Thank you for all your contributions. Did not quite manage to go everywhere, but some highlights were as follows: Lung King Heen - outstanding. Fresh, fresh, fresh, well prepared and expertly executed Chinese cuisine. Exceptional quality. Highly recommended. Fantastic dim sum and roast chicken to dream about. A great dim sum lunch at Luk Yu teahouse which was very atmospheric. Good, fresh, food and hardly a tourist in sight which was a bonus... Spoon - Sunday brunch, great selection of smaller 'spoon' type portions, great wines and champagne, and you even get to go in the kitchen pastry section to choose your desserts. A wonderful, lazy, somewhat wine filled lunch (great French Chardonnay and Shiraz, carefully selected producers were apparent by the taste/quality), again highly recommended. Opia at Jia Boutique Hotel. Wonderful modern cuisine, again expertly cooked and top quality and good pairing of ingredients, though tending towards v. modern. Banana rice accompanied a wonderful red pork hock with melt in the mouth crispy skin (if that makes sense), but a pleasing combination. A little expensive but worth the splurge. Some other meals included wonderful thick noodles in a seafood broth with crabmeat in Causeway Bay, cannot recall the name, but excellent. A chicken shawarma beckoned at a tiny street place serving arabic kebabs near the mid level escalators. Also, had remarkable aged Australian rib eye at The Steakhouse at the Intercontinental on Kowloon side, with great accompaniments and v. efficient, friendly service. Highly recommended. Cannot wait to get back again... Will keep other suggestions for future visits also... |

A big thank you for all of the advice. Especially Four Seasons and Charles. Incidentally, will be staying at Jia Boutique hotel which looks as if it has a promising restaurant. If there are any further restaurant suggestions for the immediate area around the hotel, this would be great also. |

one night in sydney for solo san francisco foodie I went to Rockpool by the Rocks in Sydney (near Sydney Harbour Bridge) a few years ago and it was great. Not sure what it is like now, but then it was one of the best restaurants in Sydney, fantastic food, predominant seafood as you would expect. |

S.E. Spain, Costa Blanca, HELP - Gastronomic Suggestions Will be visiting some friends in this area in August and looking for great restaurant recommendations. The Coast areas covered include from the Mar Menor down to Alicante, including towns such as San Pedro Del Pinatar, San Javier, Pilar De La Horadada, and the whole coastline from Alicante in the North to Cartagena in the South, as well as the cities of Cartagena and Murcia. Looking for great restaurants in any of these places or nearby. Recommendations would be really appreciated as all internet research is quite lacking on this area gastronomically, unless I am looking in the wrong places.... |

Thank you Butterfly. I agree, a simple preparation is best for a quality ingredient. When I had it last year, it was I believe either grilled or lightly pan fried. It was extremely tender and for Moh's query, I would say it has a wonderful taste which is rich without being too rich, and intensity of flavour, delicious texture. I love the Iberican Jamon and Chorizo. I will try some of the other cuts and sausages as well. Thank you Butterfly for the Nunc est Bibendum suggestion. |

Help... first time going, will undoubtedly go again, but only 6 hours for the first time, as I wait for a flight. I leave the airport around 4pm and need to return there by 10pm. Where should I go to get an authentic Roman experience, enjoy some atmosphere, soak up some of Rome and of course to eat well.... suggestions appreciated. |

Foodie In Barcelona [Moved from International board] As a first introduction to Spain, I would recommend Set Portes restaurant in Barcelona. It is predominately fish, seafood, paella, but also has meat dishes. Very traditional, always busy with a great buzz including lots of Spanish, and good, fresh, very tasty food, but more simple dishes to introduce you to the cuisine. ----- |

Can someone recommend for me some fine Spanish Red wines. I am not as familiar with Spanish Red Wine and am looking for superb wines with character, a little depth, rounded and good fruit. Red wines I normally enjoy include Shiraz, Shiraz/Grenache mixes, NZ and Australia, Pinot Noirs/Burgundies - France and occasionally NZ. I really do not know any Spanish white wines. I typically tend to go for Sauvignon Blancs, or something like a Pouilly Fume/Sancerre, and would welcome suggestions. |

Madrid - Where to buy Butifarra negra o blanca & French Wine Many thanks Butterfly. Can you tell me the location of the lavinia store, since I could not work it out on the website. Can't wait to try the butiffarra again, I have tried before and I think my friend will like also. |

Thank you Butterfly, great help. I translated the Spanish to English on your link and it says the following: SECRET IBERICO. Piece with much intermuscular fat, is integrated behind paletilla and underneath the bacon. "the armpit or crosspiece" is considered the secret of more quality. A true one manjar that one undoes in the mouth FYI, I translated this on an amazing website which translates whole pieces of text: http://world.altavista.com/tr in several languages. I then looked up Paletilla and it says it is the shoulder. Ekomega, if you come across it again, try it, it was amazing. Butterfly, I look forward to trying the other cuts you mentioned. |
