a line of sausages that are great.

common names for kosher cuts of beef?

Along these same lines, I have come across some strange cuts of meat lately in a kosher supermarket.

Fillet Mignon for 23.99/lb
Surprise Steak for 26.99/lb
Cresenet Steak for 29.99/lb

Anyone know what any of those really are?

aron's kissena farms

Queenscook, they do sell bison now. I got a kick out of seeing it there after reading your post,. It was definitely not there the past few times but they had a large selection tonight, including ground, london broil, and a bunch more. I believe the company was Solomon.

Jewish Cuisine "Updated"

I recently found a few brands of kosher chipotles in adobo sauce. The one that comes to mind with the most recognizable hashgacha is Roland's which has a Star-K.

aron's kissena farms

I was there bright and early this morning at 8 o'clock. The place was a zoo! I bought a bunch of the sale stuff but didn't have time to really explore. Waited in line for about half an hour... I think the biggest problem was that not all the registers were open, plus many items were not in the scanner system. Also, the credit card machines couldn't swipe so they had to type in the numbers manually. I am sure that once things are more settled, the wait times will go down dramatically. I must say, it was really nice to have somewhere to park!
