Cassels Hamburgers Opening!

Hopefully it will be like the old style instead of the horrible shell of itself by the recent Korean owners.

L.A. Dish of the Month, December 2014 -- TAMALES

Bread at Banh Mi My Tho changed?

I was at BMMT today and got my usual shredded chicken. First thing I noticed was that the sandwich appeared smaller than normal and cost $3.27 with tax. I too thought the bread was different but I liked it. It wasn't so crusty as to cut the top of my mouth. I also didn't peel as much of the excess bread off like I normally do. The chicken was a little fattier than normal but just as flavorful. Still a very good baguette and close to work.

SGV Chinese Top 10

Yup, the San Gabriel Valley is probably the MOST discussed and dissected region/type of food on Chowhound. Pastrami is the 2nd most popular topic on Chow.

Happy eating sku!

China Red for dinner?

Haha, bless your mom and good luck in this bill war. Old habits die hard. Slip a piece of paper with a nice note to the server in the bill and tell her it's an amazing coupon.

China Red for dinner?

I have to ask. Does she pay for the meals or do you? My dad is the exact same way and still gives me crap about the time I had the gall to order a $10 glass of wine during my sister's birthday. Solution? My sister and I pay for meals now and we order appetizers and drinks. Now he doesn't complain.... as much

How is Urban Hiatus? I love about a half mile from that place and drive by all the time.

Who makes good BBQ Baked Beans?

I prefer savory baked beans to the super sweet kind. Anyone have suggestions?

2014 Sammy Awards - Who's In?

I'm a huge King Torta fan, but they recently changed their bread. Instead of the soft bread, they now use some chewy bread that is burnt on top so it cuts the top of your mouth as you chew forever. Very disappointing.

Bow and Truss – Wanted to love it, but ended up liking it. (North Hollywood)

That was my reaction too. I was going try bow and truss but not after watching him on the show. Must suck to work for him

Unusual and interesting ethnic markets in the Greater Los Angeles Area?

Fully agreed, westside gal. LA is pretty pitiful Italian-wise compared to the Bay Area. I miss Liguiria Bakery and the Focaccia bread

Bachi Burger - Sawtelle

Good for you. For many people service is just as important as the food. I'm in that category.

October is also harvest time for grapes, which make delicious WINE, which is a very large industry in California. Oktoberfest is a German tradition, not California.

PS, I love beer too.

I was going to nominate Kabobs, but LATIN AMERICAN SEAFOOD is more interesting to me.

Good takeout/fast food Koreatown/Mid-Wilshire

Hopefully you were able to find a table to sit at. Yikes, that sounds good but messy. I was going to suggest Papa Cristos at Pico and Normandie.

Bean & Cheese Burrito, update

Total nube question about Lucy's menu. They offer a bean and cheese burrito and also a Bean and Green and a Bean and Red.

What are the green and red? Salsas? Does that mean there's no cheese? Totally confused here.

L.A. Dish of the Month, September 2014: OFFAL

Offal overall is not my thing either. However, I just came back from France and loaded up on Foie gras. Yum! Pity California banned the dish.

Overwhelmed -should I worry about making more reservations Paris 7/23-29

Hmm, I have a Wells Fargo Visa card. AHA64, I don't wish to hijack your thread. I can start a thread on this subject later. However, I did find the responses to your original question very informative. You've got a very nice plan, which we will do some research on. Our trip is at the end of August to a few days in September.

Overwhelmed -should I worry about making more reservations Paris 7/23-29

Hello Parisian hounds, I have a somewhat related question about holding reservations with credit cards and didn't want to start a thread on this issue. I, an American, do not have a chip and PIN card as is the norm in Europe. Do most Parisians accept our medieval swipe cards or am I stuck 1) carrying loads of cash/traveller checks or 2) acquiring a chip and PIN card?

Thank you in advance.

NYC/LA pastrami battle - the three kings

My gf and I went to Langers today about an hour before they closed. As we were happily munching on our #19s, we were discussing this thread. How can posters properly compare the three places (plus Brents) without doing a proper taste test, i.e., at the same time. One could reasonably compare a Brents Vs Langers by getting both sandwiches on the same day by two different people and meeting someplace to comparison test. However, a comparison versus places in New York is relying on memory instead of what's in front of you. I don't know about you, but my experiences can be influenced by a number of factors including which side of the bed I woke up on or outside factors like service.

That said, this thread has been very enjoyable to read, and I admire your quest for the top pastrami!

Side note: I would volunteer for said taste tests. ;-)
