If you had $500 to spend on one meal for 2, where would it be?

THANK YOU everyone for taking the time to make a suggestion! After reading all of them and doing a lot of food stalking online I made a reservation for EMP. I'm really excited.

Both would be ideal! Problem is, we're *supposed* to be watching our funds for move. Although two amazing meals = always better than one... hmm..

Hey so tell me, what makes you prefer EMP to Alinea?

I thought about this! We just saw a Netflix special about their chef and it was fascinating. Only problem is that we'd need a dd to come with us, because it's somewhat of a celebration dinner & I know we'll be drinking.

The $500 isn't set in stone. Because we're leaving, I'm willing to pay more for something over the top... something that we can't get in St. Thomas, where we're headed. I'd love to have the same kind of experience that I had at Alinea in Chicago, but I didn't drink while I was there (huge mistake!) so the $250ish I paid for 2 doesn't compare.

Looking for suggestions- I have $500 to spend on a meal with my husband. We're leaving New York shortly so I'd like it to be as special as possible.. unique and beautiful food.

Or, should we suck it up and pay the $800 for EMP? Worth it?

Thanks everyone!

Pre-Christmas Dinner at one of the big ones

I'm getting married in 2 weeks but unfortunately won't get to spend Christmas with my husband. I want to book a big-deal dinner for us the week before, as our first holiday dinner as a married couple. I moved here recently from Chicago where the best two meals I ever had were from Schwa and Alinea. What would you choose out of the following and why?

Daniel
Per Se
Eleven Madison Park
Jean Georges

Thank you!!

Union Square Hospitality Group

I've been given a gift certificate to the Union Sq Hospitality Group and am looking for suggestions as to which restaurant I should visit. It's for $150 so the dining room at Gramercy Tavern is out- my fiance and I are getting married in a few months and money is tight; ideally we'd like our total bill to stay at or below $150 and just pay the tip out of pocket. Which is a better idea- the Tavern at Gramercy or Maialino? Or another from that group? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Does anyone know of a good spot to buy a bottle of high quality limoncello here in NYC?

Chicagoan in NYC- Ethiopian?

I recently moved to NYC from Chicago, where I lived in a neighborhood that has a huge Ethiopian population and I just fell in love with the food. Looking for suggestions of where to go here; I live in Manhattan but Brooklyn or Queens would be fine too. Thanks in advance!

Late Night Oysters?

I'll be flying into NO for 48 hours only on 10/19. Due to my job I won't be getting in until after 11pm. I'm going to no doubt be starving- any suggestions on where to have a meal that late? I would prefer oysters but anything decent will do. Staying at the W Hotel. Thank you in advance!

Searching for a no-menu place

New to Manhattan from Chicago. Taking a friend to dinner and he has requested "an authenthic Italian spot, as in where they might not even have a printed menu". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Scotch Selection

I am looking for suggestions for dinner tomorrow night-- want a place with a decent scotch selection, where jeans & a polo would be acceptable. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Topolobampo- Help!

Thanks! Was confused b/c their website mentions dressing up, which is kind of a generic way of putting it, but then a review said it was full of tourists in khaki shorts.

What is the dress like at Topolobampo? Can we get away with nice jeans/ heels or not? Thanks!

Last minute dinner tomorrow

I need help finding a place for dinner tomorrow night. Either BYO or has a reasonably priced wine list; menu heavy on either red meat or seafood. (Not Tango Sur-- it's fabulous but was just there.) No Asian and no Italian. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Weekend Dessert

My mom will be in town this weekend, and I need a great place for dessert to celebrate her birthday after dinner. Can be anywhere in the city limits, preferably not too formal or loud. Must have a chocolate option or two. Thoughts?

One Weekend in Chicago -- The Best Picks: Help!

Best brunch- head to M Henry in Andersonville. You'll need to get there early-ish or risk waiting for a table, but it is worth it. Best brunch I've had in the city.

I'm thinking of having a small birthday dinner at Boka next week-- maybe 6 people at the most. Thoughts on if this is a good idea? Thanks in advance!

Chicagoan in NYC!

I could not agree more-- I LOVE New York pizza! I actually grew up in Pennsylvania so I am well aware of what good pizza is. Chicago deep dish is not pizza, as far as I'm concerned-- it's 3 inches of cheese and a weird cornmeal-like crust. Bring on the crispy floppy slices!!
