Why does baguette s*ck in this country...

Thanks for the rec, happybaker. I drive by there all the time, but they're closed by the time I go through the area.

Watch out, CanadaGirl. The OP might extend his/her complaint to Canada as well! He/She has amazing standards that we peasants can't begin to understand, don't you know.

Plus baguettes and bread loaves are ridiculously expensive here.... for bread.

Best Calamari- Mid City?

Ah, I've always wanted to go to chi Spacca. Thanks for the rec.

The Greek place on Larchmont sounds good as well.

Best Calamari- Mid City?

Hi,

We're looking for the decent to best calamari around either to go or eat in. We would preferably like to stay in the Mid-City/ Miracle Mile area. Century City or Culver would be ok as well. The other threads were over 4 years old, so I thought an update might be in order.

Thanks!

I don't think there are in and out privileges at the parking garage. You pay $15 to park and you wouldn't want to repay that fee. If there are no in and out privileges, then I'd stay in the park and then find a nice place afterwards like Joe's (not really walking distance).

ISO - Best Rotisserie Chicken???

Exactly. Plus there's no parking at the one on Western and they typically have less than an A rating.

Berkeley hounds relocating to LA, where to live/shop/eat?

As a former Berkeley resident, I long gave up on trying to find something even remotely close to the Berkeley Bowl and I've been in LA for 12 years now. I work in Alhambra and will check out Urban Radish on the way home.

I just only saw this thread. I would have loved to have joined but will be in Santa Barbara. Thanks for organizing this and maybe next time I'll get to meet up with my e-friends.

DineLA at Craft

Excellent report, Oracle. We couldn't get our act together due to a move. By the time we got around to looking at the Dine LA, there were no decent times available at Craft (5 or 10pm!). We go to Craft every year for Dine LA and love the attention to detail, the extras, the drinks, and the food of course.

I love their granola and wish they would post the recipe.

Chowhound or Cuisinepoodle?

I'm mostly a lurker and like to find new places. We certainly can't afford to go to places like Urasawa, but it's nice knowing where the finest places are. We're more interested in the places for the $10-20 range for dinner and around $10 or less for lunches. I think there are plenty of choices here on Chowhound. I use Yelp to find some places and then I'll crosscheck on Chow for a more discerning critique.

Guisados Coming to Downtown LA

I like the part about 50 seats and beer. The East LA site is just too small.

Too bad there are no county fairs on right now. That's where all the interesting fried foods are.

New Years Eve on the Westside - 4 women and me

Fully agreed. Not everyone is an expert on certain locales. Also, please give the full name of the places and city. It's hard to look up places with only partial info.

Top *pleasant* surprises of 2013?

+1 on Top Round. The beef is nice and tender and the sea salt bun gives it a nice combo. The frozen custard shakes are delicious. Not a big fan of the fries, but the overall value is very good for a non-chain fast food joint. Now that I'm moving close to the place I'll stop by there for a quick meal.

Oh, I was pleasantly surprised by La Barca's on Vermont by U$C. It's been there forever, but the food was fantastic. We quite liked the beef flautas and also the pork adobado.

According to the website the London is $145 per person for the 8:30-midnight seating. Yikes.

Big fan of Aattari Sandwich. Too bad the place isn't bigger. I've gone and had to sit on a street curb a couple times it was so crowded.

Any chow worthy eats near Glendale galleria?

Second Elena's. The value is fantastic and the kabobs are amazing. The only concern is that it's basically an outdoor place with plastic covering. It may be a little cold in winter, but during the day it should be fine.

Tamales around the SVF, Mission hills area

Carillos is very good with homemade masa. They have weird hours though. There are two more places nearby to check out as well which are quite good.

Gourmet Tamale Factory on Maclay in San Fernando

There's also Me Gusta Gourmet Tamale, which is a tamale stand on Van Nuys Blvd near Laurel Canyon.

Agree that the side coleslaw or potato salad is just way too skimpy.
